Speeding likely cause of Diogo Jota car crash: police
An ongoing investigation is examining "the marks left by one of the vehicle's wheels... everything points to a possible excessive speed beyond the road's speed limit", the Civil Guard said.
"All the tests conducted so far indicate that the driver of the vehicle was Diogo Jota," it added.
The force had previously said a tyre had probably blown out while the vehicle was overtaking, causing it to crash and burst into flames in the northwestern province of Zamora.
Just hours before the accident, Jota had posted a video of his June 22 wedding to partner Rute Cardoso, with whom he had three children.
The deaths sparked an outpouring of grief, particularly in the brothers' native Portugal and at Jota's Premier League club Liverpool.
Political leaders as well as star players from Portugal and Liverpool joined family and friends at the funeral on Saturday in the Porto suburb of Gondomar.
Following spells at Atletico Madrid, Porto and Wolverhampton Wanderers, Jota became a fan favourite at Liverpool after joining the Premier League giants in 2020.
He netted 65 times for the Reds in five seasons, lifting the League Cup and FA Cup in 2021/22 and helping them win a record-equalling 20th English league title last season.
The striker also earned 49 caps for Portugal and was part of the team that won this year's UEFA Nations League.

However James made up for her miss with a wonderful individual goal, collecting Russo's pass before shimmying inside and unleashing an unstoppable left-footed shot past Daphne van Domselaar. The only criticism that could have been levelled at England is that they should have been further ahead early on after creating a clutch of opportunities against the strangely below-par opposition. But Stanway made the scoreline reflect the balance of play in stoppage time at the end of the first half by drilling home from distance after the Dutch defence again failed to deal with a high ball. Unlucky Russo had a neat headed goal ruled out for Leah Williamson straying offside almost immediately after the break, but James was on hand to seal the points with half an hour left to play, rolling home on the rebound after superb play down the right flank from Lauren Hemp. Seven minutes later Toone completed the rout by drilling home low with her left foot and giving England the heavy win which boosted their hopes of reaching the next round.

Ex-Real Madrid coach Ancelotti gets year's jail for tax fraud
Prosecutors alleged the Italian created a system of shell companies to hide extra earnings during his first spell as Real Madrid manager in 2014 and 2015, notably through image rights. They said the 66-year-old, one of the most successful managers in football history, failed to pay more than one million euros due to undeclared earnings in those years, seeking four years and nine months' jail against him. Ancelotti denied having intentionally committed fraud at his highly publicised trial in April, saying he never realised a scheme allowing him to collect some of his salary in image rights would see him pay less tax. A Madrid court announced it had convicted Ancelotti for "an offence against the treasury... to the punishment of one year in prison" and a fine of 386,361 euros ($452,821). Ancelotti showed a "conscious desire to evade the payment of taxes on the income obtained from the exploitation of his image rights, through artificial mechanisms", the court wrote in a ruling. "The actions are blatantly fraudulent and the structures used do not conform to a real economic logic. The deliberate concealment of income through opaque structures and entities in tax havens proves a fraudulent intent," it added. But the former Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain boss, who no longer lives in Spain, will not serve jail time because the sentence is less than two years and he has no criminal record. The court cleared Ancelotti of the fraud allegation for the 2015 tax year, saying it could not conclude "beyond reasonable doubt" that his fiscal residence for that year was in Spain. He joins a list of football greats who have fallen afoul of Spain's crackdown on stars who have not paid their due. Former Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho received a one-year suspended sentence after pleading guilty to tax fraud in 2019. Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo were both found guilty of tax evasion and received prison sentences that were waived for being first-time offenders. Ancelotti's glittering career has seen him win a record five Champions League titles as a manager and lift the European Cup twice with AC Milan as a player.

Lyon stave off relegation after successful appeal
Last month, Lyon were relegated to the second-tier Ligue 2 by French football's financial watchdog, who had placed the club under budgetary restrictions in November. American businesswoman Michele Kang then took over as club president from compatriot John Textor. The FFF said Lyon would have to cut its wage bill and transfer budget for the upcoming campaign. "Lyon would like to thank the appeal commission after it recognised the ambition of the new management of the club," the club said in a statement. "Today's decision constitutes the first step of re-establishing trust in Lyon." Two weeks ago, Textor said he would take a step back from the day-to-day running of the club. The second-largest shareholder at the club behind Textor, Kang was already president of the Lyon women's team. Lyon finished sixth in Ligue 1 last season to qualify for the Europa League and will be allowed to play in that competition after the successful appeal, but thed had already agreed to pay UEFA a fine. Textor took over as Lyon's majority owner in December 2022 from long-standing boss Jean-Michel Aulas, who had overseen unprecedented success at the French outfit. Lyon won seven consecutive French titles between 2002 and 2008, under Aulas. Textor, 59, also holds stakes in Brazilian side Botafoga and Belgian club Molenbeek.
