Now, he has moved to Anfield, becoming assistant coach to his fellow countryman, Slot, at the current Premier League champions.
A Liverpool statement read: "Former Netherlands international and captain Giovanni van Bronckhorst joins the Premier League champions in the position of assistant coach, subject to receiving a visa.
"Van Bronckhorst won a host of major honours during a playing career that included spells with Feyenoord, Glasgow Rangers, Arsenal and Barcelona, and since retiring as a player in 2010 after reaching the World Cup final that year with his country, he has moved into the dugout, starting out in an assistant role at Feyenoord.
"He advanced to take charge of the Eredivisie club himself from 2015 to 2019, and his time at the helm of Feyenoord featured a Dutch league title in 2016-17 and two KNVB Beker successes.
"Van Bronckhorst subsequently took the reins at Guangzhou R&F in China, then Rangers – who he led to a Scottish Cup victory and the Europa League final in 2021-22 – and most recently Besiktas, departing the Turkish outfit in late 2024."

Ex-England and Premier League star ‘arrested in Stansted Airport in front of stunned passengers'

A former Premier League and England footballer was arrested at an airport in front of 'stunned passengers', according to a report. The star was held after disembarking a budget airline after landing at Stansted Airport from Europe earlier this year, a police source said. Essex Police told The Independent that a 36-year-old man was arrested on 27 April on suspicion of breaching a non-molestation court order. 'You can imagine it was a huge surprise for other passengers at the airport when they saw him being spoken to by police officers at passport control,' the source told The Sun. 'He had already been recognised by lots of people on the plane journey so it wasn't as if he was keeping a low profile.' The source said he played for England and in the Premier League so attracted attention. After an issue was flagged to Border Force officers at passport control, police were called and the man was led away for questioning, the source said. 'It caused quite a kerfuffle as there were lots of other passengers around in the arrivals area of Stansted where he was arrested,' they added. A spokesperson for Essex Police said: 'A 36 year-old man was arrested at Stansted Airport on 27 April on suspicion of breaching a non-molestation order. 'He was released on bail.'

Scots man who walked to Munich for Euros completes new challenge for men's suicide charity

Craig Ferguson raised £77,800 for charity last year after walking from Scotland all the way to Munich for the Euros. A young Scots man who famously walked to Munich for the Euros last year to raise money for a men's mental health charity has now completed a new challenge. Craig Ferguson, 22, made headlines last summer while travelling solo through six countries, ending his mighty trek in Germany, in aid of Brothers in Arms - a Glasgow charity tackling men's mental health and suicide prevention. ‌ Exactly one year on from his iconic Euros trek, Craig, of Paisley in Renfrewshire, has ticked off another incredible challenge to the list. ‌ On Monday June 30, Craig completed a 400-mile journey in just 16 days. He trekked, in his kilt, from Scotland's most Southern point, the Mull of Galloway to Dunnet Head, its most Northern tip. Craig raised a whopping £77,800 for the charity last year, and is now adding to the pot with over £5,200 raised during last month's walk. Speaking to Glasgow Live, he said mental health will "continue to be a cause I fight for until we see a real shift". He said: "I'm incredibly patriotic, so exploring Scotland was super fun. The full of the West Highland Way was just glorious - what really took me back was the hospitality from everyone throughout the trek, particularly those in the Highlands. "I had the kilt back out of course, it's screaming to be retired". ‌ Craig is hoping to "end the stigma" around mental health, particularly in men. He added: "Men's mental health is an issue that means the world to me, and it will continue to be a cause I fight for until we see a real shift — both in the conversation and in the harrowing statistics surrounding male suffering and suicide. "This isn't just about raising money; it's about challenging the stigma, changing the narrative, and helping men know they're not alone." ‌ At the finish line, the 22-year-old was met with his mum, dad and gran, as well as Dunnet Head locals and a piper. "I got such a special reception at Dunnet Head - there were people from the community clapping me in. It's good to know you're making a difference, it was quite emotional." ‌ Craig is nowhere near done yet, he added: "As long as my little legs continue to be able to walk, I will. I'll continue to push for change and try to make a difference in the space". With the World Cup qualifiers coming up this September, Craig said: "If we do qualify, people can definitely expect something from me. I have a few ideas in mind". Craig's JustGiving page is still open to donate. If you wish to contribute, then visit - Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Tottenham face Champions League opposition for Mohammed Kudus after bid rejected

Tottenham are planning to make an improved bid for West Ham star Mohammed Kudus, but there is competition for his signature. The Hammers are open to selling the 24-year-old, who has a release clause of £85m. Spurs have seen a bid of £50m rejected for the former Ajax star, but believe they can get their man for less than his release clause. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that Tottenham are expected to make another bid for the Ghana international, with new manager Thomas Frank signing off on a move for Kudus. There is plenty of interest in the attacking midfielder, though, with the BBC reporting that 'at least six top clubs' have contacted West Ham about the availability of Kudus. Chelsea is one of those clubs that have made an inquiry and could still beat Tottenham to signing Kudus. The player is happy to make a move, targeting a Champions League club, with both Chelsea and Tottenham able to offer him that. Kudus joined the Hammers from Ajax in the summer of 2023 for an initial £38m and had a standout first season with the east London club. He scored 14 goals in all competitions, making 45 appearances as he swiftly became a key player. The last campaign was less fruitful, scoring five goals in 35 outings across a difficult season for the club. Spurs are looking to build a new squad under manager Thomas Frank, although the only confirmed signings so far have been loan moves made permanent. Mathys Tel has signed from Bayern Munich and Kevin Danso from Lens, but the club want to bring in further additions after winning the Europa League and qualifying for the Champions League. Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo, Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo and Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze have all been linked with moves to Spurs, but there is competition for all of them. More Trending Manchester United are leading the chase for Mbeumo, while Arsenal are also being heavily linked with signing Eze. There will also be outgoings this summer from Spurs, with Richarlison linked with a move away from the Premier League, while Cristian Romero also looks likely to leave. Captain Son Heung-min has also been linked with a move, with MLS sides interested in the South Korean forward. The Sun report that 32-year-old is set for talks with Thomas Frank next week over his future, with just one year left on his contract in north London.
