Game of Thrones ‘siblings' are now playing lovers and it's seriously weird

Metro6 days ago
Sophie Turner has opened up about her new film, admitting that it was 'really weird' to play lovers with her former Game of Thrones co-star.
The Sansa Stark actress, 69, is set to reunite with Kit Harington – who played her onscreen 'sibling', Jon Snow – in Gothic horror movie The Dreadful, which is set in the 15th century.
It follows Anne (Sophie), who exists on the outskirts of society during the War of the Roses when a mysterious man from their past returns into her life.
In a new video interview with Vogue Magazine, she shed light on the project further, and how it felt to appear opposite her castmate, 38, in a more romantic role.
'I've got a few very exciting projects coming out,' she told the camera. 'I did a movie last year which I'm really excited about.
'[It's] with my old but very good friend, Kit Harington, who played my brother on Game of Thrones.
'We're doing a Gothic horror but we play lovers.
'Sorry guys, it's really weird for all of us.'
Game of Thrones ran for eight seasons between 2011 and 2019, with Lena Headey, Pdeter Dinklage, Emilia Clarke and Maisie Williams also among the star-studded cast.
Ned Stark (Sean Bean) served as head of the House Stark and shared daughter Sansa with wife Catelyn (Michelle Fairley).
However, he also fathered Jon Snow, meaning Sophie and Kit played half-siblings.
Despite the initial 'weirdness', the mom-of-two previously explained that she was actually the one to recommend Kit for a role on the Dreadful.
'They were trying to find someone for that role, and I was like, 'You can't not have Kit,'' she told the Times of working together once again.
'It's set around the time of the Wars of the Roses, so we'll probably be floating about in robes on clifftops again.'
However, the romance plot was hard to swallow for some fans, who are more used to seeing the pair as family members on their screens. More Trending
Unpacking the first look at the film on Reddit, Incorrect-Opinion penned: 'I might have a hard time, not seeing them as the Game of Thrones actors, especially considering they're supposed to be related in the show.'
Watchman28 quipped: 'Dude that's your sister.'
Immediate_Concert_46 joked of the plot: 'Could be canon ending to season 8.'
As GogoDogoLogo added: 'Ewwww feels like incest. I can't watch this!'

BBC's latest war drama has viewers watching every episode in one sitting

The BBC's latest drama, The Narrow Road to the Deep North, staring Jacob Elordi and Ciarán Hinds is now available to stream on BBC iPlayer The BBC's latest period drama, The Narrow Road to the Deep North, has become an instant hit with viewers who have been binge watching all five episodes in one sitting. ‌ Based on Richard Flanagan's Booker Prize-winning novel, the series spans 50 years and follows the life of Dorrigo Evans. From a passionate, forbidden romance with Amy Mulvaney to the harrowing experiences of a Japanese prisoner-of-war camp, and later life as a respected surgeon haunted by his past, the story is both captivating and gripping. ‌ As well as having a heart-wrenching storyline, the series boasts a stellar cast including Saltburn star Jacob Elordi, who portrays the younger Dorrigo and Ciarán Hinds, known for his role in Game of Thrones, taking on the role of older Dorrigo. ‌ According to the BBC's synopsis, the series is "an intimate character study of a complex man, a compelling portrayal of the courage and cruelty of war, and an unforgettable love story that endures through the darkest times." It follows Dorrigo, a Lieutenant Colonel and army surgeon, tracing his journey from a passionate affair with his first love to the brutal realities of a Japanese POW (prisoners of war) camp in Burma, and eventually to his conflicted later years as a decorated war hero. ‌ Unsurprisingly the series has an impressive 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with viewers hailing it as an "absolute masterpiece." Many viewers have been deeply moved by the series, describing it as "captivating," "tragic" and "outstanding." As well as sharing how they couldn't stop watching once they started, bingeing it all in one sitting. ‌ One viewer who reviewed the show said: "Watched all 5 in one evening. Very good series. War and love. Great acting, lovely soundtrack and a glimpse into the pain and suffering of WW2 and letting go of the love of your life," while another stated: "You guys should check out The Narrow Road to the Deep North. An outstanding series. Not an easy watch, but well worth it." Another recommended the series, saying: "While I can't speak to the historical accuracy of the show, it was easily one of the most jarring, tragic, and captivating stories I've seen in a long time." While a forth stated: "Disturbing, dark and brilliant. Hard to watch or even think about, but also riveting. The music is perfection and captures the feelings and confusion of the times. Stellar performances!" ‌ On filming the intense scenes during Dorrigo's time as a prisoner of war, lead star Jacob said: "For me that was the greatest part of the whole experience. It was like being in a massive theatre production that was constantly playing, and I'll forever be indebted to those boys in the jungle that made it feel so real." "There was no CGI or adding of bodies or anything like that. We had a limited crew, with very little hair and make-up touches. We carried a real tree up the side of a cliff for I don't know how many hours," he concluded. ‌ Meanwhile Ciarán said he was drawn to taking the role after reading the novel. "It's more than 12 years old now, and it was a formidable read," he told the BBC, adding: "It was extraordinary. It was harrowing, heartbreaking, a kind of epic storytelling." The Narrow Road to the Deep North is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.

Fantastic Four's Silver Surfer 'backlash' explained and what fans really think it means

Marvel's new Fantastic Four film has already caused a stir over key character *This article may contain minor spoilers for Fantastic Four: First Steps* ‌ Marvel's latest entry into its cinematic universe has nearly arrived on the big screen and like a few before it has already been causing apparent controversies. ‌ However, the issue raised by a minority over a key character in The Fantastic Four: First Steps is not so straight forward. Fans also have their own ideas and theories for the decisions being made by the filmmakers. ‌ The latest film is being directed by Matt Shakman, who is known for helming episodes of hit shows such as Game of Thrones, It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, Succession. Previously for Marvel, he also directed every episode of the series WandaVision. Fans will be treated to a new version of the Fantastic Four heroes, last seen on the big screen in 2007. when the characters were owned by Fox. This time, the lead roles are played by Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-bachrach. ‌ It was also revealed that the movie will feature a female Silver Surfer played by Julia Garner. Some corners were not pleased with this and it reportedly caused a backlash. During an event promoting the film, a reporter for a segment shared on BBC News asked Garner: "Your role received some backlash when it was first announced as a 'gender swap', followed by a very positive reaction with the trailer. How did you handle that initial reaction?" Garner responded: "Well, you know, the first one I was like I'm still just gonna do my job. And also it's Shalla-Bal, so it's different. And then you know, the second one I was just happy that people are resonating with it just like any other project so I'm just grateful to be at this dance to be honest." ‌ The star received plenty of praise following this response from fans, not only who support her casting but for being aware of the original character and comics. Who is Shalla-Bal? According to Marvel's bio of the character, Shalla Bal is a Zenn-Lavian, an extremely long-lived, race of humanoid aliens who generations ago achieved virtual utopia, having eradicated disease, poverty and other social ills. She falls in love with Norrin Radd, who is the original Silver Surfer in the comics. He is turned into the cosmic power being after offering to become Galactus' herald, in return for sparing Shalla-Bal's home planet. ‌ Footage from First Steps sees that Shalla-Bal has seems to be the one who has taken on this mantle instead. What do Marvel fans think about a female Silver Surfer? Fans think that the creatives at Marvel have done all this on purpose. Especially since the MCU has just come out of its Multiverse saga. Shalla-Bal is the Silver Surfer for a short time in the comic Earth X. This was a limited series which was set on an alternate Earth and portrayed a more dystopian Marvel universe. ‌ Some fans have theorised the new film could be doing something similar. A thread on Reddit suggests two possible reasons although be warned, they could be seen as potential spoilers if proved correct. The post said: "I understand the confusion on why they chose Shalla-Bal over Norrin Radd, which is the way more mainstream character, I have two theories on this topic. One: First Steps is set in another universe that'll eventually merge and be destroyed on Doomsday(or Secret Wars), I believe they're saving Norrin Radd for the main timeline." They continued: " Two: Shalla-Bal is the key to beating Galactus, she was chosen to relate most on Sue(who is starting a family), to be touched by the love of Sue and Reed, to be touched by their family dynamic as the four, and to be amazed at the birth of life. Remembering Norrin(who I assume has died because his power of Cosmic is passed to someone else) and her family through the four."
