UFC on ABC 8 full fight: Jamahal Hill TKOs Thiago Santos in barn-burner fight
Jamahal Hill's win prior to his championship breakthrough was a wild one.
Back in 2022, Hill headlined a UFC Fight Night event in Las Vegas against veteran and former UFC title challenger Thiago Santos. Fireworks were expected, but few saw coming the war that both Hill and Santos put on in the octagon. The two light heavyweights went toe to toe for over three rounds, with Hill picking up a TKO win in Round 4. It was that victory that ended up propelling Hill to a title opportunity months later against Glover Teixeira at UFC 283.

Hill (12-3 MMA, 6-3 UFC) returns to the cage this Saturday in the main event of UFC on ABC 8 (ABC, ESPN, ESPN+), which takes place Saturday at Baku Crystal Hall in Baku, Azerbaijan. He takes on former title challenger Khalil Rountree Jr. (13-6 MMA, 9-6 UFC) in a pivotal bout at 205 pounds.

Dustin Poirier 'content' after UFC 318, points to sign that retirement was right call
NEW ORLEANS – Dustin Poirier has no regrets walking away from MMA after UFC 318. Poirier (30-10 MMA, 22-9 UFC) didn't get his fairytale ending after losing a unanimous decision to Max Holloway (27-8 MMA, 23- 8 UFC) for the BMF title in Saturday's headliner at Smoothie King Center. However, that doesn't mean that Poirier isn't grateful for the experience of having his retirement fight in his home state of Louisiana. "I feel content," Poirier told MMA Junkie a day after his fight. "Yeah, I feel content and happy with my career. Wish last night would have went a little bit different, but that's fighting, and I really had a good time out there, enjoyed the love, appreciated everybody. Seeing all the positive energy, it's been an incredible journey, an incredible career. What an experience. I got to learn so much in these years of fighting. I'm just thankful." Poirier initially took issue with the judges' scorecards, thinking he at least won Rounds 2 and 4. "Going through the fight and immediately my thoughts about what just happened, it was like I thought I did enough. I thought I did enough," Poirier said. "And then I got back and I watched it, like what you're feeling and going through in there, and then what you see as a fool from an outside view is two different things. I can see him winning rounds, throwing more volume, landing body shots, pulling away in rounds. So, what I watched was different than what I felt." Poirier and Holloway didn't earn Fight of the Night, which shocked Holloway, but "The Diamond" is happy that his last dance was another all-out war. Poirier proved to still be competitive at the highest level, but he noticed something that made him feel that retiring was the correct decision. "I just wanted one more battle, and he gave it to me," Poirier said. "I think in there, I felt like in between rounds talking to my boxing coach, I could have taken more chances, but I was trying to protect myself at the same time, and I never really fought like that before. I would always put myself in harm's way to land the big shots, and this one I didn't, and maybe that's a sign that the decision I made was the right one. Self-preservation, get home to my family safe, that type of thing."

Good luck to defenders trying to tackle Commanders' Deebo Samuel in 2025
Is Deebo Samuel fit or fat? Video of the new Washington Commanders wide receiver went viral when he was working out during the voluntary part of the offseason schedule. Concerns were raised and criticisms launched all over social media. John Keim recently chatted with Samuel's personal trainer, Nick Hill, on his podcast. Hill is not a recent addition for Samuel. In fact, when Samuel was coming out of South Carolina, he worked with Hill in preparation for the 2019 NFL Combine. Things went well for Samuel, working prior to the draft with Hill, as Samuel was selected by the San Francisco 49ers 36th overall in the second round of that 2019 draft. Hill informed Keim that, during the draft preparation, he had an unbelievable receiver class, featuring Samuel, A.J. Brown, D.K. Metcalf, Paris Campbell, N'Keal Harry, and Johnny Dixon. Apparently, Samuel, after a couple of seasons, returned to Hill, as Hill had conveyed to Keim that Samuel and Hill had now worked together for the last four years. When Keim asked what has stood out regarding Samuel, Hill didn't hesitate to respond, "He's so explosive, really good at acceleration, and very powerful. That's what he is special at, and that is why when he gets the ball in his hands he is so dangerous; he is so quick from point A to point B. And that is still special to this day." Get this! Hill went as far as to say Samuel's body type is similar to another player who has worked out and worked with Hill, Saquon Barkley: "Just strong, powerful, fast." When Keim inquired regarding what type of worker Samuel is, Hill replied, "He's the type of guy that once he gets something in his mind and he puts those blinders on, he's going full speed. We are going at 6 am right now. He is going two or three sessions a day, going to bed and waking up the next day, and going after it again." Hill expressed that Samuel always takes a month to six weeks off after the season, but then once he starts working out again, he is on the gas pedal. Hill even went as far as to use the word "disciplined" regarding Samuel's workouts. Knowing of the photos and videos featuring Samuel that circulated a couple of months ago, Hill attempted to assure Commanders fans that Samuel had never reported to training camp or begun a season overweight. Contending that Samuel is naturally built bigger, Hill was unrelenting with Keim that Samuel will never be a 180-pound receiver. He simply has too much muscle and is too big; he will most often play at 220 at this stage of his career. Apparently, Samuel has also expressed to Hill that he is enjoying his new identity as a receiver on the Commanders, who is here to prove himself under his one-year deal. WNBA All-Star Broadcast Controversy: ESPN Host Shocks With Risqué Remark
During the halftime broadcast of the 2025 WNBA All-Star Game, ESPN host Elle Duncan made a controversial remark that raised the eyebrows of fans and colleagues alike. Duncan was referencing the lack of defense in the high-scoring game where Team Collier led Team Clark 82-60. 'We hope it gets a little bit more competitive. Because like a girls' trip to Cancun, right now, there's no D,' she exclaimed. The comment, crude in nature but a fairly solid joke following the ESPYs, which featured a clearly non-PC Shane Gillis in action, drew mixed reactions. Elle Duncan in a Timeout Duncan's co-analyst Chiney Ogwumike responded by jokingly putting her in 'timeout' as the broadcast cut to a commercial. 'Elle, you're in timeout. You're done,' she said. Viewers on social media were a little less forgiving. 'What does she mean by that joke?' one fan wrote, clearly understanding what she meant. 'I had to explain to my daughter that it meant absolutely nothing, she just wanted to watch her favorite WNBA players play, not an inappropriate remark.' 'How am I supposed to tell her that isn't the way you speak on national television?' 'Disgusting and vulgar,' a more succinct response reads. Another fan wondered, 'Can you imagine if a man said something similar?' RELATED: More Controversy at the WNBA All-Star Game For the record, the game didn't see much improvement in defense after the halftime break either. Team Collier defeated Team Clark 151-131, led by Napheesa Collier's 36 points. While there was controversy with the broadcast, there was also controversy before the WNBA All-Star game even started. During warm-ups, both teams came out onto the court wearing shirts that read 'Pay Us What You Owe Us,' a message meant to pressure WNBA management to increase player salaries. The league has never turned a profit—not even in Caitlin Clark's first season. Indeed, the WNBA is subsidized by the NBA just to stay afloat. They lost $40 million even as Clark brought in unprecedented ratings and ticket sales. You have a better chance of seeing defense in an All-Star game than you do of seeing the league turn a profit.
