Caitlin Clark, Sabrina Ionescu and Allisha Gray headline WNBA All-Star 3-point contest
NEW YORK (AP) — Caitlin Clark will be in a 3-point contest for the first time in her pro career as the Indiana Fever guard will compete Friday night in the WNBA All-Star competition.
She'll be joined by contest record holder Sabrina Ionescu, who last entered the contest in 2023 and hit 25 of her 27 shots in the final round, scoring 37 points. It was the most shots made in a 3-point contest in either the WNBA or NBA.
The Liberty's star guard wanted to make sure she was completely healthy before officially entering the contest. She said she'll be trying to break her own mark.
Clark's management team said earlier this year when she turned down competing in some fashion at NBA All-Star weekend that the young star wanted her first 3-point contest to be in Indianapolis at the WNBA weekend.
Allisha Gray, who made her own history last season, winning the 3-point and Skills Challenge, will try and defend her title in both competitions. She beat Jonquel Jones 22-21 to win the 3-point shootout. Gray beat Sophie Cunningham by 2 seconds to win the skills competition.
The Atlanta Dream star received $110,000 from Aflac as part of a partnership with the WNBPA. The 3-point contest winner this year will get an extra $5,000 from Aflac. Gray also got $2,575 from the league for each of her two victories.
Other participants in the 3-point contest are Washington rookie Sonia Citron and Los Angeles' Kelsey Plum.
The other players competing in the skills challenge will be New York's Natasha Cloud, Seattle's Skylar Diggins and Erica Wheeler, and Minnesota's Courtney Williams.

🚨 Date set: 2026 World Cup draw to take place on 5 December
TyC Sports reports this after receiving official confirmation from FIFA. According to Gastón Edul, the draw for the group stage of the 2026 World Cup already has a date and location. It will be on December 5th in Las Vegas, in one of its most iconic venues, The Sphere at The Venetian Resort. The so-called 'city of sin' will host the draw for the group stage of the 2026 World Cup at the beginning of December. A tournament for which some teams like Argentina, Brazil, Japan or debutants like Uzbekistan and already have confirmed tickets, pending the start of the bulk of the World Cup qualification in Europe and Africa. This will be a draw that involves 48 teams for the first time in the history of the FIFA World Cup. A draw that will take place in a venue that has recently become an icon of Las Vegas, The Sphere at The Venetian Resort, a venue that has already hosted major world-class events such as the NBA All-Star Game or UFC and boxing cards with disputes for world titles. 📸 JOHN GRUZINSKI Once again, FIFA is trusting Las Vegas to host an event like the draw for the group stage of the World Cup. On the last occasion that this event was held in the city, in 1993, the ceremony took place at the Las Vegas Convention Center.📸 Chris Graythen - 2023 Getty Images

Ronald Acuña Jr.'s comments on injury scare showed why Brian Snitker is a problem
An emotional Ronald Acuña Jr. meets with the media after leaving Tuesday's Braves game with right Achilles 2023 NL MVP missed most of the 2024 season with a torn ACL in his left knee (and suffered a torn ACL in his right knee in 2021). #MLB By all accounts, the 2025 season has been a complete disaster for the Atlanta Braves. And it's difficult to overlook the role that manager Brian Snitker has played in baseball's biggest disappointment. On Tuesday night, it nearly cost the Braves beyond this season. Braves star Ronald Acuña Jr. was removed from Tuesday's game against Kansas City in the sixth inning after what the Braves described as Achilles tightness. With an Achilles injury, a medical staff is typically able to test for a tear before needing an MRI to confirm. So, the Braves likely avoided a worst-case scenario with their superstar who just returned from a second ACL tear. But amid Acuña's postgame comments, he revealed a troubling trend about the Braves manager. Snitker continues to put his players at risk either by simply not noticing an injury or allowing players to push through pain when they shouldn't. Acuña told reporters that his calf and Achilles pain started on Monday night, but he convinced Snitker to let him play on Tuesday because he had already missed so much time due to his ACL recovery and back pain around the All-Star break. That's where a manager needs to step in and save a player from himself. Obviously, Acuña is a competitor who loves the game and wants to be on the field for his team. But Acuña's longterm health has to be Snitker's top priority — especially in a season heading nowhere. Yet, Snitker couldn't make that tough decision over Acuña's objections, and it nearly sent the Braves superstar into a third major injury. Acuña's discomfort is in the upper Achilles/lower right calf region. Preliminary tests provided no reason to believe he has a significant injury. Today's MRI will verify if this is true. If results match current expectations, there's a chance Acuña could play again in 2-3 weeks Still, that's managerial malpractice at the highest order, and it wasn't a one-off mistake on Snitker's part this season. We already saw as Snitker allowed breakout rookie AJ Smith-Shawver to pitch into what ultimately became a ruptured UCL. It took Spencer Strider alerting the coaches in order to get Smith-Shawver out of the game. Smith-Shawver ended up needing Tommy John surgery and could miss most or all of 2026. WOW man. We are so lucky to have Spencer StriderAfter AJSS got hit by a line drive he stayed in the game. Strider walked over to Kranny and told him he noticed something with AJSS arm, then they went out and pulled him. Strider talked with the coaches then went down to check on Snitker also allowed Chris Sale to face two more batters after the Braves ace had fractured his rib trying to make a play in the ninth inning against the Mets. Sale had already thrown 107 pitches before the injury and was going for a complete game. It was just another instance of Snitker deferring to his players' competitiveness over looking out for their wellbeing. That's the danger of having a manager who is so clearly checked out. It could cost a team beyond a single season.

Alex Rodriguez sees Napheesa Collier following his path as he takes control of Timberwolves, Lynx
Alex Rodriguez appreciates a business-minded athlete. The Yankees great — who made the jump from MLB superstar to CEO of A-Rod Corp., and now co-owner of the NBA's Timberwolves and the WNBA's Lynx — heaped praise on Lynx veteran Napheesa Collier for building a business empire while in the prime of her career. 'Napheesa is an incredible example and role model for other athletes, both men and women, that you can take something in sports and not take your eye off the ball, but yet build something really equally as special on the business side,' Rodgriguez told The Post while speaking on behalf of his partnership with Lysol. 'So, hats off to her.' 'He expected only the best, so I was able to learn from the best in the business, that was great.
