Anthony Edwards seems fully committed to winning with the Minnesota Timberwolves. After getting drafted five years ago as the team's No. 1 pick, he's only become better with each season and looks to be on the brink of playing for a championship.

He and the team have failed twice to reach the NBA Finals in back-to-back seasons, losing to Luka and Dallas, followed by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Oklahoma City. While the Western Conference remains competitive, Minnesota is taking significant steps to secure a playoff-contending roster.
Over the past several weeks, speculation has been circulating about free agents Julius Randle and Naz Reid. Of the two players, Reid was the one who many people believed might test the free agency market and potentially choose a different team.
However, big news hit on Friday, as the Timberwolves signed him to a new deal. According to ESPN, it's worth $125 million over five years and includes a player option in 2029-30.

Many fans likely breathed a sigh of relief as an essential part of the Timberwolves roster remains on the team. Reid joined the team in 2019 as an undrafted player and has since become a valuable contributor off Minnesota's bench, backing up center Rudy Gobert and forward Julius Randle in games.

Last year's Sixth Man of the Year, Reid, averaged 14.2 points, six rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game last season. His teammate, Ant-Man, expressed his sentiments about Minnesota's new deal.
Edwards hadn't been active on his X regarding either the team's recent NBA Draft picks, Joan Beringer and Rocco Zikarsky. However, once the news hit about Reid, Ant-Man posted a photo on X showing him and his teammate after a win against the Los Angeles Lakers. He included just two words: "He's back."
Keeping a roster of talented players together, including rising stars ready to compete for the Finals, is undoubtedly a step in the right direction for this Minnesota team, and it seems Edwards is pleased to see his teammate staying there.
During Paul Allen's KFAN FM 100.3 interview, Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch previously said that he believed both Reid and Randle would be back with the team next season. There has been no news yet regarding Randle.

Meanwhile, ESPN's NBA analyst and writer, Brian Windhorst, said during a draft night reactions live stream that he thought Alexander-Walker would leave via free agency.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander agrees to massive 4-year extension with NBA champion Thunder, AP source says

Associated Press OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Oklahoma City Thunder have agreed on a record-setting 4-year, $285 million extension that would give him the highest single-season average salary in NBA history, a person with knowledge of the agreement said Tuesday. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the deal has not been publicly announced and likely won't be until the league's moratorium on most offseason signings is lifted on Sunday. ESPN first reported on the agreement. News of the deal comes on Canada Day, a fitting coincidence for the 26-year-old from Ontario who is coming off a season like few others in NBA history. Not only did Gilgeous-Alexander lead the Thunder to their first NBA championship and the league's best record, he swept most major individual awards — winning regular-season and NBA Finals MVP honors and the scoring title. The supermax extension was not unexpected. It was a question of timing; he could have taken a deal with an even higher total value next summer. Based on the NBA's most recent salary cap projections — the exact numbers will not be finalized until June 2027 — Gilgeous-Alexander would make somewhere around $63 million in the first season and nearly $79 million during the 2030-31 season. That would put him at an average payout of about $1 million per regular season game, and would be the highest single-season salary in NBA history. Gilgeous-Alexander didn't enter the league with superstar expectations. He was the 11th overall pick in the 2018 draft, and he was traded from the Los Angeles Clippers to the Thunder after his rookie year. He has been on an upward trajectory ever since, and Thunder general manager Sam Presti believes that will continue. 'He's gotten better every single year,' Presti said. 'His mindset has allowed him to take these steps and also not — I don't feel like his progress is, like, volatile. I don't know if that makes sense, but I don't feel like it's built on things that can't be repeated and built up again.' Presti referred to Gilgeous-Alexander as a 'basketball artist' because he has the emotional intelligence to know when to call upon his various gifts. 'I just think he's got left and right brain working, and I think when you think about people that are extremely successful in what they do, they can't operate all on one side or the other,' Presti said. 'People have to have — to me, the great people in life, business, sports, any industry, have to be able to access both sides, a creative side and then also a very objective side.' The Thunder are set to be contenders for years. Their best player is in place long-term, all their major players are under contract through at least next season and Presti has a slew of draft picks stashed from previous trades. 'We definitely still have room to grow,' Gilgeous-Alexander said after the Game 7 win over the Indiana Pacers. 'That's the fun part of this. So many of us can still get better. There's not very many of us on the team that are 'in our prime' or even close to it.' ___ AP Basketball Writer Tim Reynolds contributed to this report. ___ AP NBA: recommended

NBA free agency 2025: Live updates, news, rumors as Myles Turner agrees to terms with Milwaukee Bucks, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander signs reported extension with Thunder

The free agency floodgates are officially open. Monday night, teams could begin negotiations with other pending free agents as the NBA officially set its salary cap at $154.647 million for the 2025-26 season. That's up 10% from last season, which was the expected jump. It took about an hour for things to get going when free agency kicked off on Monday evening, but before long, news broke that Jaren Jackson Jr. and the Grizzlies are expected to agree on a five-year, $240 million max extension, according to ESPN's Shams Charania. Shortly after, Charania reported the Nuggets are trading Michael Porter Jr. to the Nets in exchange for Cam Johnson. Advertisement Other deals Monday night included Dorian Finney-Smith agreeing to a four-year, $53 million contract with the Rockets, Ty Jerome and the Grizzlies agreeing to a three-year, $28 million contract and the Mavericks striking a two-year, $13 million deal with point guard D'Angelo Russell. About 12 hours later, reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander signed a four-year, $285 million supermax extension with the Oklahoma City Thunder, according to ESPN's Shams Charania. Shortly after, former Indiana Pacers center Myles Turner reportedly agreed to a four-year, $107 million deal with the Milwaukee Bucks — the top-ranked center on Yahoo Sports' free agent big board, now off the table. Things began shifting last weekend, with the Phoenix Suns trading superstar Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks and the 10th pick (Khaman Maluach) in the 2025 NBA Draft. The Boston Celtics also began a refresh by trading Jrue Holiday to the Portland Trailblazers and Kristaps Porziņģis to the Atlanta Hawks. Advertisement Plenty of players will stay put with their current teams for now, though. On Sunday, LeBron James reportedly picked up his $52.6 million option for the 2025-26 season, stating his hopes of competing for a championship while the Lakers build for the future. James Harden will also stick in Los Angeles, signing a new two-year, $81 million deal after declining his player option for next season. Julius Randle will remain in Minnesota after reportedly agreeing to a three-year, $100 million contract with the Timberwolves. Other notable potential free agents include DeAndre Ayton, Jonathan Kuminga and more (check out Yahoo Sports' NBA free agent big board here). Find all of this year's free agency deals here.
