Navy truck involved in five-vehicle crash, six people injured

ALOR SETAR: Six people have been injured in a five-vehicle pile-up, including a Navy truck, near Simpang Tiga Jalan Teluk Baru in Langkawi.
The Front Commander of the Langkawi International Aerospace and Maritime Exhibition (Lima'25) operations room for the Kedah Fire and Rescue Department, Senior Fire Superintendent I Ahmad Aminuddin Abd Rahim, said they received a call regarding the incident at 3pm on Friday (May 23) and arrived at the location five minutes later.
"The operations room received an emergency call via the land search and rescue (SAR) team, informing them of a road accident involving five vehicles, namely a navy lorry and four cars.
"There were 30 victims involved, of whom five men and one woman sustained injuries. One of the victims suffered a neck injury," he said in a statement on Friday.
He added that more than 40 officers and personnel from the police, Navy, Malaysian Civil Defence Force and Health Ministry assisted in the operation.
The Navy, in a statement, said that the three-ton truck carrying personnel for the Lima'25 maritime segment demonstration went out of control and skidded.
"There were no fatalities and all 25 personnel involved were taken to the maritime segment medical room for initial treatment. Two personnel were taken to Sultanah Maliha Hospital, Langkawi, for further treatment due to leg injuries.
"The Navy will establish a board of inquiry to determine the cause of the incident," it said.
Langkawi police chief Asst Comm Shariman Ashari confirmed the incident and said any further information would be announced later. – Bernama

ISKANDAR PUTERI: The operation to hoist the wreckage of the police helicopter that crashed into Sungai Pulai in Gelang Patah is expected to begin at 8am on Thursday (July 17). A multi-agency coordination meeting was held on Wednesday (July 16) co-chaired by Johor internal security and public order department chief SAC Muhd Zailani Abdullah and Subang Air Operations Force deputy commander (Operations) SAC Ahmad Lokman Abdul Hadi and was attended by 25 officers from various relevant agencies. The agencies are the Putrajaya Air Accident Investigation Bureau, the Navy, Johor Region Two marine police, Johor Port Authority, Port of Tanjung Pelepas, Fire and Rescue Department, Health Ministry and Iskandar Puteri police headquarters. An integrated operations command centre has also been set up near the crash site as the main control centre to coordinate daily tasks, including rescue, safety and medical operations. Following the meeting, Muhd Zailani and Ahmad Lokman inspected the location of the helicopter wreckage by boat to assess technical requirements and safety aspects ahead of the hoisting operation. Several Navy divers are expected to conduct dives to examine the wreckage before the hoisting operation. An ambulance was also on standby at the site. In the 10.15am incident on Thursday, an AS355N police helicopter was involved in an accident during a flypast demonstration as part of the Multilateral Nuclear Security Detection Exercise 2025. ALOR SETAR: A multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) plunged into a river near Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah (HSB) last night. The 41-year-old driver, however, escaped with only minor injuries. The Kedah Fire and Rescue Department's Operations Centre said it received a distress call about the incident at 8.01pm. A team from the Alor Setar Fire and Rescue Station, led by Senior Fire Officer II Roslan Saad and comprising six personnel, was dispatched to the scene. "The Kedah operations command centre received an emergency call via the MERS 999 line, reporting that a Toyota Alphard had skidded and plunged into the river. "The victim was rescued and brought to a safe location for treatment," the department said in a statement. The victim was later taken to HSB. The operation concluded at 8.52pm. It is understood that the stretch of road near the river has seen multiple accidents, with vehicles reportedly plunging into the water in past incidents.
