Coleen Rooney eclipses husband Wayne as main breadwinner as Wag's earnings soar while his income slumps
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) COLEEN Rooney's earnings have eclipsed those of ex-England footballer hubby Wayne after her business ventures made a £1.3million profit. New figures for her firm, CWR 2021, indicate the income from her endorsements and media career more than tripled in a year. Former Three Lions skipper Wayne, 39, was reportedly on around £500,000 as manager of Plymouth Argyle, before leaving the club in December. The ex-Manchester United striker was said to be raking in £300,000 a week at the peak of his earning power in 2014. Coleen's shift to becoming the main breadwinner will now be chronicled in a Disney+ documentary, called The Rooneys. Confirmed yesterday by the streaming giant, she will be seen running her business while he taking the couple's four sons to school. A financial expert said: 'These earnings show that, even before Coleen signed up for I'm A Celeb, she was already bringing in more money than Wayne. 'On the back of her jungle stint, where she was incredibly popular with the viewing public, she's now likely to see her earnings soar even further. 'And the increased interest in Coleen after she did so well on the show is also likely to have sealed the deal on the Disney contract. 'Getting big bucks from a global streamer, plus her pay cheque from ITV, will no doubt swell the Rooneys coffers even further.' Coleen picked up a big fee for I'm A Celebrity in the autumn when she was pipped to first place by McFly singer Danny Jones, 39. Wayne Rooney pictured looking glum on holiday with Coleen & Utd legend pals In recent months she has continued to bring in money through deals such as endorsing health supplement brand Applied Nutrition. Coleen has remained firmly in the public eye following her 2023 Wagatha court case brought by Rebekah Vardy. Coleen had accused Rebekah's Instagram account of leaking posts from her own private account. A judge dismissed Rebekah's libel claim on the basis that Coleen's statements were substantially true. That led to an three-part documentary series The Real Wagatha Story featuring exclusive access to Coleen. Wayne has recently turned to football punditry following a lean spell as a manager. He went from Derby County to briefly playing for DC United in the US, then returning to management at Birmingham City, before his doomed stint at Plymouth. But the shifting fortunes for the Rooneys have provided lots of interest for documentary makers, which has proved lucrative for the family. After making Prime Video biopic Rooney with Lorton Productions in 2022, the same creative team are now behind the Disney+ show. 5 Coleen has brought in big money through deals such as endorsing health supplement brand Applied Nutrition Credit: Supplied 5 Disney+'s three-part documentary series The Real Wagatha Story featured exclusive access to Coleen Credit: Disney+ 5 Coleen picked up a big fee for I'm A Celebrity last autumn Credit: Rex Unlock even more award-winning articles as The Sun launches brand new membership programme - Sun Club.

'Ridiculous' Wimbledon rule saw female players have to go braless before change
'Ridiculous' Wimbledon rule saw female players have to go braless before change Wimbledon's strict dress code has been well-documented over the years, and it once led to a bizarre situation where female players were forced to remove their bras Venus Williams once found herself at the centre of the controversial rules (Image: Getty ) Wimbledon once faced criticism from ex-champion and commentator Pat Cash for its strict dress code, which previously required female players to remove their bras if they weren't white. In a move towards modernity, the prestigious tournament relaxed its all-white clothing policy in 2022, permitting women to wear dark-coloured undershorts. The esteemed tennis club has long been celebrated for its history, prestige and its stern rulings, yet its traditional mandate for all-white attire has been scrutinised by both commentators and athletes. The regulation dates back to the 1880s, originally intended to minimise the visibility of sweat marks that were deemed unseemly at the time. This included undergarments, leading to controversy in 2014 when female players were supposedly instructed to discard bras that violated the dress code. According to Wimbledon's rules, any visible undergarments must be entirely white, save for a single trim of colour no broader than one centimetre. However, the stringent dress code was softened three years back, allowing female competitors to don solid, mid/dark-coloured undershorts as long as they are not longer than the skirts or shorts worn over them. Yet, a decade earlier, the enforcement of this rule reached what some called "ridiculous" levels, with several players reportedly being asked to remove bras that did not adhere to the stipulations. Article continues below Venus Williams changed her bra after a rain delay in 2017 (Image: Getty ) During her second-round match against Caroline Wozniacki at Wimbledon, Great Britain's Naomi Broady was reportedly without a bra, though it wasn't clear if she had been asked to remove it. The peculiar enforcement of the dress code was discussed on BBC Radio 5 Live, where Cash, the 1987 Wimbledon champion, vehemently criticised the tournament's stance, reports the Express. "Some of the girls have been told to go back and change their bras and tops because they had slight colour on them," Cash said. "I believe some of the girls didn't have suitable sports bras and had to go without them. It has absolutely gone ridiculous." The men weren't exempt from scrutiny either, as Cash continued: "One of the players was called into the referees' office because he had blue underwear that showed through when he got sweaty, so he was told not to wear dark underwear." Pat Cash once slammed the ruling (Image: Justin Stead ) In 2017, the issue resurfaced when Venus Williams seemed to swap her bright-pink bra during a rain interruption, although she declined to discuss the incident later. Following significant backlash from players, commentators, and even protests by a group named Address The Dress Code, Wimbledon amended its strict dress code. The action group called on event organisers to reconsider the strict dress code due to worries about female players who are menstruating, leading to a swift relaxation of the rules. Article continues below Sally Bolton, the All England Lawn Tennis Club's chief executive, spoke about the modification, noting that it was intended to alleviate "a potential source of anxiety". "We are committed to supporting the players and listening to their feedback as to how they can perform at their best," Bolton said. "It is our hope that this rule adjustment will help players focus purely on their performance."
