Bahraich: 12-yr-old attacked by wolf

Time of India05-06-2025
Bahraich: A 12-year-old boy, identified as Aman, was attacked by a wolf in Kharmariya Hardo Patti village in Mahsi area of Bahraich district early on Thursday morning.
The boy sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital.
The forest department has, so far, failed to capture the wild animal and the repeated wolf sightings have triggered fear among villagers.
Panic gripped the Mahsi Tehsil of Bahraich district where a wild wolf snatched a two-year-old child from his mother's lap on Tuesday night. A few hours later, the child's mutilated body was recovered from a nearby sugarcane field, triggering fear and anger among the locals.
District magistrate, Bahraich, Monika Rani, who has initiated several precautionary measures, said that the area is being monitored using drones.
She has directed officials to maintain night surveillance in vulnerable villages, particularly those near forests.
The DM has also appealed to residents to keep a close watch on their children, avoid sleeping outside or on open terrace and immediately report any sighting of wild animals to officers concerned. The DM directed the officials to coordinate with PRD personnel, anganwadi workers, sanitation staff, village heads, lekhpals and gram panchayat secretaries. They were instructed to stay alert from 8 pm to 5 am, raise awareness among villagers and continuously update a designated WhatsApp group with real-time information.

Online bullying can be as mentally traumatic as physical violence: Delhi HC

Cyberbullying can be as mentally traumatic and scarring as physical violence, the Delhi High Court has said, while upholding the conviction of a man who sent morphed nude images and threatening messages to a minor girl studying in Class 9. The judgment, delivered on July 28 by Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma, stressed the devastating psychological impact of online harassment, particularly on children. (HT Archive) The court rejected his appeal against a five-year sentence, describing the case as a 'textbook example of cyberbullying.' The judgment, delivered on July 28 by Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma, stressed the devastating psychological impact of online harassment, particularly on children. 'What is deeply concerning is the use of technology to commit cyberbullying – an act that, while faceless and silent, can be as mentally traumatic and scarring as physical violence, especially when directed towards children. Such conduct, in the virtual world, has very real and devastating consequences in the real world,' justice Sharma said. The conviction stems from a complaint filed in September 2016 by the victim's mother. The minor girl, then in Class 9, was using a tablet for studying when she received morphed obscene images of herself along with threatening messages on WhatsApp. The sender, a man known to the family, warned her that the photos would be circulated if she didn't comply with his demands. The trial court in March last year had convicted him under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code including sexual harassment, stalking, criminial intimidation, sections 12 (sexual harassment) and 14 (using child for pornographic purposes) of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, 2012 and section 67 (publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form) under the Information Technology Act. Challenging the verdict, the man claimed he was falsely implicated and that the case was full of contradictions. The Delhi Police, however, maintained that the evidence clearly showed he had transmitted obscene material and had criminally intimidated a minor. Justice Sharma, in her 35-page ruling, upheld the trial court's decision. She said that even the threat of circulating morphed images, without actually doing so, can cause irreparable long-term damage to a child's mental well-being and dignity. The act of morphing her face, the court added, sought to not only shame her but to coerce her by creating fear. 'A morphed image once created and circulated can have long-term consequences for a child's mental health, dignity, and reputation,' the judge observed. 'The fear of such circulation alone, even if the image is never actually published, is enough to terrorise a young mind.' The court also highlighted the urgent need to protect children in digital spaces. With growing reliance on gadgets for education, it said, the notion of child safety must extend beyond physical environments. 'This court is of the view that creating a safe environment for children cannot be restricted to physical spaces alone. The modern world demands that equal protection be extended to digital spaces, where children are now spending considerable time,' the court said.

On June 19, the complainant was persuaded to subscribe to an initial public offering (IPO) and was pressured to transfer at least 3 crore for share allocation. Cops crack down on dating apps promoting obscene video chats

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad cybercrime police have registered a suo-moto case against several mobile dating applications accused of promoting sexually explicit video interactions in exchange for money. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The case was initiated following observations made during web patrolling by constable Ch Venu Gopal, who flagged multiple apps offering live video chats with women. In his complaint, Gopal stated that after users create a free profile, they are prompted to purchase virtual tokens to initiate video calls with female hosts of their choice. "Almost every video call quickly turns vulgar. The women either expose themselves or persuade users to shift to WhatsApp, where they continue to share explicit content," the constable noted. Police said that many of these apps, despite branding themselves as 'safe dating' or 'friend-making' platforms, are actually facilitating sexually suggestive chats in return for payment. Among the 37 apps named in the FIR, several have amassed millions of downloads on the Google Play Store. "These platforms are camouflaging sex-based commerce under the guise of dating or social networking. It is not just morally degrading, but also a clear violation of laws relating to the indecent representation of women and the transmission of obscene material," the complaint stated. A case has been registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 79 (Gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), Section 143 (Trafficking of person), Section 144 (Exploitation of trafficked persons), Section 294 (Sale of obscene material) and Section 316(2) (Criminal breach of trust). Additionally, charges have been invoked under Sections 3 and 4 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "We are writing to Google Play Store to seek details about these apps. Our investigation will focus on identifying who is behind these platforms, their operating locations, the women featured, and how the revenue is generated," said a senior cybercrime official. "The sale of virtual tokens appears to be the primary revenue model, cleverly masked under social interaction." The police have not ruled out the involvement of organised networks and said further action will depend on digital forensics and platform responses.
