This was emphasised by His Excellency Osama bin Saleh Al Alawi, Minister of Social Development and Chairman of the 44th session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs, as he chaired a meeting of Arab ministers and heads of delegations held on the sidelines of the 18th Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (COSP18) at the United Nations headquarters.

He highlighted the vital role played by the United Nations in advancing disability and social development issues.
The minister commended the fruitful partnership between the organisation and Arab states.

Bahrain's youth must dream global!
George Bernard Shaw famously said, ''Youth is wasted on the young' which implies young people don't fully appreciate or utilize the opportunities and vitality of their youth. As we emerge from the thought-provoking and energetic celebrations of Arab Youth Day on July 5, I want to say that Bahrain's leadership certainly does not subscribe to this idea. Consider these significant indicators:. There is a designated Bahraini Youth Day on March 25 every year. Such is His Majesty King Hamad's keen interest in youth, that he has instituted the much-prized King Hamad Award for Youth Empowerment. The award, which is given under the umbrella of the United Nations, recognizes the efforts of youth around the world to be active and productive citizens contributing to the well-being of their communities and the environment. It also acknowledges organizations that work to improve the environment and infrastructure for youth to make an impact, across all U.N. member states. Since 1999, the Crown Princes International Scholarship Programme instituted by Crown Prince & PM, HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, has given the brightest and best young minds in Bahrain the opportunity to study at some of the finest educational institutions in the world, thus building a corps of talented, trained and highly educated youth to serve the Kingdom and the world. Bahraini youth icon, HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, His Majesty the King's Representative for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs, leads many initiatives and projects that have created many opportunities for young people, strengthening their roles in innovation, leadership, and humanitarian work, and allowing them to actively contribute to both current progress and future growth. We have an active and dedicated Minister for Youth Affairs, H.E. Rawan bint Najib Tawfiqi, whose Ministry works closely with different arms of government to place the aspirations of our youth front and centre of our development. The successful launch of the 'Al Munther' satellite, led by Bahraini youth, highlights their ambition and determination. The launch and implementation of 'The Hope Network' earlier this year, which is a platform for decision-makers in youth empowerment and a commitment to further developing global youth collaboration. Now, with so many opportunities and initiatives, our Bahraini youth must take their rightful place on the world stage as movers and shakers of the global community. I urge our young people to think global, dream big and put their hearts and souls into making their world and their future meaningful and bright, thus bringing pride to Bahrain.

Syrians Fear Israel Normalization Could Trigger Another Countrywide War
Many Syrians fear another country-wide war could erupt if the country's new post-Assad rulers make peace with Israel through a normalization deal based on Trump's Abraham Accords. Last week, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar told reports that normalization with Syria and Lebanon is on the table, as Prime Minister Netanyahu agrees with Washington on a hoped-for expansion of the Abraham Accords. 'Israel is interested in expanding the Abraham Accords circle of peace and normalization,' Saar said. Israel had already signed deals with the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Morocco and Sudan – the result of Trump's first term in office. 'We have an interest in adding countries such as Syria and Lebanon, our neighbors – to the circle of peace and normalization while safeguarding Israel's essential and security interests,' Saar added. PM Netanyahu himself has recently said that the June war with Iran had opened 'the path to dramatically enlarge the peace accord.' From a strategic point of view, Tel Aviv wants to isolate any Arab country which remains resistant and critical of its war in Gaza. Going back to Hafez al-Assad who ruled Syria since 1970, Ba'ath-ruled Syria had long been Israel's fiercest enemy and neighbor, with the two having fought several wars. The average Syrian has long been hugely critical of Zionism and Israeli expansionism, particularly since it came under control of the Golan Heights. Now under President Sharaa, hundreds of foreign jihadist groups are running around Syria, often persecuting Christians, Alawites, and Druze as Sharaa's HTS government in Damascus turns a blind eye. ISIS is also a continuing reality in parts of Syria – though Sharaa himself is 'former'-ISIS, as are some government ministers and officials. Strangely, or perhaps unsurprisingly given it was at one point a tool of the US regime change war on Damascus, the Islamic State has never really waged a terror war against Israel. The reality is that Israel was also a big player in the CIA's regime change operations, dubbed 'Timber Sycamore'.

Fuel shortages in Gaza at 'critical levels', UN warns
The United Nations warned Saturday that dire fuel shortages in the Gaza Strip had reached "critical levels", threatening to dramatically increase the suffering in the war-ravaged Palestinian territory. "After almost two years of war, people in Gaza are facing extreme hardships, including widespread food insecurity. When fuel runs out, it places an unbearable new burden on a population teetering on the edge of starvation," seven UN agencies cautioned in a joint statement.
