Robert Kraft reveals greatest moment in Patriots history

USA Today3 days ago

There have been numerous memorable moments for the New England Patriots throughout the franchise's history. When you think of all of the Super Bowl titles, epic playoff games and major divisional victories, it's hard to pick just one moment as the best.
Patriots owner Robert Kraft couldn't name his favorite Super Bowl because they're all special in their own right, but he did offer up his greatest moment with the team. That moment was at Super Bowl XXXVI when the underdog Patriots defeated the St. Louis Rams and "The Greatest Show on Turf."
It was February 3, 2002. The Patriots went head-to-head with a stalwart Rams team that included the likes of quarterback Kurt Warner, running back Marshall Faulk and wide receivers Isaac Bruce and Torry Holt. Offensively, the Rams were a juggernaut, averaging 31.4 points per game and 418.1 yards per game. They recorded 503 total points and 6,930 offensive yards.
'Well, there's one thing about when you dream of owning a team, and then you want to win," Kraft told ESPN's Adam Schefter on The Adam Schefter Podcast. "When we went to the Super Bowl in the 2001 season, four months after 9/11, and the country was so messed up, and we were the largest underdog against 'The Greatest Show on Turf', the St. Louis Rams. I'll never forget seeing the clock tick down as Adam Vinatieri makes the kick as time runs out, and we win the Super Bowl. It was just unbelievable."
The Patriots upsetting the Rams was a magical moment because it kick-started the greatest dynasty in NFL history. It was also the first Super Bowl win for legendary quarterback Tom Brady and kicker Adam Vinatieri.
That moment was extra special because it signaled that Kraft and the Patriots had finally made it. They became a championship team.

NFL Insider Uses Josh Allen Blueprint as Example for NY Giants

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Do the New York Giants have a potential Josh Allen situation on their hands? One prominent NFL Insider used the Buffalo Bills quarterback as an example for the Giants as they enter a critical season. New York wants to compete at the highest level as early as this season. Despite missing the playoffs once again last year, the Giants made some key changes, notably at the quarterback position. For the year, they signed Russell Wilson and added the veteran backup, Jameis Winston. But the future is also in New York. Jaxson Dart, the first-round pick out of Ole Miss, joined the Giants' organization to be the quarterback of the future. While "future" is the keyword here, not many outside of the franchise are buying into the idea that Wilson is going to start and finish the year as the Giants' starting QB. Just like how Nathan Peterman didn't start and finish the season under center with the Buffalo Bills in 2018. ESPN's Adam Schefter made it clear that the two situations are not the same. At the time, Peterman was far from proven as a quarterback in the NFL and didn't have much more experience than the rookie Josh Allen at the time. It was easy to pull Peterman, who had a short leash. Since key members of the Giants' organization were around for the start of the Allen era in Buffalo, it's worth considering that Brian Daboll's past experience could play a key part in getting Dart on the field quicker than anticipated. "We're not saying that Jaxson Dart is Josh Allen. We're just saying that they can have a plan to go with Russell Wilson. Plans sometimes change. That will depend on Russell Wilson, how well he plays, how much this team wins, and how patient this whole entire organization can be." To Wilson's credit in this situation, he has a ton of past experience. While there is a lot of skepticism surrounding his ability to uplift an offense to be a Super Bowl-contending unit at this stage in his career, the Giants are going in with an open mind and banking on the idea that he still has plenty of gas left in the tank. If the Giants see early on that's not the case, then the plans could change. For the time being, New York wants Dart to learn under Wilson while aiming to compete in a tough NFC East in 2025. Defensive player of the year Patrick Surtain's "main goal" for 2025 is a Super Bowl win

Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain was the best defensive player in football last season. The league honored him with the defensive player of the year award, and PFF recently dubbed Surtain 'the most valuable non-QB in football.' So, how does Surtain top what he did last season? He has an idea, he told reporters at his camp Saturday. 'There's always something out there to do better,' Surtain said, via video from Zac Stevens of DNVR Broncos. 'I mean, why not get another one? Why not get more All-Pros further on into my career, but I think the main goal is to win a Super Bowl. At the end of the day, that's what I play the game for is to win, so I think that's the angle for me.' The Broncos upgraded on defense in free agency after ranking seventh in yards and third in points on defense last season. They signed two former 49ers defenders, safety Talanoa Hufanga and inside linebacker Dre Greenlaw, and drafted cornerback Jahdae Barron with the 20th overall pick. Greenlaw and Hufanga have played in a Super Bowl, so they know what it takes to get there. 'We added some key additions obviously in those guys,' Surtain said. 'They're going to come in and bring that winning atmosphere. They've been at Super Bowls. They know how to win at a high level. So, adding that to our team will only make our team greater.'

Ex-Eagles Star Takes Massive Shot at Commanders' Deebo Samuel

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A key offseason move for the Washington Commanders doesn't move the needle for former Philadelphia Eagles star Brandon Graham. As one prominent streamer by the name of Janky Rondo spoke with confidence about the Commanders heading into next season, mentioning the acquisition of Deebo Samuel as a reason why Washington will take an additional step forward, Graham fired back a massive shot at the versatile wideout. "You know we got Deebo," Graham heard. "I wouldn't worry about him," Graham fired back. "He gotta be in shape first—he don't look like he in shape right now." BG on Deebo Samuel: 'I wouldn't worry about him. He has to get in shape first' 🎥 credit IG: Jankyrondo — Jason Dumas (@JDumasReports) June 28, 2025 Graham made a name for himself as a notorious trash talker throughout his Eagles career. It doesn't come as a surprise that he continues to talk trash off the field, despite calling it a career this offseason. Plus, when it comes to Deebo Samuel and the Eagles, there's a lot of history there dating back to Deebo's days with the San Francisco 49ers. After the Eagles defeated the 49ers in the NFC Championship a few years back, Samuel and the 49ers entered the following year with a chip on their shoulder and dominated Philadelphia during the regular season. It was a heated battle, and Samuel was at the forefront of it all for San Francisco's side. These days, Samuel's Niners days are finished, but he landed on a direct rival of the Eagles. Since the Commanders and the Eagles just battled it out in the NFC Championship this past season, Samuel's rivalry with the Eagles will surely remain in place for the 2025 NFL season. Deebo Samuel Sr. #1 of the San Francisco 49ers in action against the Detroit Lions at Levi's Stadium on December 30, won't get a chance to participate in those two matchups against Washington this season. The former 13th overall pick decided to hang up his cleats. The Eagles landed Graham out of Michigan in 2010. At the time, he was a controversial pick, and struggled to live up to his draft position early on. Eventually, Graham became a notable player on the defensive end of the ball for the Eagles. Before anybody knew it, Graham became a Pro Bowler, All-Pro, and two-time Super Bowl Champion. He played 206 games for the Eagles, registering over 75 sacks and 487 tackles. He might not take the field for the Eagles this year for the first time in over a decade, but Graham is clearly still about his trash-talking ways and downplaying any potential threat or enemy that might try to get in the way of his Eagles.
