It's King Price Derby time, but also the Noordvaal series (cup division), so there's plenty of quality schoolboy rugby to look forward to this weekend.
A number of teams have only had a few days off following the Wildeklawer rugby tournament in Kimberley last week and they're back in action on Saturday.
In the new King Price Derby series there are four hugely exciting matches taking place on Saturday.
Matches in Western and Eastern Cape
Down in the Western Cape, two big rivalries are happening.
In Paarl, Paarl Boys High host Grey College from Bloemfontein at 2pm, while in Stellenbosch Paul Roos Gimnasium host Paarl Gimnasium, the current number one team in the country, also at 2pm.
Boys High have in their coaching ranks the likes of Sean Erasmus and Neil de Bruin, both men who've worked with the Lions in Joburg, while former Irish Test star CJ Stander is also involved in the coaching staff. The Paarl team recently beat Monument from Krugersdorp 85-0.
The last four meetings between Boys High and Grey have all belonged to the boys from Bloemfontein. In their coaching team are the likes of former Boks Wian du Preez and Helgard Muller.
There are also two big derbies in the Eastern Cape. Dale College host Queen's College (3.30pm) and Grey High host Wynberg Boys High (5pm).
Noordvaal matches
In the Noordvaal series upcountry, there are five matches on the go on Saturday.
Transvalia host Rustenburg, Monument entertain EG Jansen, Helpmekaar welcome Noordheuwel, Menlopark take on Nelspruit while Pretoria rivals Garsfontein and Waterkloof clash at the former team's home field.
Garsfontein are currently ranked sixth in the country, while Waterkloof are 20th.
Kickoff times for these matches are not available.

Talks over France, Lions game 'progressing': Benazzi

The French Rugby Federation's vice-president Abdelatif Benazzi said on Thursday informal talks are "progressing" about a game between France and the British and Irish Lions. The teams last met in 1989 with former Les Bleus captain Benazzi eyeing a possible fixture before the invitational touring side head to New Zealand in four years' time. The Lions are currently in Australia, and clinched the series last weekend with one Test to go, on Saturday in Sydney, with a reported 40,000 fans having travelled for the tour. Before this year's series, the Lions played Argentina in Dublin. "It's progressing, but nothing formal," Bennazzi told AFP. "Every four years we see the wave of people and enthusiasm it generates in all countries. "A collaboration with our neighbours, remains something conceivable," the 56-year-old added. Rugby already has a busy schedule but financial problems exist in the sport across the planet with a Nations Cup competition set to begin next July, replacing traditional Test matches between countries. "We have to find a new approach to be able to energise a bit of world rugby's global image," Benazzi said. "We want to find a model that satisfies everyone. "We have to reform because there's the Nations Cup that starts next year. "All of that will be in coordination with all bodies, the players' union in France, the French national league, and the global players' union," the 78-time international added.

PREVIEW: Paarl giants ready for high-stakes derby showdown

Paarl Boys' High and Paarl Gymnasium will meet at Faure Street Stadium on Saturday in what is widely seen as the biggest schools rugby fixture in South Africa. This year's match will be played in front of a packed stadium, with about 20,000 fans expected and many more watching online or on TV. Both teams have had strong seasons, and the game will likely decide which side finishes 2025 as the top performer in school rugby. Paarl Boys', coached by Sean Erasmus, have bounced back well from a difficult 2024 season. They lost 30–8 to Paarl Gym in last year's derby, but have shown big improvements since then. This year, they've won 15 out of 16 games, including a good win over Grey College. Paarl Gym, coached by former Springbok Pieter Rossouw, are unbeaten in 2025. They've played 15 games, winning 13 and drawing two. Their attacking play has been a standout. They've scored 40 points or more in most matches, and centre Markus Muller, who also captains SA Schools, has led the way with some strong performances. Boishaai have built their game on solid defence. They've only conceded 20 or more points in three games this season, which shows they can handle pressure. That defence will be tested on Saturday by one of the most dangerous attacking teams in the country. Both teams have good reasons to believe they can win. Gimmies have been consistent and dangerous on attack, while Boishaai have improved a lot and will be determined to turn the tables after last year's defeat. The stage is set for another big derby between two of South Africa's most famous rugby schools. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211. No let-up as Lions put out strongest side for final Australia Test

British & Irish Lions coach Andy Farrell has made only two changes to his starting team for final Test against Australia on Saturday with his sights firmly focused on sealing a 3-0 series sweep. With the series already won after last week's victory in Melbourne, Farrell resisted the temptation to give squad players a run and said he had selected a team he thought was best able to finish the tour with a third Test win. 'It would mean the world to us, it's something that we promised ourselves that we were going to chase after,' he said on Thursday. 'It's a big ask, but it's something that we're determined to do. This is the best 23 to take the group forward.' Farrell said one of the most pleasing elements of the tour had been the way all the players had bought into the concept of squad unity, regardless of whether they were selected for the Tests or not. 'It touches you, it really does. It touches you in the sense of how much it means to them. For example, you come in after such a big victory on Saturday night [and] the people that were celebrating the most were the guys that hadn't put the shirt on.' Chessum drops to the bench, where Ben Earl comes in as back row cover alongside Jac Morgan with Farrell opting for a 6-2 split in favour of the forwards for what is forecast to be a wet weather Test at Stadium Australia. The starting back row and halfback pairing remain the same for the third consecutive match, while Tadhg Furlong will start his ninth straight Lions Test in the front row. 'It's amazing,' Farrell said of the Irish prop. 'It's been well documented how much he loves playing for the Lions ... and it isn't just the performances that have been through the roof, it's also his manner on a Lions tour as well. 'I've never seen him in such good spirits, so he's ready to go again.' Captain Maro Itoje will start his eighth straight Lions Test having played the first match of the 2017 series in New Zealand off the bench. 'Look at the quality of player they are,' Farrell said. 'Look at the standing that they have with any group that they represent. Those two lads epitomise what it takes to be a top level international player.' Four Lions Tours, and some unforgettable moments along the way... Don't miss the latest episode of The Ultimate Test, available now on the Lions @YouTube channel 🦁 #Lions2025 — British & Irish Lions (@lionsofficial) July 30, 2025 The Wallabies' Rob Valetini will miss the third Test but scrumhalf Nic White has been given a chance to sign off his international career. Flanker Valetini, who missed the first Test with a calf injury, was outstanding as Australia took an early 23-5 lead in last week's second Test but is being 'managed' ahead of two matches against the Springboks in South Africa. 'He's not right this week,' coach Joe Schmidt told a press conference on Thursday. "[The calf] just tightened up so ... it's probably precautionary not playing him this week.' Valetini will be replaced in the back row by Tom Hooper, one of four changes to the starting line-up from the second Test. Tighthead Allan Alaalatoa suffered a shoulder injury last week that could rob the Wallabies of one of their leaders for the rest of the season. Taniela 'Tongan Thor' Tupou brings his considerable bulk into the front row in Alaalatoa's place for his first appearance of the series. White's inclusion at scrumhalf for Jake Gordon was not enforced but gives the 35-year-old a chance to win a 73rd cap before standing down from Test rugby, a decision he announced earlier on Thursday. 'Whitey's got such huge respect inside the squad that it seemed a fitting way for him to finish,' said Schmidt. 'And I'm not a sentimentalist, it's a Test match, and you pick people who are capable of playing that Test match, and we believe that Nick is.' Schmidt has reverted to a 5-3 split in favour of the forwards on the bench, bringing outside back Andrew Kellaway back into the matchday squad for flanker Carlo Tizzano.
