Only Sabahans know state's woes: Masidi

RANAU: The people of Sabah must give full support to the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government because only local leadership understands the real needs of the state as well as the people here. Sabah Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (PGRS) Deputy President and Karanaan PGRS Division Head Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said, as the state election looming, a new mandate must be given to the coalition in order to keep the prosperity going. Masidi highlighted the GRS government's achievements over the past 3 years despite various challenges. He noted that during the Covid-19 pandemic in September 2020, movement restrictions significantly impacted operations, but the government still managed to function effectively for nearly 4 years. He emphasized that the GRS government's achievements in 2 to 3 years were among the best in Sabah's history. Key accomplishments included increased government revenue, record-breaking public savings, and nearly triple the reserves compared to previous administrations.
Advertisement Masidi who is also Sabah's Finance Minister was speaking when officiating the 2025 Annual Conference of the PGRS for the Kundasang, Karanaan and Paginatan Divisions that was held at the Dewan Masyarakat Ranau on Thursday. Regarding infrastructure, particularly water management, Masidi also addressed issues concerning electricity, roads and clean water supplies. He reminded the people that Sabah Electricity is not entirely under the state government, but it is more under the federal's Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB). In regards to the road problem, he said that such problems have also existed during the previous administrations, but today more road network and upgrading has been done, despite not being noticed by the oppositions. Concerning water issues, he explained that previous administration's decisions to terminate water management contracts led to current problems and legal claims totalling around RM300 million in compensation. He announced new developments, including a water treatment plant in Ranau from the Nakamura River that will provide consistent water supply regardless of weather conditions. Towards that end, Masidi emphasized the importance of political stability and professional governance for continued progress. The conference concluded with a call for unity within the party and focus on selecting capable candidates for upcoming elections. He stressed that elections are not beauty contests but rather about choosing hardworking individuals who can drive progress. Incumbents to continue representing GRS in state polls: Joachim

Umno open to post-election cooperation in Sabah: Zahid

Speaking here on Sunday, he said post-state election collaboration among parties was possible, emphasising that political alliances are not permanent and should serve public interest. He made the remarks while officiating the 22nd Libaran Umno Division delegates meeting, where several national and Sabah Umno leaders were also present. Ahmad Zahid urged all parties to prioritise resolving pressing issues faced by the people, particularly the longstanding electricity and clean water supply problems. He said any incoming government must focus on delivering quality public services as a core responsibility to the people. To support development goals, he called for capable and credible leaders to take charge, warning that a stable government cannot be formed with weak leadership. Govt bent on safeguarding Sabah's rights – Anwar
Anwar speaking at the at the closing ceremony of the 2025 National Farmers, Breeders and Fishermen's Day.-Bernama photo KOTA KINABALU (Aug 3): The Federal Government remains determined to safeguard Sabah's rights as the state is an integral part of Malaysia, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim asserted. Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 2025 National Farmers, Breeders and Fishermen's Day here on Sunday, Anwar said the Federal Government will also continue to safeguard the nation's sovereignty against any form of intrusion, whether on land or at sea. He further emphasised that Malaysia is prepared to bring matters concerning Sabah's rights and the country's sovereignty to international court proceedings if necessary. 'Why are we doing this? Because this is our country — Sabah is part of Malaysia. We are spending tens of millions of Ringgit, maybe a hundred million Ringgit, to defend our rights. We will not allow even an inch of our land or sea to be encroached upon. 'Wherever it may be — in the Spanish courts or internationally — we will fight to the maximum to defend Sabah's rights because Sabah is part of Malaysia,' he said. Also present were Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, and his deputy Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup. Anwar said the MADANI Government is committed to driving Sabah's development and resolving demands under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) through various initiatives and allocations, stressing that the relationship between the state and Federal Governments must remain strong. Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said among the resolved matters is the interim special grant for Sabah, which has been increased from RM300 million to RM600 million this year, along with an allocation of RM10 billion to complete the Pan Borneo Highway in Sabah. 'It (Pan Borneo Highway in Sabah) was delayed under the previous government, but we are continuing it under the responsibility of the Federal Government. Maybe it's not visible yet, not completed, but at least we've approved it and the work packages are in progress,' he said. On utilities, Anwar said the Federal Government has given full authority over electricity supply management to the state government, along with continuous subsidies for seven years until 2030 amounting to RM3.54 billion. To address the ongoing water supply issues, the Federal Government has approved an allocation of RM300 million, in addition to handing over projects worth under RM50 million to the state administration.
