A SUPERMARKET own-brand champagne that costs just £15 has been named the best in the world.
The sparkling wine, which hails from the Champagne region of France, is often thought of as a high-end product, unaffordable for many cash-strapped Brits.

However, budget supermarket Aldi has shown that it is possible to live a champagne lifestyle on a lemonade budget.
Aldi's Veuve Monsigny Champagne Brut, which was named the World Best Champagne at the World Champagne Awards is priced at just £14.95.
The penny-pinching friendly drink is a whopping £30 cheaper than prestigious brand Moet, which retails for £45, but despite its budget price tag, it won the favour of experts.
Aldi said: "Crafted to perfection from a classic blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier, and matured in cellars to enhance its complexity and length, Aldi's Veuve Monsigny Champagne Brut is known for its aromas of ripe apple, soft red fruit, and delicate florals - a testament to expert winemaking without the premium price tag."
The purse-friendly bottle triumphed over luxury competitors including G.H. Martel Honoré de Balzac Edition Limitée Brut Champagne, which costs up to 70% more than the Aldi product.
Julie Ashfield, Chief Commercial Officer at Aldi UK: "To have our £14.95 Veuve Monsigny Champagne Brut recognised as the best in the world is proof that exceptional quality doesn't have to come with an eye-watering price tag.
"It's a proud moment not just for Aldi, but for our customers who can enjoy world-class champagne without breaking the bank."
And this isn't the first award that the Aldi champagne has won.
Last year, the drink picked up multiple medals at the International Wine Challenge, Drinks Business Sparkling and Champagne Masters.
The supermarket's wider range of wines, beers and spirits has won over 180 awards this year.
Cheapest supermarket revealed and Wetherspoons axe fan favourite menu item
Aldi has once again been crowned the UK's cheapest supermarket for everyday essentials, beating German rival Lidl.
That's according to new research by consumer group Which?, which compared the price of a typical shop of 82 items across eight major UK supermarkets.
At Aldi, the shop came in at just £135.48 on average – the lowest of the lot.
Lidl followed closely behind, with a near-identical total of £135.79 if using a Lidl Plus loyalty card, or £135.82 without it.
Aldi wine dupes
WHY fork out for an expensive bottle of wine when you can virtually get the same taste, but for less?
Whispering Angel, £17
Aldi dupe: Chassaux Et Fils Atlantique Rosé, £4.99. Or Aldi's Sainte Victoire Provence Rosé, £12.49.
Cali Red by Snoop Dogg, £12/£13
Aldi dupe: The Reprobates Californian Red, £9.99.
Dark Horse Merlot, £10
Aldi dupe: Beachfront Malbec, £6.99
Laurent Perrier Rose champagne, £80
Aldi dupe: Crémant Du Jura, £8.99
Aperol Spritz, £17
Aldi dupe: Aperini Aperitif, £6.99
This makes Lidl just 31p more expensive than Aldi.
The shopping list included branded and own-brand favourites such as Birds Eye peas, Hovis bread, milk and butter.
Reena Sewraz, retail editor at Which?, said: 'Aldi continues to be the UK's cheapest supermarket in our monthly price analysis for May while Lidl has narrowed the gap to just 31p.
'For a bigger list of groceries, Asda continues to be the cheapest supermarket, beating shopping at Tesco with a Clubcard by more than £10."

Aldi calls on parents in Edinburgh to apply for summer voucher support scheme

The UK's fourth-largest supermarket is urging parents in Edinburgh to apply to its Summer Support Scheme, which will see vouchers given away for Aldi shoppers to spend in stores every day over the respective six-week breaks across July and August. Families will be able to use the vouchers to stock up on whatever they need in store – from healthy snacks and cupboard essentials to toys and garden activities from the Specialbuy aisle to keep little ones entertained. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad To apply for the scheme, shoppers simply need to submit their name and email address to [email protected], with one family chosen at random every day of July and August to receive a £50 voucher to redeem in store. Julie Ashfield, Chief Commercial Officer at Aldi UK, said: 'The school holidays can put extra pressure on finances, especially when it comes to keeping children fed, entertained and active during the six-week break. 'As the UK's cheapest supermarket, we don't believe in paying a premium for healthy, quality food and we'll always do what we can to support parents in making their money go further.' The latest initiative forms part of Aldi's wider commitment to supporting families by providing affordable, quality products for parents. Most recently, the supermarket committed to freezing the price of its Mamia First Infant Formula for the remainder of 2025 as formula prices remain at historic highs across the market. Millions of Brits risk losing over £500 from bank account

According to reports, millions of Brits are flushing away over £500 a year by leaving their cash rotting in low-interest 'zombie' bank accounts. New research reveals more than half of UK savers are hoarding their hard-earned cash in zero-interest current accounts. The research, by Opinium for Hargreaves Lansdown, found 56 per cent of savers are putting money in accounts that give them absolutely nothing back – a 20 per cent rise from last year. Oil prices begin to stabilise — Hargreaves Lansdown (@HLInvest) June 26, 2025 67 per cent of 18–34-year-olds admit to stashing savings in current accounts, rather than moving them to proper savings pots. 81 per cent of higher-rate taxpayers and 83 per cent of investors are also making the same mistake. £297bn is currently held in accounts earning no interest – up by about a fifth in a year. £3,365 is the average amount held in current accounts, rising to £10,180 for the highest earners. £114 is what the average saver loses in spending power after one year at 3.5% inflation, or £344 for higher earners. Researchers calculated that if you had the average of £3,365 savings in a current account, and inflation was running at 3.5%, after a year, your money would have the same buying power as £3,251 today – so it would have lost £114 of spending power. But if you moved the cash to a competitive easy-access account, you could earn a return that's higher than inflation. Recommended reading: Sarah Coles, personal finance boss at Hargreaves Lansdown, said: 'You don't have to transfer cash from another account in order to spend it, you just spend as normal – and find yourself eating away at your savings." Ms Coles said: 'With inflation around 3.5%, a household holding £3,365 in a zero-interest account would lose £114 in spending power in just one year.' Those sitting on £10,180 would lose £344 annually – and over five years, £3,365 could shrink by £532. She added: 'These sites let you track everything in one place – and snap up the best rates without drowning in paperwork."
