College basketball analyst Andy Katz ranks MSU outside top 25 in latest preseason poll
College basketball analyst Andy Katz is not particularly high on the Spartans entering next year.
Katz released an updated batch of power rankings for the top 37 teams in all of college basketball, and the Spartans were listed outside of his top 25. Katz had Michigan State ranked at No. 27 on his list.
Among Big Ten teams, Katz has Michigan State as his No. 8 squad from the league. Here's how Katz ranked the Big Ten teams included in his list:
No. 1 - Purdue
No. 5 - Michigan
No. 12 - Oregon
No. 16 - UCLA
No. 17 - Illinois
No. 23 - Wisconsin
No. 25 - USC
No. 27 - Michigan State
No. 29 - Maryland
No. 30 - Ohio State
No. 32 - Indiana
Not ranked: Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Penn State, Rutgers and Washington
Michigan State has typically landed in the No. 15 - 20 range nationally and often no lower than top five in the Big Ten in a number of these similar early preseason rankings. So it's fair to say Katz is on the lower end of the spectrum when it comes to the Spartans for next year.

Teddy Jarrard committed to Notre Dame and then posted one of best verbal videos out there
Notre Dame football has gotten off to a great start in the 2027 recruiting cycle, and on Thursday it got even better at Georgia quarterback Teddy Jarrard committed to the Irish. The rising junior ended the process extremely early, which is big for Notre Dame as he now can help with other prospects who he'd like to see join him. In the 2026 class, the Irish had the same type of early commitment with Noah Grubbs, and that has turned out pretty well. It wasn't all that surprising that Jarrard opted to pick Notre Dame over Georgia, Ohio State, Penn State, and Michigan, as it seemed like destiny that he was going to pick the Irish. In his commitment video, it sure seemed that way. He shared it on social media, and it's one of the better ones that has come out. It starts with him playing pee wee football, then quickly goes to Notre Dame campus while is followed by multiple clips of former and present stars. It concludes with his phone call with his new head coach Marcus Freeman, telling him that he is committing. Check out the full video below, as the Irish secured their 2027 quarterback early and will continue to build on another great class.
