Chelsea defeated 10-man Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 in the Club World Cup final at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, to become the first winner of the newly expanded tournament.
Cole Palmer scored twice in the first half-hour, and Joao Pedro added a third goal before halftime. A thoroughly defeated PSG saw Joao Neves sent off late in the game.
How Chelsea Beat PSG To Win 2025 FIFA Club World Cup?
Thirty-two teams from around the globe entered the competition, but it concluded with an all-European final. PSG, the reigning Champions League winner, defeated Inter Milan 5-0 in that title match. Chelsea, on the other hand, won the third-tier UEFA Conference League in May.
Parts of the stadium thought Chelsea had scored when Cole Palmer's curling effort hit the side netting in the eighth minute. Chelsea wouldn't have wanted that chance to fall to anyone else but Palmer, despite his quiet form in front of goal since the turn of the year.
PSG's first chance fell to Desire Doue, the player of the match in the Champions League final, but he made a mistake. With the ball at his feet and close to goal, he opted to cut it back for Achraf Hakimi, who would have had a tap-in. Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella intercepted, and the chance was lost.
Palmer didn't miss from the same spot in the 22nd minute. He had earlier fired wide from a similar spot, but this time, he curled a low shot that ended up inside the right post. Palmer's superb composure allowed him to thread the shot past the PSG defence and beyond goalkeeper Gianluigi Donarumma.
Joao Pedro made it 3-0 with a delightful flick over goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma in the 43rd minute. Chelsea again exploited PSG's left defence, with a brilliant through ball by Cole Palmer.
PSG's woes were compounded when Joao Neves received a red card in the 83rd minute for pulling Marc Cucurella's hair.

Lewis Hamilton Left Feeling 'Absolutely Useless' After Hungarian GP Qualification

Last Updated: The seven-time F1 champion is yet to win a race since his arrival at Ferrari and had to endure another testing day on the track at the Hungaroring circuit. Ferrari star driver Lewis Hamilton gave a scathing review of his showing at the Hungarian Grand Prix as the Brit ended qualification in 12th place, while teammate Charles Leclerc clinched pole for the race on Sunday. The seven-time F1 champion is yet to win a race since his arrival at Ferrari and had to endure another testing day on the track in the famous red of the Prancing Horse during the qualifications at the Hungaroring. 'I'm useless. Absolutely useless," Hamilton said following his sub-par performance at MogyorOd. 'The team has no problem. You've seen the car on pole so they probably need to change driver," the seven-time F1 World Champion said. Hamilton, a record eight time winner at the Hungaroring would look to end his drought since joining the Italian manufacturer in a blockbuster deal that put him in the cockpit of the fabled Prancing Horse. 'Looking at the whole weekend, I think we're happy to be in Q3 because I've been more outside the top 10 than in it –- so, yeah, it's been difficult this whole weekend," said the Dutch driver. 'No grip, front and rear, and it was the same in qualifying so, for me, it was not really a shock. I just drove to what I already feel the whole weekend." The 27-year-old Dutchman, who declared he was staying with RB up until the year 2026, added that he did not completely comprehend the issues at hand with the car. 'No, clearly not. I mean, otherwise, of course, we would have changed it already, but somehow, this weekend, nothing seems to work." 'From lap one, it just felt off — and we threw the car around a lot and nothing really gave a direction. Now, it's just nothing works. You know, it's like just going around in circles and nothing gives you any kind of idea of what to do," the Red Bull driver continued. 'There may be a few cars in front of me that I can maybe battle with a little bit and, of course, Lewis is still a bit further down the road which, I think, he shouldn't be there right? So, he will come through a bit," Verstappen said in anticipation of raceday in Hungary. view comments First Published: August 03, 2025, 11:29 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. 'Puri Kasar Nikal Di': Shubman Gill, KL Rahul Hail Akash Deep's Batting

Last Updated: Captain Shubman Gill said Akash Deep 'ne saari kasar puri kardi' with his brilliant 66 as a nightwatchman at the Oval. Captain Shubman Gill, senior batter KL Rahul and batting coach Sitanshu Kotak were all effusive in their praise for Akash Deep, who stunned England and lifted India with a 94-ball 66 as a nightwatchman in the Oval Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy on Saturday (August 2). It was the second-highest score for India in the innings and part of a 107-run partnership with opener Yashasvi Jaiswal that played out the entirety of the tricky first session on the third day. With the foundation laid, India went on to score 396/10 in the essay to set a huge target of 374 for the hosts. 'For a long time, there has been this banter between batters and bowlers," Gill told the BCCI in an interview after the day's play. 'The batters keep telling the lower-order batters, karo yaar thoda contribute. I think, i s match mein unhone aage peeche ki puri kasar nikal di (Please contribute a bit, man. I think, in this match, they made up for everything). We had just told him one thing that whatever ball is in your radar, look to score runs. These 66 runs are no less than a century," he added. Kotak had a similar advise for the bowler. 'He was in the lift with me when we reached the hotel. I told him, 'Aakash if you get any ball in your range tomorrow, then go for it and smash. Don't defend compulsorily because you got out defending in the last two innings.' I am so happy to see a fast bowler score an important fifty for us," he said. Rahul, who has emerged as a vocal leader in the squad, was in a jovial mood talking about Akash. 'Most of the chatter is always about the bowlers trying to steal our bats," Rahul said, before adding seriously: 'Just today, I had a brief chat with him to think like a batter and not throw his wicket away." 66 was not only Akash's best Test score but also the highest in his First-Class career. 'Whether I am hit on the body or elsewhere, I'll play': Akash Deep Akash also spoke briefly in the video, revealing his mentality and thoughts the night before. 'When I went to sleep last night, I was thinking I won't get out — a [good] ball can get me out, but I won't throw it. Whether I am hit on the body or elsewhere, I'll play. We needed to play out balls and the partnership of over 100 runs was pretty special. For me, more special than the fifty is playing out two hours for the team," he said. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
