AI Drives Riyadh's Rise as Music Epicenter
Just one week after global icons Kendrick Lamar and Beyoncé made headlines at the 67th GRAMMY Awards, Panos Panay, President of the Recording Academy, flew into Saudi Arabia to deliver a compelling message on the future of the music industry at DeepFest 2025. The world's leading artificial intelligence (AI) conference, which runs alongside the prestigious LEAP tech event, is taking place at the Riyadh International Exhibition and Convention Centre until February 12, 2025.
Panay, who has been visiting the Kingdom for several years, shared his amazement at Riyadh's remarkable transformation. Citing events like Riyadh Music Week and the rapid growth of MDLBEAST, a Saudi-based entertainment company, he made a bold prediction for the future of music in the region.
'I have absolutely no doubt that within the next five years, Riyadh will become the music epicenter of the entire region,' Panay remarked. 'It will be the Los Angeles of the Middle East, undoubtedly.'
As the President of the Recording Academy, Panay also emphasized his mission to amplify the music scene in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region globally. 'There's no area on the planet richer in heritage and musicality than the MENA region,' said Panay. 'With 400 million Arabic speakers, it's only a matter of time before an Arabic star reaches global stardom, much like K-pop has.'
AI and streaming platforms are key factors accelerating this transformation. Panay believes that technological advancements are enabling greater creativity and wider visibility for emerging artists, despite the staggering number of 400,000 new songs being added to Spotify daily.
'It's an overwhelming amount of content, but technology is undoubtedly an enabler,' he noted. 'I'm sure entrepreneurs here are already working on better ways for emerging artists to connect with audiences.'
DeepFest 2025 is bringing together AI innovators and industry leaders from around the world, featuring over 150 speakers and 120 exhibitors. The event, which attracted more than 50,000 participants on its second day, has been a platform for discussing the societal impact of AI and its applications in diverse industries.
Lambert Hogenhout, Chief Data and AI at the United Nations, discussed AI's potential to enhance human productivity, citing examples such as AI-assisted calendar apps and writing tools. He urged those with dystopian views of AI to reconsider, emphasizing how AI could allow society to focus on creativity, fulfillment, and connection.
Dr. Yaser Al Onaizan, CEO of the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), also addressed the event, highlighting the real-world benefits of AI and its transformative potential. 'To be really effective, AI should be invisible,' Al Onaizan stated, underscoring the need for AI to seamlessly support human tasks.
Annabelle Mander, Executive Vice President of Tahaluf, reiterated how AI is reshaping various industries, from entertainment to healthcare, and how DeepFest is highlighting the positive impact of AI in these sectors.
As DeepFest continues through February 12, visitors can expect more insightful discussions on quantum computing, women breaking barriers in the tech industry, and case studies on AI's role in revolutionizing healthcare.
The future of music in Riyadh is just beginning, and AI is playing a crucial role in shaping it.

Egypt's Tactful AI enters new growth phase in the Middle East and Europe after reacquisition by founders

Tactful AI, the Egypt-born startup specializing in AI-powered customer experience solutions, has announced a new chapter in its journey after its founders, Mohamed El-Masry & Mohammed Hassan, reacquired full ownership of the company. In 2022, the company was acquired by Dstny, a leading European provider of business communication tools. The acquisition was part of Dstny's strategy to expand into AI-powered CX. However, following a strategic decision, El-Masry has now reacquired the company, positioning Tactful AI to pursue an independent growth path with renewed focus on regional and international expansion — starting in the Middle East (particularly Saudi Arabia and the UAE) and extending into the UK and Western Europe. Over the past three years, Tactful AI has invested more than $5 million to develop its proprietary AI technology — culminating in the launch of what is considered the first Egyptian-developed AI product tailored specifically for customer experience (CX) management. the platform is already being deployed in key markets in the Middle East and Europe, helping enterprises in retail, e-commerce, hospitality, and finance deliver smarter, faster, and more personalised customer interactions. "We're proud to lead from Egypt and prove that globally competitive AI technology can be built in the region," said Mohamed El-Masry, Co-Founder and CEO of Tactful AI. With development centers in Cairo and Cambridge, Tactful AI is committed to local innovation with global standards. The company is actively investing in research and development to enhance its AI capabilities and maintain a competitive edge in international markets. "We are not just building software — we are redefining how customer experience is delivered across the Arab region," El-Masry added. "This reacquisition marks a turning point for Tactful AI, and we're just getting started." Saudi VC Market Surges Past 2024 Total in Six Months

Saudi Arabia has attracted SR3.2 billion in venture capital funding for startups during the first half of 2025, overtaking the Kingdom's total VC investment for the whole of 2024. MAGNiTT data show Saudi accounted for 56 per cent of all VC inflows into the Middle East and North Africa region in that period. Investor confidence in the Kingdom is heightened by its alignment with Vision 2030 reforms and concerted government backing. The 114 venture capital deals completed in H1 represent a record for Saudi Arabia, underscoring robust market momentum. This performance marks a 116 per cent annual increase in dollars invested compared with H1 of 2024, and a 31 per cent jump in the total number of deals year‑on‑year. The Kingdom's dominance is even more pronounced considering the UAE, its closest competitor, secured only $447 million across an identical number of transactions. ADVERTISEMENT Fintech continues to lead the investment wave, with payment and lending platforms drawing substantial capital. Yet new segments such as enterprise software and edtech are emerging rapidly, supported by local VC funds and international investors chasing mid-stage opportunities. A premium MAGNiTT report highlighted that Saudi Arabia surpassed both the UAE and Singapore during the first quarter. Early- and growth-stage funding increased significantly, buoyed by local investors and sovereign capital rolling out fresh programmes and accelerators. The government's role is clearly evident. Public investment vehicles such as Saudi Venture Capital Company continue to provide foundational support. SVC's CEO, Dr Nabeel Koshak, emphasised this intervention: 'The Kingdom's leading position…comes as a result of many governmental initiatives…launched to stimulate the VC and startups ecosystem within the Saudi Vision 2030 programmes. We at SVC are committed to continuing to lead the development of the ecosystem'. Sovereign-led schemes including LEAP and a series of early-stage programmes funded by the state have helped attract both domestic and overseas capital. MAGNiTT noted the interplay between public-sector drive and private-sector participation as a key factor behind the surge. Growth-stage rounds are now dominating the landscape. Local funds have broadened their spectrum, actively backing Series A and B startups. International investors are following suit, particularly in fintech and enterprise solutions tailored to market-specific needs. Comparatively, Singapore led emerging markets with $1.28 billion across 120 deals in H1, yet its funding volume fell by 37 per cent year‑on‑year and deal numbers declined 31 per cent. This contrast points to Saudi's sustained upward trajectory amid weakening growth elsewhere. Other emerging markets in the MENA and adjacent regions lagged behind: Türkiye raised $226 million, Vietnam $216 million, Egypt $185 million, among others.

Oman: Sezad launches Duqm Summer Series for tenant community

Duqm: The Special Economic Zone at Duqm (Sezad) is launching four focused sessions throughout August that tackle questions its tenant community is grappling with - how to implement AI effectively, build resilient supply chains, develop adaptive workforces and create workplace cultures where people want to stay and grow. The Duqm Summer Series (DSS) recognises that 2025 demands something more substantive than the usual business event formula. Rather than generic presentations that promise transformation but deliver little you can use, these sessions bring together people who've done the work to share strategies they've actually implemented. 'Our tenant community operates in a fast-moving business environment where practical experience matters more than theoretical frameworks,' said Eng. Ahmed Akaak, CEO, Sezad. 'The four DSS sessions feature speakers who've successfully navigated the challenges they're discussing – people who can share not just what worked, but how they made it work and what obstacles they encountered along the way.' The opening session on 5 August tackles artificial intelligence and automation. Rather than another presentation on ChatGPT's potential, attendees will hear from those who've moved beyond experimentation to actual deployment, complete with the messy realities of workforce transitions and the ethical considerations that emerge when algorithms start making decisions previously reserved for humans. The second session on 12 August explores workforce development through the lens of organisations that have successfully balanced talent growth with cultural continuity. Rather than broad leadership theories, the discussion centres on practical approaches to developing people while maintaining the elements that make them want to stay and advance – particularly important in a region where retaining skilled professionals can determine an operation's success. By 19 August, the conversation turns to global trade and supply chains. Duqm's strategic location between Europe, Asia and Africa means little if businesses can't effectively navigate the complexities of modern logistics. This session brings together those who've learned to manage risk and diversify suppliers through the hard-won experience of keeping operations running during disruptions. The final session on 26 August addresses workplace culture and well-being, topics that might have seemed soft five years ago but now represent fundamental business imperatives. The discussion moves beyond wellness buzzwords to examine how companies are creating genuine connection and supporting mental health in ways that actually improve both performance and retention. Each session starts at 1:00pm and runs for an hour at Sezad's headquarters, respecting the reality that busy professionals need events that deliver value within clear time constraints. The format combines expert presentations with interactive discussions, creating an environment for meaningful exchanges between industries. 'Duqm's strength lies in the diversity of industries operating here, from renewables and manufacturing to fisheries and logistics,' remarked Eng. Akaak. 'When a logistics manager learns supply chain strategies from someone in fisheries, or a renewable energy company shares workforce solutions with manufacturing executives, that's when real innovation happens. DSS sessions are designed to make these connections happen. We're bringing together professionals who have practical experience to share and real challenges to solve.' © Muscat Media Group Provided by SyndiGate Media Inc. (
