Prithvi Shaw has been granted No Objection Certificate by the Mumbai Cricket Association to leave the state team.
Prithvi Shaw has obtained a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) with the opener set to join a new team for the upcoming domestic season.
'The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) would like to inform that cricketer Prithvi Shaw had formally requested a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to represent another state as a professional player in the upcoming domestic season. After due consideration, the MCA has granted the NOC," news agency PTI quoted MCA as saying.
MCA Secretary Abhay Hadap lauded Shaw for his contribution to Mumbai cricket.
'Prithvi Shaw has been an exceptional talent and has contributed significantly to Mumbai cricket. We respect his decision and wish him the very best in his future endeavours," Hadap said.
In a letter to the MCA, Shaw stated his desire to move on from Mumbai having been dropped midway through the Ranji Trophy season last December on fitness issues.
'I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) for the valuable opportunities and unwavering support extended to me during my time representing the association. It has truly been an honour and a privilege to be part of the MCA setup, and I am deeply grateful for the exposure and experience I have gained here," he wrote.
Shaw explained why he wishes to join a new team.
'At this juncture in my career, I have been presented with a promising opportunity to play professional cricket under another State Association, which I believe will further contribute to my growth and development as a cricketer.
'In light of this, I kindly request you to issue me a No Objection Certificate (NOC) that will enable me to officially represent the new State Association in the upcoming domestic season," he said.
Shaw's playing career has been hit by inconsistency, disciplinary concerns and fitness issues.
After being dropped from the Ranji squad, Shaw last played for Mumbai in the final of the premier domestic tournament Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy and wasn't considered for the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Star India Athlete Suffers 'Freak' Injury In Big Blow To World Championship Hopes

Asian champion and national record holder 100m hurdler Jyothi Yarraji has suffered a "freak" knee injury while training a "few days back", in a big blow to her World Championships hopes later this year. Yarraji, also an Asian Games silver medallist, has a high chance of qualifying for the World Championships in Tokyo in September. However, the recent injury could derail those ambitions. "Due to an unfortunate injury to my knee during training a few days back, I've had to put a pause on my season," Yarraji, who holds the national record of 12.78 second, posted on her Instagram story on Wednesday. "I'm working with my medical team to assess my options and take a decision on the way forward," said the 25-year-old who came back this season after suffering injury after the Paris Olympics last year. Her coach James Hillier told PTI that the injury was "pretty bad" and they were assessing options. "Unfortunately, she picked up a freak injury to her knee in training. It's pretty bad so we are assessing our options at the moment," he said, without elaborating on the options. Yarraji is yet to breach the direct qualification time of 12.73 second but her 12.96 second effort while winning gold in the Asian Championships in May has put her among the 16 athletes who can make it to the World Championships through the world rankings. She is currently at the 12th spot among those who can make it to the World Championships through world ranking quota but will need to maintain her spot by competing in events. Athletes can qualify for the World Championships in two ways -- direct entry by breaching the qualification mark or through world ranking quota. The qualification window is till August 24. Yarraji suffered a hip flexor injury during training in Finland after the 2024 Paris Olympics, impacting her training stint. At the start of the 2025 season, she tweaked her technique, switching from a seven-stride approach to her original eight-stride approach, which she believes will reduce injury risk. "Injuries are part of an athlete's journey and I'm viewing this as just another hurdle I'm going to overcome soon with all your support and blessings. I'll be back stronger," she said. She won gold in 100m hurdles and 200m race in the Uttarakhand National Games in February, bagged the top spot in the 100m hurdles in the Federation Cup before defending her Asian Championships title. Her last title was in the Taiwan Athletics Open on June 7.

Manolo Marquez steps down as India coach after mutual agreement with AIFF

Manolo Marquez has been let go as the India coach after a disastrous run of results after taking over from Igor Stimac. Marquez was appointed as the coach of the men's team in June 2024 and oversaw eight games in charge of the Blue Tigers. During this time, India won just one match, which was a 3-0 friendly win over the Maldives in a friendly in decision comes weeks after India's humiliating 1-0 loss to Hong Kong China in their 2027 AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers campaign on June 10. M. Satyanarayanan, the acting general secretary said that after discussions it was mutually agreed that the AIFF and Marquez agreed that he shouldn't continue as the coach. Satyanarayanan said that AIFF will advertise for the post of head coach soon. "The AIFF and Manolo decided to mutually part ways without any financial implications to any of the two parties. So, he is relieved from being India coach. The AIFF will shortly advertise for the post of head coach," AIFF Deputy Secretary General K Satyanarayana told PTI. Marquez stint got criticism right from the beginning, as he was managing FC Goa and the Indian team simultaneously, at least until the end of last season. During this time, India never really got off to a good start as Marquez found it tough to stamp his authority on the national side. This saw the Blue Tigers draw against Bangladesh and even lose to Hong Kong China. advertisementAccording to a report from PTI, Marquez had expressed his decision to leave the role ahead of the Hong Kong China game, but couldn't find an agreement with the AIFF. The recent loss to Hong Kong China has left India in big trouble and on the verge of missing out on the AFC Asian Cup 2027. Marquez' tenure of one year is the shortest amongst Indian coaches in the last decade with Stephen Constantine and Igor Stimac serving for more than five years. - Ends

Gautam Gambhir's 'fixation' will 'never work', head coach badgered by former India and Australia cricketers

India's XI for the second Test against England at Edgbaston in Birmingham has T20 cricket written all over it. Two all-rounders replacing a specialist batter and a pacer who can who can bat a bit, left India with only five designated batters and three specialist bowlers. Having batters till No.8 and six bowling options has been India head coach Gautam Gambhir's template. It has worked for him in white-ball cricket, especially in T20s. Be it the IPL or international cricket, Gambhir's fondness for all-rounders has brought results. But the same style has hurt him in Test cricket. It did against New Zealand at home. Then in Australia, and if India don't get the desired result in Edgbaston, England will be added to that list. Indian captain Shubman Gill and coach Gautam Gambhir during a practice session(PTI) After choosing a predictable XI for the series opener in Birmingham, which they lost by five wickets despite dominating the match for a better period, India pressed the panic button. They rang in three changes. One of them was, of course, due to Jasprit Bumrah's workload management. The other two can be credited to Gambhir's 'fixation' for all-rounders. Calling India's selection "baffling," former Australia all-rounder Tom Moody said packing the team with all-rounders has never worked in Test cricket. India vs England Live Score, 2nd Test "India's selection for this test is baffling. No Bumrah is one thing, but to only have 5 specialist batsmen is a gamble. The fixation on all-rounders who are there to offer depth with bat and ball has never worked. Specialists are always going to offer more over a test," Moody wrote on X. India replaced Jasprit Bumrah with pacer Akash Deep and brought in seam-bowling all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy in place of Shardul Thakur, and the third change was another surprising one. They dropped Sai Suidharsan, who batted at No.3 on is Test debut in Headingley, made way for Washington Sundar. Sudharsan was caught down the leg side for a duck in the first innings but played a decent knock in the second. Former India batter Subramanium Badrinath said it was a harsh call to drop a youngster after just one Test. "Sai scored a crucial 30 and was involved in an important partnership in the second innings. Dropping a youngster high on confidence doesn't feel right," Badrinath wrote on X. The selection of Sundar was a strange one in more than one way. After the assistance that Ravindra Jadeja got on Day 5 of the first Test from the rough created on the left-hander's off stump on a placid Headingley pitch, the chorus to include Kuldeep Yadav as the lead spinner grew, especially considering the conditions at Birmingham, the venue for the second Test. Ever since the advent of Bazball cricket, Edgbaston has produced some of the flattest tracks that naturally tend to offer something to the spinner towards the end of the five-day affair. India, however, did not pick Kuldeep and went with Washington Sundar as their second spin-bowling option. Captain Shubman Gill said it was due to batting depth.
