Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan requests Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to consider establishment of terminal market complex in Sambhalpur
In a post on X, Pradhan wrote that the establishment would serve as a transformative step in strengthening horticulture value chains, improving farmer incomes, reducing post-harvest losses, and providing a modern market ecosystem for the region.
'Met my senior colleague Shri @ChouhanShivraj ji who is working assiduously to improve the lives of our farmers. Requested his kind consideration for the establishment of a Terminal Market Complex in Sambalpur. This will serve as a transformative step in strengthening horticulture value chains, improving farmer incomes, reducing post-harvest losses and providing a modern market ecosystem for the region,' the post read.
Earlier today, Pradhan met the Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav to discuss several environmental issues related to his Lok Sabha Constituency of Sambalpur, Odisha.
Member of Parliament (MP) from Sambalpur, Dharmendra Pradhan, requested the intervention of the Environment Minister in the expansion and upgradation of Sambalpur Zoo to the 'Medium Zoo' category. This expansion would facilitate the induction of new species and the development of educational and research facilities.
He also urged for Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary to get the Tiger Reserve status, which will promote tiger conservation in the region and give a boost to tourism.
Dharmendra Pradhan also requested the Environment Minister Yadav's attention to the urgent need for the development of Nagar Vans in the industrial belt of Sambalpur-Jharsuguda-Brajrajnagar, the coal belt of Angul-Dhenkanal, and the heat-affected region of Titilagarh-Bolangir of Odisha under the Nagar Van Yojana (NVY).In alignment with the Government's vision of 'One Earth, Many Efforts,' as articulated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the establishment of Nagar Vans in urban clusters is aimed at ensuring environmental sustainability and community well-being.
In June 2022, PM Modi launched the 'Lifestyle for the Environment - LiFE Movement' with the vision of 'One Earth, Many Efforts'. The Nagar Van Yojana was launched by the Ministry for Environment, Forest and Climate Change in 2020, with an aim to develop 400 Nagar Vans and 200 Nagar Vatikas. The objective of the scheme is to enhance the tree outside forests and green cover, enhancement of biodiversity and ecological benefits to the urban and peri-urban areas.
In September 2024, Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav highlighted the creation of 3,776 hectares of Nagar Van and Vatikas under the scheme in 64 National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) cities with Rs 142 crore sanctioned, encouraging other cities to utilise this scheme to develop green spaces. Bihar CM Nitish Kumar Emerges As Key Contender In Vice Presidential Succession Race Following Dhankhar's Exit
The unexpected departure of Jagdeep Dhankhar from the Vice Presidency has triggered immediate speculation about potential successors, with constitutional requirements mandating that replacement elections occur with minimal delay. Dhankhar's abrupt resignation on July 21, 2025, citing medical concerns, has left India's second-highest constitutional office vacant and political circles buzzing with candidate possibilities. Among the emerging frontrunners, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar represents perhaps the most intriguing possibility despite initial appearances of being an unlikely choice. Political observers and NDA allies, including Upendra Kushwaha, have suggested that Kumar might consider stepping down from his current role to allow generational transition in Bihar politics. This speculation gains credence from Union Minister Chirag Paswan's announcement regarding his intentions to contest upcoming Bihar elections, potentially creating space for Kumar's graceful transition to national office. Kumar's lengthy tenure as Bihar's chief minister positions him as someone seeking an honorable exit strategy while maintaining political relevance at the national level. His experience and regional influence could make him an attractive candidate for the ruling coalition, particularly given his established relationships within the NDA framework. Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena emerges as another significant contender, despite serving only three years in his current position. The 67-year-old former corporate executive has been subject to persistent speculation about advancement to higher office, with sources suggesting preparations for a "bigger assignment." Saxena's tenure in Delhi has been marked by significant political influence, particularly in his interactions with the AAP government. His administrative approach has involved blocking various policy initiatives and appointment decisions by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's government, extending from Delhi Jal Board matters to broader governance issues. Political analysts suggest that Saxena's confrontational style with the Delhi administration played a role in shaping public perception battles that ultimately affected Kejriwal's political standing. Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha presents another compelling option, with his current tenure concluding on August 6, creating perfect timing for potential elevation. The 66-year-old former railway minister brings extensive BJP experience from Uttar Pradesh and has overseen the sensitive post-Article 370 transition period in the union territory. Sinha's supporters credit him with providing stability during a crucial period following the constitutional changes in Jammu and Kashmir. However, his tenure concludes amid security challenges, including the recent Pahalgam terror incident that resulted in multiple civilian casualties, which could influence his candidacy prospects. The constitutional mandate for swift election proceedings means that official announcements and candidate selections will likely occur rapidly. Each potential candidate brings distinct advantages and political considerations that will factor into the ruling coalition's decision-making process. The selection process will ultimately depend on various political calculations, including regional representation, experience levels, and alignment with current government priorities. As speculation continues, these three names represent the most credible possibilities for succeeding Dhankhar in India's Vice Presidency.

Congress MP moves adjournment motion notice in LS to discuss SIR in Bihar
New Delhi, July 23 (UNI) Congress MP Manickam Tagore today submitted an adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha, demanding an urgent discussion in the Monsoon Session of Parliament, on what he described as a 'blatant and unconstitutional attempt' to deny voting rights to the poor, backward, Dalit, and marginalised communities in Bihar through the Election Commission's Special Investigation Report (SIR) mechanism. In his notice under Rule 56 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Lok Sabha, Tagore accused the Modi government of misusing the Election Commission to disenfranchise vulnerable sections of society—a move he said amounts to a violation of the fundamental right to vote enshrined in the Constitution and envisioned by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. 'That this House do adjourn to discuss the dangerous and unconstitutional moves by the Modi Government to use the Election Commission as a tool to systematically disenfranchise the poor, backward, Dalit, and marginalized communities in Bihar by means of the SIR (Special Investigation Report) mechanism, thereby violating the fundamental right to vote granted by the Constitution, as envisioned by Babasaheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar,' his letter to the Speaker stated. The Congress leader likened the alleged voter purging to 'colonial practices,' where suffrage was limited to the elite. 'This calculated disenfranchisement is reminiscent of a time when only the rich and property-owning classes could vote, while the masses were excluded,' he said. He further alleged that the ruling dispensation was exhibiting a 'Manuwadi mindset' aimed at reversing the gains of social justice and universal adult franchise. 'Under the guise of verifying voter identity and eligibility, official machinery is being misused to strike lakhs of poor voters—particularly from Dalit and backward communities—off the electoral rolls in Bihar. This is not an isolated incident, but part of a larger, disturbing pattern to manipulate the electoral process in favour of the ruling party by excluding sections of society that do not support them politically,' Tagore wrote. He stressed that the right to vote is the cornerstone of Indian democracy, and any attempt to curtail this right amounts to a direct attack on the Constitution. UNI XC AAB
