Chamarajanagar prepares for Chamrajeshwara Swamy Rathotsav

Time of India09-07-2025
Mysuru: The Chamarajanagar district administration has made final preparations for the Chamrajeshwara Swamy Rathotsav, which will be held during the auspicious Kanya Lagna between 11.30am and 12.15pm in Chamarajanagar on Thursday.
The car festival at the border town will take place in the Hindu month of Aashada, which is considered inauspicious. This festival is famous among newly married couples, as thousands of them will arrive from various parts of the state, including neighbouring Tamil Nadu, to offer Hannu Javana to the Chamarajeshwara Utsava Murthy along the car street.
The temple has a history of 200 years. It is the only temple that conducts car festivals during Aashada. Mysuru Maharaja Mummadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar built the Chamarajeshwara Temple in 1826 in memory of his father, Maharaja Chamaraja Wadiyar.
Devotees will pull the chariot along the car street after Mysuru Royal Scion Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar offers puja to the chariot's Utsava Murthy.

Thailand-Cambodia clashes: MEA urges ‘end to hostilities'; issues helpline numbers for Indian travellers

The deadly clashes between Thailand and Cambodia entered its third day on Saturday, with residents of the bordering villages fled to safer locations to escape the fighting. India on Saturday issued an advisory, asking its citizens in Cambodia to avoid travelling to border areas. "In view of the ongoing clashes at the Cambodia-Thailand border, Indian nationals are advised to avoid travelling to the border areas," the Indian embassy in Cambodia said in an X post. Later on Saturday, the Ministry of External Affairs also issued a statement that it is closely monitoring the situation along the border between Cambodia and Thailand. 'India has close and friendly relations with both countries and hopes that both sides will take measures for a cessation of hostilities and prevention of further escalation,' the MEA statement said. The ministry also advised Indian travellers in the region to contact the Indian Embassies in the two countries for any assistance. Below are the helpline numbers: Both countries traded fresh accusations on Saturday as deadly border clashes continued, leaving at least 33 dead and more than 1,68,000 displaced. Even as international pressure to reach a ceasefire mounted on both countries, artillery fire and gunshots were reported near several border villages. According to an AP report, Saturday's fresh attacks have expanded the area of the fighting that flared again on Thursday after a land mine explosion along the border wounded five Thai soldiers. Officials of both the countries have claimed to have acted in retaliation. Both countries have also recalled their ambassadors as Thailand closed its northeastern border crossings with Cambodia. Cambodian authorities reported on Saturday 12 new deaths, bringing its toll to 13, while Thai officials said a soldier was killed, raising the deaths to 20, mostly civilians, the AP report said. Thailand and Cambodia are locked in a bitter dispute over the Emerald Triangle, a border region where the two countries meet Laos. The area is home to several ancient temples, including the Prasat Ta Muen Thom temple, near which clashes broke out early Thursday. The ancient Preah Vihear temple in Cambodia has also been the site of some of the most prominent and violent past conflicts between the countries. Prasat Preah Vihear and Prasat Ta Muen Thom, both Khmer-era Hindu temples about 95 miles apart, are two of the key sites where tensions flared on Thursday. Prasat Ta Muen Thom is reportedly on the Thai side of the border, and Prasat Preah Vihear is on the Cambodian side of the border. Both countries claim ownership of these disputed sites. 'These 7 places in Thailand not recommended': India issues travel advisory

Tensions between Thailand and Cambodia flared on Thursday over a long-standing border dispute. In light of the conflict, the Indian embassy in Thailand issued a travel advisory urging Indian nationals to avoid certain areas near the Thailand-Cambodia border. The Thai interior minister said that more than 100,000 people from border provinces have been affected by the conflict, claiming the lives of 14 people. (Reuters) In a post on its official X handle, the Indian embassy wrote, 'In view of the situation near the Thailand-Cambodia border, all Indian travelers to Thailand are advised to check updates from Thai official sources, including TAT Newsroom.' Attaching a post from the Tourism Authority of Thailand Newsroom, the embassy said that the 7 provinces mentioned in the link are not recommended for travelling. The list of seven provinces shared by the Tourism Authority of Thailand included Ubon Ratchathani, Surin, Sisaket, Buriram, Sa Kaeo, Chanthaburi and Trat. It also mentioned areas in these provinces that are to be avoided. The restricted areas included Phanom Swai Forest Park, Chong Sai Taku, Ta Phraya NP and Chong Sa-ngam. Meanwhile, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) also said that, due to recent cross-border security incidents along the Thailand–Cambodia border, the Royal Thai Army has temporarily closed several border checkpoints and nearby tourist areas to ensure public safety and national security. The Thai interior minister said earlier that more than 100,000 people from border provinces have been affected by the conflict, claiming the lives of 14 people. The current conflict is an escalation of the border dispute between the two nations. In 2013, the UN court settled the matter for over a decade, but the crisis erupted again after a Cambodian soldier was killed in May in a new clash. Thailand also expelled the Cambodian ambassador and recalled its envoy.
