Grandeur marks Cheera Saare Mahotsavam

Banaganapalle: The revered saree offering festival (Cheera Saare Mahotsavam) at the sacred Sri Chowdeshwari Devi temple in Nandavaram, Banaganapalle Mandal of Nandyal district, was celebrated with grandeur and devotion on Friday. The event, held on the auspicious occasion of Aashada Friday, commenced at 10:30 am amidst vibrant traditional music, kolatam, and chekka bhajan performances by enthusiastic devotees. B C Indiraamma, wife of the Roads and Buildings Minister BC Janardhan Reddy, graced the occasion and presented a ceremonial saree to the Goddess. The procession began from the Sri Chennakesava Swamy temple, accompanied by Sri Devi and Bhoo Devi idols, and proceeded through the village to the main temple. It culminated at the sanctum sanctorum of Sri Chowdeshwari Devi by 1 pm, where the symbolic saree offering was made. Cultural performances along the procession route captivated the gathered devotees, reflecting the region's deep-rooted spiritual and cultural traditions. A large number of women devotees actively participated, carrying sarees from their homes and offering them to the Goddess as a token of devotion. The event was organised under the supervision of temple assistant commissioner Srinivasa Reddy and Temple Development Committee Chairman P.V. Kumar Reddy. Devotees were also served prasadam and meals by the temple annadanam wing and Arya Vysya community volunteers. Speaking on the occasion, B C Indiraamma said she had offered prayers to the Goddess for peace, prosperity and happiness for all people. She emphasised that offering sarees and prayers during the auspicious Aashada month brings divine blessings, health and longevity.

Chamundi Hill sees overwhelming crowd on Aashada Friday

Mysuru: Chamundi Hill witnessed an overwhelming influx of devotees on the third Aashada Friday, with over two lakh visitors arriving by afternoon. This led to long queues, exhausted pilgrims and serious crowd control issues. Thousands of devotees, including the elderly and children, were seen standing in serpentine queues for hours under the sun, many visibly distressed. The devotees who came in for Dharma Darshana at 3.30am had Darshana only after 11am. The situation was particularly tense at the VIP entrance, where police struggled to manage the rush, and unauthorised entry by non-VIPs led to confusion and congestion. The arrangements drew sharp criticism, with devotees lashing out at authorities for poor planning, lack of basic facilities and inadequate crowd management. In a dramatic development, city police commissioner Seema Latkar, accompanied by deputy commissioner Lakshmikant Reddy, visited the hilltop and questioned Sri Chamundeshwari Kshetra Development Authority secretary Roopa. Following mounting reports of mismanagement, DC Reddy conducted an emergency inspection along with senior police officials. He acknowledged the hardships faced by devotees. "By Friday afternoon, nearly 2 lakh devotees gathered, which led to temporary disruption. Those waiting in queues suffered inconvenience, but immediate corrective steps were taken, and the situation was brought under control." Despite the chaos, darshan continued throughout the day, with many devotees finally able to catch a glimpse of Goddess Chamundeshwari after hours of waiting.

Chamarajanagar prepares for Chamrajeshwara Swamy Rathotsav

Mysuru: The Chamarajanagar district administration has made final preparations for the Chamrajeshwara Swamy Rathotsav, which will be held during the auspicious Kanya Lagna between 11.30am and 12.15pm in Chamarajanagar on Thursday. The car festival at the border town will take place in the Hindu month of Aashada, which is considered inauspicious. This festival is famous among newly married couples, as thousands of them will arrive from various parts of the state, including neighbouring Tamil Nadu, to offer Hannu Javana to the Chamarajeshwara Utsava Murthy along the car street. The temple has a history of 200 years. It is the only temple that conducts car festivals during Aashada. Mysuru Maharaja Mummadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar built the Chamarajeshwara Temple in 1826 in memory of his father, Maharaja Chamaraja Wadiyar. Devotees will pull the chariot along the car street after Mysuru Royal Scion Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar offers puja to the chariot's Utsava Murthy.

Yaduveer inspects facilities atop Chamundi Hills ahead of Aashada Friday

Mysuru: A day ahead of the second Friday in the Hindu month of Aashada, during which over 1.5 lakh devotees are expected to throng the Chamundi Hills to have darshan of Goddess Chamundeshwari at Sri Chamundeshwari Temple, Mysuru MP Yaduveer Wadiyar visited the pilgrimage site and inspected the facilities provided to the devotees. Following public complaints of mismanagement during the first Aashada Friday on June 27, the MP reviewed the arrangements at the temple and inspected facilities in place for devotees. His inspection covered areas designated for Rs 2,000 special darshan tickets, Rs 300 tickets, and general darshan. Yaduveer held discussions with Sri Chamundeshwari Kshetra Development Authority secretary Roopa and instructed officials to immediately address the issues raised by devotees. He expressed concern over the Rs 2,000 ticket system, which has drawn criticism from the public. "Darshan of the Goddess must be accessible to all, not just to those who can afford special tickets," he said. He emphasised the need to revise the ticketing system and ensure fairness and inclusivity in temple access. While acknowledging that crowding and minor inconveniences are natural during peak seasons, Yaduveer urged the authorities to improve arrangements and ensure a smoother experience for all pilgrims.

CM instructs officials to release water from dams for irrigation

Mandya: CM Siddaramaiah on Monday instructed officials concerned to release water from dams for irrigation, enabling farmers to begin cultivation. "Most dams in the state are full. Let's not delay the release of water for irrigation," he said after offering baagina to River Cauvery at KRS Dam near Mysuru. While he asked the officials to release water to farmers through canals, he also clarified that Karnataka has already released 42 TMC of water to Tamil Nadu, far exceeding the 9.1 TMC required as of June as per the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal order. This indicates that providing water for irrigation will not attract any opposition from the lower riparian state of TN. He said Rs 25,000 crore was allocated for the water resources department to help the farming community, while Rs 19,000 crore was extended in pumpset subsidies. He countered opposition claims of financial mismanagement. Recalling the criticism during last year's drought, he said, "The opposition leaders claimed that my tenure was unlucky. But today, we have good rain and a strong agricultural outlook." He also announced Rs 3,000 crore for the Cauvery Neeravari Nigam Limited. Siddaramaiah, along with deputy CM DK Shivakumar and district minister Cheluvarayaswamy, conducted various pujas as part of the ritual to offer baagina to River Cauvery. This tradition, started by former CM Devaraja Urs in 1979, is followed when the dam reaches its maximum capacity—a feat achieved 76 times in its 93-year history. Siddaramaiah now equals Urs in having offered baagina four times. As this is the first time in history after the construction of the KRS Dam that the dam has reached its maximum capacity in the month of June, Siddaramaiah now holds the record of offering puja for the first time to the river in June. He asked the officials to mark the rare occasion by installing a memorial stone at KRS Dam. Remarkably, this is the first time the ritual was performed in the Hindu month of Aashada, said priest Bhanu Prakash Sharma, as the dam typically fills during the Hindu months of Shravana or Bhadrapada. The Brindavan Gardens and dam premises were specially decorated for the event.
