‘Anak' singer Freddie Aguilar dies at 72

According to The Manila Times, Aguilar passed away at around 1.30am at the Philippine Heart Center. He was known for his international hit 'Anak', which became the best-selling Philippine music record of all time, with over 33 million copies sold worldwide. The song is also notable for being the only Filipino track translated into 51 languages. It not only topped the Philippine charts but also reached No 1 in Japan and gained popularity in countries such as Malaysia, Hong Kong, and parts of Europe. By some estimates, the song has been recorded in as many as 100 versions across 23 languages. Aguilar began his musical journey as a street performer in 1973 and rose to international fame following the release of 'Anak' in 1978.

Kota Kinabalu: The 25th Kundasang Cabbage Festival is expected to draw over 20,000 visitors to the Ranau district, said the Festival Organising Committee Chairman, Datuk Japiril Suhaimin. He expressed confidence following the recent announcement of an additional public holiday on Sept 15, by the Prime Minister. 'The festival will take place at the Pentas Budaya Kundasang, within the Kundasang town area, from Sept 13 to 16, this year. 'Based on previous years, we recorded between 15,000 and 20,000 visitors over the four-day period. With the additional holiday this time around, I believe the number will be even higher,' he said after paying a courtesy call on Head of State Tun Musa Aman, at Istana Seri Kinabalu. He said the visit was to extend an official invitation to Musa to officiate the opening of the festival. According to him, highlights of the festival will include an awards ceremony for outstanding farmers in agriculture and tourism, as well as exhibitions featuring vegetables grown in Kundasang. Sean Combs' lawyers offer US$50m bail to move him to house arrest

The attorneys argued that Combs poses neither a flight risk nor a danger to the public. Under the proposal, submitted on Tuesday, the 55-year-old would remain confined to his Miami residence and leave only for court appearances. Previous release requests have been denied by the presiding judge. Combs was arrested in New York in September 2024 on multiple sexual offence charges. In a high-profile trial earlier this month, a jury found him partially guilty, convicting him only on charges related to prostitution - the least severe among the five counts he faced. He now faces up to 20 years in prison. A full conviction could have led to a life sentence. Sentencing is scheduled for October 3. Combs remains in custody at the Metropolitan Detention Centre in New York. Prosecutors accused Combs of abusing, coercing, and threatening multiple women over several years to fulfil his sexual demands.
