Former Army Ranger struck by boat propeller in hit-and-run during Bahamas vacation: ‘His bottom was almost completely detached'

New York Post15 hours ago
A former Army Ranger was nearly sliced in half when he was struck by a propeller of a boat that ran him over in a disturbing hit-and-run as he snorkeled off the coast of the Bahamas during a family vacation.
Brent Slough, from Prosper, Texas, is in critical condition at an ICU in Miami, Florida, after suffering multiple fractures and deep gashes in the horrifying incident on June 30.
Slough was snorkeling approximately 20 feet off the shore of Exuma when a speedboat, captained by two men, barreled through the waters and into the father of two before taking off, CBS Texas reported.

The 42-year-old was with his wife, Whitney, and their two daughters, who witnessed the grisly hit-and-run, for a 10-day vacation on the island.
'I felt like a thump thump, and I was like, 'did I just get hit by a boat?'' Slough told the outlet. 'My left leg wasn't functioning, and I felt like something was wrong with my lower body.'
Slough was nearly split in two by the powerful blades that struck just below his buttocks.
'His bottom was almost completely detached from his legs,' a horrified Whitney Slough said.
The wounded father managed to pull himself above water and saw the boat that allegedly struck him speeding away from the frightening scene.
'So I surfaced and I looked to my right and I see two guys in a boat and one of them looks back and they just keep on going,' he said.

Slough's older daughter rushed to her dad's aid and pulled him to shore using a float, according to the outlet.
Slough was rushed to a hospital on Exuma before being transferred roughly 30 minutes away to a medical center in Nassau.
The care at both facilities was considered 'insufficient,' and Slough was airlifted on an ambulance jet to Miami, Fla. where he went into surgery before being hospitalized in the ICU, according to a GoFundMe set up for his wife.
'The doctor told me, 'Please get to a hospital in Miami, you need to get to the US for something this traumatic,'' Slough said.

Doctors are concerned that Slough's injuries are still life-threatening, fearing the lacerations can become infected.
Whitney Slough left her daughters back in the Bahamas to travel with her husband to the US.
'It breaks my heart because we're not on vacation together, and we are not with our girls at the same time,' she told CBS Texas. 'I'm so grateful that he's alive.'
Slough graduated from West Point before becoming an Army Ranger in his six-year military service, where he served one tour in Iraq.

The determined wife is returning to her children to assist authorities in finding the boaters she believes are aware of hitting her husband.
'Oh, they're going to be found,' she said. 'It's against the law to be within 200 feet of the shore. Brent was about 20 feet out … I just wish they would turn themselves in, but if they don't turn themselves in, then we have to find them.'
Whitney Slough credited God for saving her husband, despite his gruesome injuries.
'This was God getting us through this 100%,' she added.

The Stop Killing Games initiative has hit a major milestone, but the fight's just begun

A petition to preserve video game access recently achieved an important milestone of one million signatures, but it has two more challenges to overcome before reaching the final level. The "Stop Killing Games" movement reached a million votes earlier this month, meaning the European Union will have to consider adopting legislation addressing this issue. However, the petition first has to deal with the threat of potentially fake signatures and the resistance from major game studios and publishers. The Stop Killing Games initiative, created by Ross Scott, aims to pass new laws to ensure that video games still run even when developer support ends. The petition was a direct response to when Ubisoft delisted The Crew from online stores, shut down the game's servers in 2024, and revoked licenses from players who bought the game. Scott and other critics felt Ubisoft's actions set a dangerous precedent for gamers who may lose access to their purchased games at a developer's whim. Even though there are enough signatures to move to the next step, Scott explained in a YouTube video that many of these may have been incorrectly filled out, while others could have been falsely submitted. The movement's founder said, "This is not a petition, this is a government process," adding that "spoofing signatures on it is a crime." To ensure enough legitimate signatures are collected, Scott said that there needs to be at least 10 percent more to cover the potentially invalid ones. As of July 6, the petition has earned more than 1.2 million signatures. Beyond the signatures, a European advocacy group that includes major gaming studios and publishers like Electronic Arts, Microsoft and Nintendo released a statement opposing the movement. "Private servers are not always a viable alternative option for players as the protections we put in place to secure players' data, remove illegal content, and combat unsafe community content would not exist and would leave rights holders liable," the statement read. "In addition, many titles are designed from the ground-up to be online-only; in effect, these proposals would curtail developer choice by making these video games prohibitively expensive to create." In a longer report, the Video Games Europe group said that this initiative would "raise the costs and risks of developing such games," create a "chilling effect on game design" and "act as a disincentive to making such games available in Europe."

'I've Been Home All Day:' Woman Gets a Call From the Police. Then They Tell Her Her Yellow Kia Soul Has Been Involved in a Crime

If you're going to steal a car, maybe it shouldn't be the brightest one you can find. Content creator Madison ( @sauceaccount06 ) recently shared the unfortunate fate of her beloved bright yellow Kia Soul, which she's had for six years and affectionately calls Vivian. Get the best news, reviews, columns, and more delivered straight to your inbox, daily. back Sign up For more information, read our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use . In the TikTok, Madison explains that she picked up a call with no caller ID and was surprised to find out it was the police calling her to let her know her Kia Soul was just involved in retail theft. 'What was she doing out there?' Madison says, referring to her car. It turned out that her car was stolen. Madison says she had no clue because she'd been home all day. 'They stole a yellow Kia Soul to go commit a crime, which I just think is crazy. Not conspicuous at all, in fact. But I'm devastated because I love that car,' Madison says. The thieves didn't keep her Kia, thankfully. She says they left it behind after driving it recklessly. 'So we'll see if it's in one piece when I get it back,' Madison adds. Her TikTok has 3 million views as of this writing. What Happened to the Kia? In a series of follow-up videos (plus info from her GoFundMe ), Madison reveals that the thief dumped everything that was in her car, which was mainly keepsakes from her childhood, like a shirt she had from kindergarten and her senior prom dress, committed robbery, and then totaled it. In a video Madison posted, you can see that a chunk of the front of the Kia is gone and there are dents and scratches all over it. People noted that Madison was pretty calm given the situation. She seemingly credits this to the fact that this is her fourth car-related incident, so nothing really fazes her. Madison adds that she has full coverage insurance and 'a good sense of humor.' She says she's been hit by a tractor-trailer driving home in the snow, hit as a pedestrian by an older lady, and hit from behind while yielding because the driver 'didn't know you had to stop.' Madison says she developed a neurological disorder from that, but didn't even sue. What she's most devastated by is the fact that she might not be able to find the car again in her signature yellow color. She says that specific shade has been discontinued but didn't specify Kia has reportedly discontinued a popular shade of yellow it used to offer for the Soul. Are Kias Easy to Steal? Why Can't She Figure Out This Feature? Madison says that the thieves broke her window, pulled out the start/stop button, and used a USB to get it started. In 2022, stealing Kias was a trend that went viral on TikTok and YouTube because of how easy it was to hijack a Kia or Hyundai that has push-to-start. Thieves were dubbed 'The Kia Boys.' This had been an ongoing issue that affected Kia models from 2011 to 2021 and Hyundai models from 2015 to 2021, a local news station reported. The issue was that many of these models didn't come with engine immobilizers. This makes it possible to plug the cord into a certain spot and start the powerplant without needing the key or fob. Both manufacturers have since updated the cars to have engine immobilizers. 'Made For a Life of Crime' People were largely sympathetic to Madison over her beloved yellow Kia Soul. Some were surprised that the thieves chose such a conspicuous shade of car to go on a crime spree. 'They picked a highlighter for a getaway vehicle?' one wrote. Perhaps inspired by Madison's lighthearted attitude, some brought brevity to the comments. 'Vivian was made for a life of crime,' a person joked. Another wrote, 'For just .39 cents a day you can help this girl get a new car.' To one outlier, the stolen Kia Soul wasn't the craziest thing Madison shared. 'Answering a call with no caller id is the wildest part of this story,' a third said. Motor1 reached out to Madison for comment via TikTok direct message and comment.
