Mel Owens had said on a podcast interview in June that women with artificial hips were not his kind. He also stated that he did not want to date anybody above 60, which drew severe fan outcry. Owens currently claims he sees why people are angry and wishes to set things right.

While filming The Golden Bachelor earlier this year, Mel Owens was called out by the women in person. Speaking to Glamour in an interview published on Friday, July 26, 2025, Owens revealed that the women didn't hold back during a roast date.
'It was brutal,' Owens said.
'They were killing me … It was good.'
He admitted his comments came from a long dating gap.
'I hadn't dated in 26, 27 years. My dating reference was from when I was 39 or 40,'
Owens said. He explained that he thought the show's age range would be 45 to 60 and didn't realize many contestants would be over 60.
He also revealed that a friend told him directly, 'You've said some things that are just incredibly wrong.'
That's when he realized he needed to apologize.
