Ronwen Williams breaks silence on mistake against Dortmund
Ronwen Williams, Mamelodi Sundowns' goalkeeper, has revealed the story behind his crucial blunder during their thrilling FIFA Club World Cup group stage clash with Borussia Dortmund. The match, held at Cincinnati's TQL Stadium on Saturday night, saw Dortmund edge a 4-3 victory after coming from behind.
Williams' costly mistake came in the 16th minute when a back pass went directly to Borussia Dortmund's Felix Nmecha, who capitalised on the error to give the German giants the lead. Williams shared what led to the mishap, explaining how his teammate Teboho Mokoena's unexpected movement disrupted his intended pass.
'It's not nice to concede a goal like that. But you know, we are a team that takes risks. So, before I received the ball, I obviously saw 'Tebza' there, but he got a call from Marcelo Allende to move away. It was just one of those unfortunate situations. But we learn from it, and we keep going,' Williams said, as quoted by FARPost .
Despite the early setback, Ronwen Williams praised his team's mental strength and determination to keep fighting against a physically dominant Dortmund side.
'However, we showed that we can compete. Yes, obviously, they are physically bigger, but it's all about the mind; if your mentality is right, you can go out there and compete with the best, and that's what we showed.
'We had a very good chance in the first-half, and I'm just proud of the boys for their efforts and the desire to keep fighting. Now, the gap is not that big. I think we have proved that.'
The intense match ended 4-3 in favour of Dortmund. Goals from Felix Nmecha, Serhou Guirassy, Jobe Bellingham, and an own goal by Khuliso Mudau secured the win for the Bundesliga giants. Meanwhile, Lucas Ribeiro, Iqraam Rayners, and Lebo Mothiba found the net for Sundowns, keeping the contest fiercely competitive.
Do you think Mamelodi Sundowns would have won without Williams' blunder?

Why Kaizer Chiefs will be a different team next season
Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Mokete Tsotetsi feels his former club will be a different team next season. Amakhosi have finished outside the top 8 in back-to-back seasons for the first time in PSL history. Under Nasredine Nabi, the club has not shown much improvement; however, they ended their 10-year trophyless run when they won the Nedbank Cup. 'Chiefs went to Turkey last season and they did well in the early stages of the league. Remember there was a reshuffling of the technical team after the first assistant left and then they had to bring in another one,' Tsotetsi told Soccer Laduma . 'Going to Netherlands now, it will be good for them because they are going to be preparing against teams that will give them a challenge to prepare for the league. In Netherlands, they are usually good tactically, so I think it can help Chiefs in establishing a good structure in their line-up. I think they will come back a different team. They will come back a better team.' Kaizer Chiefs have parted ways with five players but are yet to confirm any new signings. The likes of Ranga Chivaviro and Edmilson Dove are amongst the departed players meaning the Soweto giants might be eyeing to sign a few foreign players. Paris Saint-Germain cruise past Lionel Messi and his Inter Miami
Paris Saint-Germain easily eliminated Inter Miami and old friend Lionel Messi from the Fifa Club World Cup, outclassing the Herons 4-0 in the Round of 16 on Sunday. Joao Neves potted two goals before a Miami own goal and a strike by Achraf Hakimi bloated the margin to four by halftime. The European champions will face the winner between Bayern Munich and Flamengo in the quarterfinals on Saturday. Oscar Ustari recorded six saves for Inter Miami, while PSG's Gianluigi Donnarumma had to make just three after Miami was held without a shot attempt for the first 50 minutes. The match was Messi's first time facing PSG since leaving the club and coming to America two years ago. Desire Doue won PSG a free kick just outside the penalty area less than five minutes into the match. Vitinha took the kick and connected with Neves, who headed it on the run across Ustari's body and into the net.
