Couple lost arms holding on to each other as tornado hit their home

Metro24-05-2025
An elderly married couple who held on to each other when a tornado struck their home lost an arm each.
Paul and Gail Cline held hands inside their home in London, Kentucky, as a twister tore through and forcefully separated them as they refused to let go of each other.
'The doctors said that they lost opposite arms because they were holding each other,' their niece, Brandy Bowman told WLEX.
Neighbors looking for survivors heard Gail's screams.
'She said, 'I need help. I see an arm down the hallway,'' said Bowman, explaining that it was Gail's arm.
Gail and her husband were rushed to London Hospital. Gail also has punctures on her lungs from her ribs and is on life support.
Paul's health has improved, but he suffers from dementia and is having trouble understanding what happened. More Trending

Loving husband of Patricia for almost 30 years, and proud father of twin boys Lyndon and Cameron, he will be very sadly missed by all who knew him. Glenn with his twin boys, Lyndon and Cameron (Image: Family photo) He ran The King William pub in Summerhill, alongside Patricia, for the last nine years. As a testament to his character, over 200 people attended his funeral at Pentre Bychan Crematorium. Glenn, a proud Scotsman, served in the army for 24 years - meeting Patricia while posted in Northern Ireland. Their children were born in Glasgow before the family moved to the Wrexham area. Glenn, Patricia, Lyndon and Cameron (Image: Family photo) Paying tribute, Patricia said: "He'd do anything for anybody. One of the last conversations he had with one of our regulars, Bryn, was that Bryn was talking about having a long car journey to collect car parts. "Glenn asked where Bryn was going, and after hearing where he said he was heading that way anyway and said he'd do a little de-tour to pick up the parts for Bryn - who's in his 70s and wasn't looking forward to the drive. "That's just an example of the sort of man Glenn was." Glenn and pub regular, Cliff Phillpott (Image: Family photo) She added: "He was a cheeky chappy, and would always have little jokes with people. He loved football, and was a Celtic and Liverpool fan. All three of my boys were born in Glasgow - and I love the fact that all my boys were Scottish. "He taught our boys (now aged 16) to play pool from a young age, and they both play pool for Wales u18s. He also coached the Llay junior football team they play for. He loved the boys, and our dogs, so much - and sadly missed their recent school prom. (Image: Family photo) "As landlord of the pub, he was really popular. He'd always know what channel to turn on the TV when certain people came in, and he'd always give our older ladies a hug goodbye when they left - as well as a kiss on the cheek when they asked: 'Where's my kiss'. People came from all over for the funeral." A spokesperson for The Welsh Pool Association (WPA) said: "The Welsh Pool Association would like to send their condolences to the family of Glenn Hamilton. "We are truly saddened to hear of his sudden passing. A true loss to the pool community, as a father to two of our international unders players, Lyndon and Cameron, and as a WPA team manager. West Lothian mum's heart-wrenching tribute for baby son who was born sleeping

The family of Carson Cooper, from Bathgate, have been left heartbroken after the delight of welcoming their new-born baby was taken from them in February. A West Lothian mum who is grieving the death of her stillborn baby has raised money to help other families going through similar experiences. ‌ The family of Carson Cooper, from Bathgate, have been left heartbroken after the delight of welcoming their new-born baby was taken from them in February. ‌ Carson was due to make his entrance to the world earlier this year but he was tragically born asleep at 37 weeks on February 20. ‌ Speaking on her tragic loss, mum Nadine Cooper, 33, has been working to raise money to purchase CuddleCot's to donate in memory of her son. She said if it wasn't for the CuddleCot - a cooling device that allows parents to spend extended time with their baby who has died - she wouldn't have been able to spend the precious days with her son in hospital. Nadine added: 'I hope my son is proud because they have been donated in his name. It's such a hard feeling to describe what it's like going through something like that. I set up the GoFundMe after I lost Carson because it was a distraction from everything going on. ‌ 'I lost Carson in February and I was 37 weeks at the time. You know situations like this happen but you don't think it will ever happen to you. 'At 37 weeks, you are planning for the arrival - not to give birth and know he's not alive. 'We were based at St John's and when I left the hospital, three families lost their child that week and they needed a CuddleCot to see their child. ‌ 'I saw people had donated CuddleCot's to other hospitals and I wanted to try do the same. I have managed to raise enough for two and we are just waiting for them to be delivered. 'We are just so grateful to everyone who has donated and helped us with this.' The fundraiser has collected over £5,000 and Nadine is glad to be able to help the hospital that were 'fantastic' to them throughout the devastating process. ‌ The mum-of-two is expecting a third child and is currently at 14 weeks. A description on the GoFundMe reads: 'If it wasn't for the CuddleCot, I wouldn't have been able to spend the precious days with my son in hospital. 'These CuddleCots are so important to many families and the NHS need more of them. ‌ 'The CuddleCot provides grieving families the opportunity to spend time with their loved ones without needing to cool the entire room. 'This time allows families to create precious memories, enables mothers to recover from medication side effects, make arrangements without feeling rushed, and gives family members the chance to visit—all while keeping their loved ones close by. 'The CuddleCot can gently cool a pre-term or full-term baby from day one thereby preserving their appearance, condition, and dignity. The CuddleCot is compatible with any cot or bassinet. 'If the target for two CuddleCots is not met, one will be purchased and the surplus money will be given to the hospital to help towards their special dedicated family room where we spent a few days.'
