Yes, You Can Wear Black in the Summer—Here Are 7 Chic Outfit Formulas to Follow

Vogue07-05-2025

Summertime is synonymous with color—the oceans' richness, the sky's brightness, the sunset's golden hour hues. It's only natural to gravitate toward bold prints and vivid colors during this time of year. But for some, especially for the city dwellers living with an artist's edge, wearing black in the summer is as natural as throwing on a romantic floral dress. The key to embracing black during the warmer months? Experimenting with fabrics, textures, and silhouettes.
Vogue's Favorite Black Summer Staples
Besides, wearing black in the summertime doesn't mean you're forgoing all that the season has to offer. If anything, you're just going the monochromatic route. On the weekend, swap your white poplin skirt for a black option from Aritzia—it looks chic teamed with an embroidered lace blouse and raffia tote bag. Wondering how to toughen up your go-to essentials for beach trips and lavish destinations? Easy—eschew the printed sarong, natural-colored raffia hat, and bikini set in favor of their black counterparts. There are plenty of ways to incorporate the no-color-color this season, whether you're having a busy workweek or planning a Friday date night. Below, seven all-black summer outfit ideas for every occasion, ahead.
Picnic in the Park
A fitted tank, especially one cast in black, from Flore Flore and pull-on trousers from Mango, is an easy way to elevate a casual ensemble. Amplify the look with designer accessories from Toteme and The Row.
Weekend Warrior
Embrace the essence of the season by pairing summer's coveted textures together in one look. Embroidered lace, linen, raffia, and a jelly sandal join forces for effortless off-duty appeal.
Workin' Gal
For the office, swap your wool blazer and straight-leg pants for an oversized black shirt from Skall Studio and Bermuda shorts (they are currently trending!) from Mango. Dragon Diffusion's woven Japan tote will store a laptop, wallet, keys, and a desk lunch.
Au Revoir
If there's one thing we all look forward to the moment warmer weather arrives on the scene, it's the potential to plot a much-needed vacation. Showcase an air of mystery on the beach by wearing all black.
Business Casual
Business codes have come a long way from the boxy office wear of the past. Find feminine touch with a cinched waist linen blazer and matching pants from Alex Mill, ideal for both work and a dinner meeting afterwards.
Date Night
Silver-embellished fashion-forward accessories are an easy way to update a date night look. Rohé's off-the-shoulder maxidress sets the foundation—anything will look good paired with it. Add whimsy and charm with a beaded bucket bag and strappy kitten-heel sandals.
Pilates Princess
The time is now for Hot Girl Walks, morning Reformer classes, and weekends spent unwinding with a soundbath session. Sport all black on the way there with biker shorts and a strappy sports bra. Accessorize with Loulou de Saison's roomy cardigan.

11 lightweight, loose-fitting pants to help you beat the heat this summer — starting at $25

When the weather is hot, it sometimes feels like women have only two options: wear shorts or a skirt, the enemy of a stiff breeze. Thankfully, there's a secret third option: lightweight, loose-fitting pants. Not only do they feel as airy as a summer skirt, but they also offer more coverage than shorts, preventing sweaty thighs from chafing or sticking together. Bonus points: they're wind-proof. Here are 11 pairs of blousy summer pants from brands like Gap, Reitmans and Aritzia. We'll be adding them into rotation, stat. Think loose-fitting pants look unprofessional? Think again. This no.1 bestselling style on Amazon looks ready for the office with its silky fabric and chic tie waist. "The perfect summer work pants," says one Amazon shopper. They're "lightweight but not flimsy," notes another. Reviewers swear that the compliments start rolling in as soon has they put these trousers on. Available in more than 30 colours and prints, they're the ideal length for wearing with flats or low heels. If you're looking to dip a toe in the barrel-leg trend for summer, you can't beat the subtle shape of these 100 per cent cotton pants. They're "comfortable and breezy" for days when the humidex is high, yet stylish enough to wear for drinks with friends. They're also easy to pack for summer vacations. Choose from three different lengths (petite, regular and tall) to find your perfect fit. You may also like the matching top. A classic striped pant goes with everything from a crisp button-up to a relaxed T-shirt. This style is woven with a soft linen blend and has a bit of stretch. With a flattering high-rise fit, they zip up and have belt loops, so you can polish the look with a brown or black belt. Note: The pants run a bit long and, unless you're tall, may work best with wedges or heels. These 100 per cent organic cotton gauze pants are begging for a day at the beach or pool. They have an elasticized waist with a drawstring closure for ultimate comfort and come in fresh summer hues including lilac, pistachio, sand, white and slate blue. (Prefer classic black? You're in luck! They come in black, too.) Add the matching oversized shirt for the perfect lounge outfit. The botanical pattern on these blue-and-cream palazzos screams tropical vacation — the exact kind of vibes we want to put out into the universe this season. Sure, they're made of polyester (points for being recycled), but you really can't beat the price, so we'll let it slide. The style is also available in a few other hues, such as red and beige. "A dream," gushes a Dynamite shopper of these elegant pleated trousers. "I love how they flow when I walk," notes another customer. They're "polished" and "elevated" while remaining comfortable. Made from lightweight twill, the pants have a partially elasticized waistband for a relaxed fit. Try them in fresh white or versatile mushroom. You know that effortlessly stylish woman you've always wished you could be? She owns these pants. Crafted in Portugal using 100 per cent linen with a light grain, this breathable style is begging for a spot in your wardrobe. From this summer onward, they'll be a favourite in your effortlessly stylish woman's arsenal. Capris are "in" this season, but loose-fit cropped pants are a tad more wearable (and more likely to still be in style next year). This short version of Aritzia's beloved The Effortless Pant is designed to be worn with literally any top: tanks, tees, blouses and hoodies. It's easy to dress up or down. Try it in white, ecru or the limited-edition sundried olive. A wide-leg pant in a structured fabric, these By Anthropologie pants offer an artsy take on summer dressing. They're "so cute and unique," says one reviewer. "A great alternative to shorts," notes another. Women of all ages and body types say that they're flattering, too. Choose between white and navy with white stitching. If you're all about a dramatic silhouette, these ultra-wide-leg pants will be right up your alley. They're a brand new Banana Republic style for summer and have embroidered panels along the hem for added interest. Wear them all summer long, then toss them in your suitcase for any warm-weather travel you have coming up this winter. The matching top is also gorgeous. You don't want average loose-fit pants; you want sexy loose-fit pants. Enter: Joe Fresh's wide-leg trousers in luxurious crepe satin. Wear them with the matching tank and chunky metal jewelry for evening, or don a T-shirt, sneakers and tote for running errands. Either way, you'll look totally chic.

Internet blasts man accused of stealing roommate's groceries: 'What a sense of entitlement'

Social media users jumped to defend a man whose roommate accused him of being "petty" and "killing the vibe" because the man moved his groceries to a personal mini fridge to prevent his items from being taken. "I rent a flat with two other guys," the slighted roommate posted on Reddit. "We all agreed we'd buy our own groceries and label stuff," wrote the man, who said he was 31 years old. "One of them keeps 'accidentally' using my stuff," he added. Even though his fellow tenant promised to replace the items he used, including milk, eggs and coffee, he rarely ever did, the frustrated apartment mate griped. "I stopped saying anything and just started moving my stuff into my room's mini fridge," the man said. That prompted the roommate to call him out. "Now he's calling me petty and says I'm 'killing the vibe,'" the original poster wrote. "I'm not his parent." The man turned to social media users to help him determine if he was in the wrong for being "territorial" about his food in the shared living space. "We are roommates, not life partners." He received overwhelming support — with some 1,300 positive "upvote" clicks on the post. "If he doesn't replace what he uses, then has a hissy [fit] about you no longer making those items available to him, then he knows he is taking advantage of it and is just mad you set the boundary," one commenter said. "What a sense of entitlement that he actually complains when he can no longer take your things," another Redditor said. Some people recommended hypothetical responses that the 31-year-old could give his mooching roommate. "I'd be asking what his contribution to 'the vibe' was," a social media user wrote. Another offered, "You mean the vibe of you stealing my groceries? Yeah, I'm killing that vibe for sure." "We are roommates, not life partners," yet another said. Some suggested the original poster show the apartment mate what "petty" really looks like. "Start 'accidentally' wearing his clothes," one person commented. "Being petty would be putting your milk back in the fridge once it's gone off, or switching sugar for salt," another said. "I might be that petty." Many Reddit users shared personal experiences with similar roommate disputes, many of which also involved snack-snatchers grabbing their groceries. "It can only work when nobody in the house is a thieving a--hole, and everyone agrees on whatever [the] parameters [are]," one person advised. Of the more than 150 responses, there was only one vote against the original poster. "Grow a spine and tell him off," the response read. But Lisa Mirza Grotts, an etiquette expert in San Francisco, California, disagreed with that advice. "A closed mouth avoids open regret," Grotts told Fox News Digital. "He used non-verbal communication to correct the wrong." Taking without asking or without compensating is the "ultimate roommate faux pas," she added. "Shared spaces demand mutual respect, especially when there's an agreement in place," Grotts continued. "It may not be a legal contract, but it's a social one." Grotts offered a golden rule for roommates: "If you wouldn't borrow it from a neighbor without asking, don't borrow it from a roommate." Fox News Digital reached out to the original poster on Reddit for comment.

The Stranger Things star showed off her visible tan lines in the barely-there cottagecore style. She also gave fans a glimpse of her behind-the-scenes filming of Enola Holmes Bobby Brown made a stylish case for cottagecore swimwear as she enjoyed a beach day on Friday, June 27. In addition to giving fans a glimpse at her newly-dyed brunette hair—a major departure from the bleach-blonde style she's been sporting in recent months—the Stranger Things actress stripped down to the tiniest string bikini in a nostalgic print. Brown served up vacation style inspo in the golden hour bikini shoot, which showed her modeling a barely-there two-piece paisley swimsuit by the water. Posing with her hands on her forehead, the sunkissed star ensured her bikini body and visible tan lines were front and center in a blue floral patterned suit with white lace trimming her triangle bikini cups and the low-cut waistband of her tiny string bikini bottoms. In addition to embroidered crochet detailing on her barely-there bikini top, Brown's swimsuit also featured green beading in the front paired with a large vintage-inspired bronze pendant dangling down her toned midriff. The Electric State actress added some extra shine for her beachside photoshoot with a silver pearl choker, gold hoop earrings, and a pair of tortoiseshell aviator sunglasses. Brown kept her beauty simple, showing off a bronzed complexion, flushed cheeks, and a rosy pout. Fresh off her recent return to her natural brown hair, the British star pulled her dark locks back into a sleek wet bun. It was a contrasting style to a Bridgerton-coded updo she shared in a separate Instagram post on Friday. Brown paired a green sleeveless crop top covered in tiny purple flowers with a matching low-rise skirt that put her stomach on full display in a carousel, which she mysteriously captioned, 'Case closed.' Alongside photos that appeared to be from the filming of her upcoming Netflix film Enola Holmes 3, Brown showed off a middle-parted curly bun with two braids creating a headband along her hairline.
