No Gatekeeping Here: This Is The Bag That Always Gets Me Compliments

You probably have a decent rotation of bags in your closet. As a fashion writer, I certainly have a carefully curated edit. There's the striped cotton tote that's practically a necessity for supermarket runs, and my trusted large-enough-for-a-MacBook carryall for days in the office. On the weekend, you'll find me wandering around Primrose Hill, iced latte in hand, with my Uniqlo crossbody bag slung over my shoulder. Lately, however, as my wardrobe has matured (read: fewer impulse buys, and more thoughtful pieces), I've found myself missing something in the accessories department; a bag that's effortlessly elegant without feeling too precious. The kind that feels equally at home in a client meeting as it does at a table in a trendy restaurant. In short, I was in the market for a shoulder bag that elevates any look, even when I'm running late and reaching for that trusty jeans-and-white-shirt combo yet again. Naturally, my chic colleagues at Grazia had a few brilliant suggestions, but there was just one that really caught my eye (and heart): the Toteme T-Lock bag. ©Instagram/@fashion_jackson Stockholm-based brand, Toteme, has been something of a well-known secret in fashion circles over the past few years. Founded by Elin Kling and Karl Lindman, you've likely noticed the brand's minimalist basics on plenty of well-dressed women. Whether you've spotted its trendsetting scarf jacket every winter or pined after its chic heeled sandals, Toteme's pieces all have the same calling cards that make them easily identifiable; namely, the considered design, quality construction, and a refined aesthetic largely devoid of bold branding and logos. So, when the brand made its first foray into handbags back in 2022, expectations were reasonably high, and it didn't disappoint. T-Lock Leather Shoulder Bag Price: £1,100 The Toteme T-Lock bag sticks to the brand's quiet luxury design language thanks to an elegant leather exterior detailed with the signature understated hardware lock closure. Effortless in its sophistication, you'll find that despite the T-Lock's slouchy curved silhouette, it's surprisingly sturdy, adding a structured polish to any outfit. There's certainly no lack of understated designer bags in the market these days, so why exactly did I fall so hard for the T-Lock? Simple, it's perfect for almost every occasion. As with most Toteme pieces, the T-Lock is designed with as much attention to practicality as its aesthetic appeal. Roomy enough to fit all my essentials without being overwhelming, the bag comes with a chic top handle for dressier occasions, while a detachable and adjustable longer strap is perfect for those days when I'm rushing around and need my hands free. All of which to say, I'm carrying my T-Lock literally everywhere I go: breakfast meetings with clients, dinners with friends, date nights at a speakeasy, even Sunday morning coffee runs. While I've been partial to the classic black leather style, if you're after a smaller style, the T-Lock also comes as a compact clutch. Then there's the fact that Toteme has rendered the bag in a carousel of shades and finishes, including tan, white and butter yellow leather, tan and chocolate brown suede, ecru and khaki canvas, and even woven styles perfect for the summer. Naturally, I've been in a committed relationship with my T-Lock for the last several months, but I'm hardly the bag's first fan. Several style icons, including Katie Holmes and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, have fallen for the T-Lock's charms in recent years. It's also a common sight on fashion editors and influencers at fashion week, and I've spotted one at nearly every front row in the past few seasons. ©Getty Images/Gotham/GC Images Happily, despite the bag's obviously luxe aesthetic, the T-Lock is also much more accessible than many of its high-end peers, clocking in at £1,100 for the largest shoulder bag. What's more, according to resale site The RealReal, the bag retains 82% of its value over time, so it's also an excellent investment. However, given how chic and, honestly, practical the bag has proven itself, I highly doubt you'd consider parting with it. With its inherent sophistication and wear-with-anything appeal, Toteme's T-Lock bag is the best fashion buy you can make for a grown-up addition to your wardrobe this year. Anne Hathaway Just Revealed Andy's New Style on The Devil Wears Prada 2 Set

THE RUNDOWN In the nearly 20 years since the original The Devil Wears Prada premiered, plenty of things in fashion and the print media landscape have drastically changed. Good thing Andy Sachs has weathered the storm (so far) and is back for the movie's highly anticipated sequel, set to release on May 1, 2026. According to Deadline, filming began in late June; however, exact details of the plot, and the fashion, have been kept under wraps. That is, until today. Prior to this morning's filming, Anne Hathaway took to TikTok, brushing her teeth in an extremely familiar cerulean sweater, though it doesn't look like the exact same one from the original movie. (This was a Frame crewneck pullover, where the OG was a cable knit that was 'no doubt, fished out of some clearance bin.') It's good to know that after years in the industry, Sachs has has retained her humble roots. That doesn't mean her style hasn't evolved at all—though she's certainly no longer the high-powered glamazon we saw borrowing the Chanel boots from the fashion closet, this Andy feels closer to the self-assured leather jacket- and black turtleneck-sporting version we saw in the original film's finale. The fashion didn't stop there: Hathaway continued to tease fans with even more looks. On Instagram and TikTok, she casually swirled in a stunning Gabriela Hearst patchwork maxi dress with the mysterious caption '#dwp2.' On set, the The Idea of You actress gave a glimpse of Sachs's day-to-day style. She was spotted in a Toteme tank top, AGOLDE denim maxi skirt, and Chanel Velcro dad sandals—a classically chic uniform for a now-seasoned New Yorker and a sure sign that jean skirts aren't going anywhere soon. In another scene, Hathaway embodied the part of a modern media mogul in a beautifully structured pinstripe suit vest and matching trousers. Looks like no matter what this city (or industry) throws at her, Sachs hasn't lost her effortlessly fashionable touch.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Hannah (@cocobeautea) Here's how to style these resort-ready pieces for a polished staycation look that feels just as luxurious as a getaway: The Effortless Slip Dress: A sleek monochrome slip dress is the ultimate piece for understated glamour. Layer delicate gold jewelry and pair it with minimalist sandals for an elevated loungewear moment. Throw on an oversized linen shirt for a relaxed cover-up that adds effortless sophistication. Tailored Linen Ease: Nothing says summer like a perfectly tailored linen set in soft neutrals—beige, ivory, or slate gray. This polished yet breathable ensemble works just as well for a rooftop brunch as it does for a sunset stroll. Keep accessories simple with woven leather slides and a dainty bracelet stack. Printed Sophistication: For those who love a touch of pattern, opt for a softly printed midi skirt or a flowing blouse with delicate motifs. Stick to muted tones—think charcoal stripes, abstract brushstrokes, or tonal florals—to maintain a refined aesthetic. Balance the look with solid separates, like a crisp white tank or tailored shorts. Accessorize with Ease: The right accessories can elevate even the simplest outfit. A structured straw tote adds a touch of vacation-ready charm, while oversized sunglasses lend instant glamour. Finish with barely-there sandals or sleek mules to keep the look polished yet relaxed. Whether you're unwinding at home or dreaming of your next escape, this season's resort wear proves that minimalist dressing can still make a statement. The curated selection of pieces—from understated neutrals to delicate prints—offers endless styling possibilities. High-street finds bring accessibility, while luxury investments ensure timeless appeal. With these effortlessly chic looks, your staycation wardrobe will feel just as indulgent as a seaside retreat. The Polished Warm-Weather Staple Fashion Insiders Swear By

In a world where a good chunk of the population operates under a hybrid work model, fashion has shifted to meet the new business casual landscape. Enter the tailored shorts: formal slacks cut off somewhere between the knee and upper thigh, creating a polished look for hot-weather dressing. The best tailored shorts come with a streamlined silhouette, simple design details, and a loose fit around the legs. Not to be mistaken for Bermuda shorts—which, to be fair, have many similar qualities—tailored shorts don't necessarily adhere to any length restrictions. Best Overall: Favorite Daughter The Dream Favorite Bermuda, $178 Best White: Lucia Short, $88 Best for Travel: Aritzia The Effortless Short™ Long, $98 Best High-Waisted: The Drop Stretch Limo Walking Shorts, $60 Best Flared: Helsa The Tweed Short, $249 With brands like The Row, Toteme, and Khaite defining what modern minimalism looks like, it's no surprise that tailored shorts have gained such traction. The look transcends any fleeting trend and instead embodies a type of dressing that resonates with many women: elevated and laid-back with minimal effort. Of course, it helps that they're also easy to style. A pair of flip-flops and a sophisticated blazer might be your go-to, but I recommend tying a silk scarf around the waist with a loose-fitting tank on top. Or perhaps it's time to style the now-trending halter top with your go-to kitten heels. The options are endless, really, but it all starts with finding the perfect tailored shorts, many of which we list below. Tailored to perfection, these Bermuda shorts are sleek from the belt loops to the hem. As someone already familiar with the high-quality designs from Favorite Daughter, ELLE's senior fashion commerce editor Dale Arden Chong naturally gravitated toward the smart shorts. 'I love the light hue of these, which makes them perfect for summer office attire. Style them with a simple tank and a classic belt, and you'll be set to go,' she says. Sizes: 0-12 Colors: French Oak Materials: Rayon, polyester These shorts are neither too short nor too long—the kind of length that feels appropriate no matter the audience. With a subtle preppy touch, the white shorts can easily be styled with a button-down or a crewneck sweater. Keep in mind that while the linen fabric feels comfortably breezy, it's better kept out of the dryer. Sizes: 00-24 Colors: White, Black, Flax Ivory, Ballet Slipper Customer review: 'Love these shorts. I purchased for a work trip where I'd be outside in the heat of summer. Professional, comfortable, long enough to be professional without being too long.' ELLE's digital director Claire Stern Milch swears by Aritzia's Effortless Pants and says 'the shorts are just as good.' Standout features include their 'incredible comfort, thanks to the wrinkle-resistant Japanese crepe fabric,' which, she adds, is ideal for travel. 'Finding an adult-appropriate length can be tough, but this high-rise pleated pair gets it right.' Sizes: 00-16 Colors: Light Birch, Marcona Beige, Dark Olive, Dark Night Navy, Black Materials: Polyester On the hunt for the perfect vacation outfit, associate fashion commerce editor Meg Donohue came across these shorts, which ultimately became her 'new office uniform for warm weather. You can't beat that price!' And it's certainly hard to believe that the well-tailored shorts are under $60. The elegant pleats and faux back pockets easily make them look like they belong in a corporate setting. The only note: They seem to run small, so sizing up is recommended. Sizes: XXS-5XL Colors: Black Materials: Polyester, spandex Customer review: 'Love the fit of the shorts and the length. So cute with tights and my cropped tuxedo jacket from the drop.' Flared at the hem and fitted at the waist, these shorts take a different approach to the meaning of 'tailored.' It takes an expert to craft shorts with such a unique fit, making them look elegant and flattering. Not to mention, your legs will appear extra long. Sizes: XXS-XL Colors: Taupe Melange Materials: Wool, polyester, polyamide, viscose, other fibers, elastane The minute shorts reach your knees, they run the risk of looking more baggy than put-together. That said, this Frankie Shop pair perfectly toes the line between laid-back and buttoned up. It caught assistant accessories editor Madison Rexroat's eye for just that reason. She calls these pleated linen shorts the 'perfect option to try out the long shorts trend while staying elevated and sophisticated.' Sizes: XS-L Materials: Tencel, linen 'I can always count on Madewell for its comfy essentials, and these twill shorts are no exception,' exclaims commerce writer Laura Tarafa. Despite its simple appearance, this pair actually has a lot going for it, like 'a comfortable stretch, a double-button closure, and a thick waistband,' says Laura. 'They're perfect for styling with your favorite chunky belt, some sandals, and a boatneck top for a laid-back weekend look.' Colors: Jet Black, Dark Navy, Pressed Sage, Heritage Khaki, White Materials: Tencel lyocell, cotton, linen Customer review: 'Classy and versatile! I got these on sale, but I'd gladly pay full price. Shorts these days are often too short for my taste, but these strike the perfect balance—stylish without being too conservative.' You could have a very Olsen-esque summer with these chic shorts. A 10-inch inseam, a roomy fit, and deep pockets give these tailored shorts a very relaxed appeal. Still, there's a tasteful elegance to them that works well with kitten heels and a blazer. I particularly love the way the mid-rise fit hangs off the hips. Colors: Black, Natural Chambray, Cedarwood, Lichen Green Materials: Flax linen, viscose, elastane Customer review: 'These are my favorite shorts. The fabric is almost like a silky linen. They are so comfortable to wear. I purchased a second pair!' Known for its high-quality, minimalist designs, the Swedish brand Toteme has perfected tailored shorts for women. Carson Stannard, fashion editor at ELLE, immediately found himself captivated by the well-structured bottoms. 'I can be pretty particular when it comes to shorts, but when I came across this pair from Toteme, I immediately saw them as a summer staple. My favorite aspect is the linen-cotton blend material. It makes a pair of shorts feel even more lightweight and breathable, especially during some of these humid summer days,' he says. Sizes: 2-12 Colors: Off-white Materials: Cotton, linen These shorts are just as ready for the office as they are foa vacation or brunch. Streamlined seams and minimal design details—like the lack of belt loops—give them an elevated touch. For a uniform look, the matching blazer is also a great addition to your wardrobe. Sizes: 00-14 Colors: Dark Carob Materials: Viscose, cotton, elastane Helmut Lang's tailored shorts come in an antique white hue that's just right for summer. It's a shade between butter yellow and creamy white, which makes it easy to style for any occasion. And let's not forget the ideal length. Despite being on the shorter side, the high waist makes them feel a little more conservative. You'll have to move quickly if you want to get in on these discounts: Designer deals at Nordstrom tend to sell out fast, and we're predicting these picks from Khaite, Toteme, and more won't last. (Over here at Vogue, we certainly aren't wasting any time stocking up on investment-worthy pieces to add to our closets.) That includes plenty of beauty deals and luxe skincare, too. We found makeup essentials and travel-sized kits to stock up on before your next vacation. The clock's ticking to the official start date, but with already plenty to choose from, read on to find out exactly what pieces Vogue's editors are snapping up from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2025. Talia Abbas, associate shopping director 'The fates seem to be in my favor right now as I've found some great summer pieces that I've desired for a while. Róhe's lace-trim skirt and Toteme's kitten heels are perfect to wear now into fall—I have visions of styling them in a multitude of ways already.' Kiana Murden, senior beauty commerce writer 'I'm moving this month, so decorating my new space is basically the only thing I can think about that right now. I cannot express how eager I am to bring my Pinterest board to life, and finally have a housewarming. In the spirit of hosting more, Le Creuset's dutch oven is a need—to perfect my short rib recipe! But when things are on sale, I can't help but do a bit of personal shopping too. I need a non-white sneaker, and love the Adidas SL 72 style—perhaps paired with a summery dress—and Breda's red-faced watch. While I'm at it, I'm planning on stocking up on my beauty necessities. I'll need lots of Shiseido's Benefiance cream to help smooth out the expression lines I'm sure I'll get after stressing about my art and curtain rods are hung perfectly level.' Libby Jane Page, shopping executive director 'American Love Story has me scrolling through all my favorite Caroline Bessette Kennedy pieces I wish I could purchase; her wardrobe remains one of the most iconic of all time and she was a Manolo woman through and through. Meanwhile, I have had these Toteme kitten heels on my wish list since last year.' Sache Taylor, events director 'I've never owned anything from Khaite—but as I step into my 30th year, I think it's about time I change that. The Webster dress feels like the perfect place to start: sleek, sculptural, and just dramatic enough (for me) to mark a new chapter.' Leah Faye Cooper, digital style director 'The other day while I was walking home in my go-to pair of platforms, my left shoe broke; the platform just... detached from the upper part of the sandal. I am still reeling from what was a rather humbling wobble home, and also mourning the loss of those shoes, but I'll feel better when I have a new pair like these.' Margaux Anbouba, senior beauty and wellness editor 'I've long admired Erdem's ultra-feminine with an edge designs. This dress is airy and floaty but still pretty and pink—just how I want to dress in the heat of summer.' Laia Garcia-Furtado, senior fashion news editor 'A little black dress is a classic for a reason, but this shift version by Commission—complete with backwards label and fold lines—has the added bonus of being ineffably cool.' Concetta Ciarlo, beauty commerce writer 'Nordstrom's sale of the year? Count me in. Searching for new arrivals in the sale section is my version of high fashion extreme couponing. While my Roman empire is an assortment of luxury items I won't buy on a casual weekday, I can't think of a better time to indulge. From Staud dresses I'm eyeing (and I'm a known Staud-a-holic), to funky jewelry picks like these stackable rings. I also just inherited a gorgeous new sculptural wood coffee table and end table from my friend who's moving to Paris (thanks, Sofia!)—it inspired me to amp up my overall home decor, even upgrading my beauty sleep with silk pillowcases. In the midst of scrolling, there's always room to stock up on beauty products and necessities like a fresh makeup brush set.' Kaite Henwood, audience development associate director 'After years of trying several different denim brands and many shapes, cuts, and crops, I have finally found my go-to brand for all of my jeans: Agolde. This pair is perfectly baggy and features a v-waist cut for a fun twist. It's on sale and at the top of my shopping list! ' Elly Leavitt, shopping lifestyle editor 'A recent trip to Paris (and, more specifically, an experience with the baggage handlers at Charles de Gaulle) has left my beloved checked suitcase dented and on its last legs. I'm currently looking for a replacement, and this spinner from Away ticks all the boxes; as do Rag & Bone's berry-colored sneakers for breezing through TSA. I'm also in the market for some new sheets, and Parachute's lightweight organic cotton set seems perfect for New York's heatwave.' Fred Sahai, associate commerce producer 'I love shopping Re/Done for basics, and have been eyeing this cardigan of theirs. It's a little more fitted than the Agnès B snap cardigan, which I often use for layering. I think this Re/Done one would be great on its own during the warmer months with denim cutoffs or a slip skirt. And I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for the perfect ballet flats.'
