72K job vacancies available in Independence Day job fair — DOLE exec
According to DOLE, at least 72,000 job vacancies are up for grabs during the job fairs, with at least 800 employers participating from the industries of manufacturing, retail, BPO, accommodation, and financial/insurance activities.
Top vacancies include production operators, sales clerks, call center representatives, service crews, and microfinance officers.
'Inaanyayahan natin ang mga kababayan natin na magtungo sa ating online job matching portal,ang PhilJobs, kung saan nandun ang mga bakanteng trabaho nabahagi ko at iba pang trabaho io-offer sa Araw ng Kalayaan,' DOLE Bureau of Local Employment head Assistant Secretary Patrick Patriwirawan Jr. told Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon on Friday.

Patriwirawan Jr. reminded fresh graduates of their free access to pre-employment documents. He also advised job seekers to reach out to their nearest Public Employment Services Office (PESO) or DOLE regional or field offices to access the full list of venues, participating employers, and available job roles.

Meanwhile, at least 5,000 job seekers were hired on the spot during the DOLE Labor Day job fair on May 1, according to Patriwirawan.
This translates to 15% placement rate — higher than the 11% reported in 2024 .

DOLE reminds employers: Implement P50 wage hike in NCR
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on Wednesday reminded employers in the National Capital Region (NCR) of the effectivity of the P50 wage hike in the daily minimum wage. DOLE-NCR Regional Director Sarah Buena Mirasol said the new wage hike will be deemed effective starting Friday, July 18, 2025. 'Effective ang bagong minimum wage sa July 18. Dapat ang ating mga employers ay mag-adjust na at makatanggap na rin by July 18 ang ating minimum wage earners,' Mirasol told Balitanghali. (The new minimum wage will be effective starting July 18. The employers should start adjusting then and provide the new daily minimum wage.) Last month, the NCR Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board granted a P50 wage hike in the region, bringing the daily minimum wage rate from P645 to P695 for the non-agriculture sector, and from P608 to P658 for the agriculture sector, service and retail establishments employing 15 or less workers, and manufacturing establishments regularly employing less than ten workers. Under the new rate, non-agriculture workers will have a monthly take-home pay of about P15,247 to P18,216 for a five-day and six-day workweek, respectively, inclusive of mandatory social welfare benefits such as 13th month pay, service incentive leave, SSS, PhilHealth and Pag-IBIG. Meanwhile, Mirasol said establishments affected by calamities or those involved in retail and services employing ten workers are exempted from the wage hike. 'Kapag hindi nag-comply ang ating employers, puwedeng dumulog sa DOLE-NCR o field offices…Online, puwede rin mag-request for assistance,' she added. US Ambassador to the Philippines MaryKay Carlson formally announced American financial support for the Subic-Clark-Manila-Batangas (SCMB) Railway project during the US Embassy's Independence Day celebration in Manila. 'Last week in Washington, we announced funding for a major rail line linking Subic, Manila, and Batangas under the Luzon Economic Corridor initiative, creating jobs and driving innovation in both of our countries,' Carlson said. The SCMB Railway, a freight line designed to connect three major ports in Luzon, aims to ease congestion at the Port of Manila and improve logistics across the region. Senators push for another wage hike in 20th Congress
Several senators have again filed legislative measures for the 20th Congress seeking to increase the minimum wage of Filipino workers. Among the 10 priority bills of Senator Joel Villanueva, which he filed on Monday, was the Living Wage Act, which aims to fairly adjust the minimum wage set by each regional wage board to provide a decent life for workers. 'At the end of the day, we wanted to make sure na 'yung batayan ay living wage. Ang batayan ay hindi lang basta itaas ang sweldo, kundi doon sa batayan na magkakaroon naman ng disenteng buhay 'yung ating mga manggagawa,' Villanueva said. Seasoned senator Loren Legarda also included the Living Wage Act as one of her top 10 bills. Meanwhile, Senator Bong Go filed a bill seeking a P100 across-the-board daily wage hike. He said that the P50 wage increase recently approved for workers in the National Capital Region (NCR) may be 'insufficient' considering the current economic conditions. 'Kulang 'yung singkwenta sa NCR sa totoo lang. Habang tumataas 'yung bilihin ay kulang po 'yung singkwenta. Kaya sana po'y maipasa itong isang daan [piso],' Go said. (That P50 increase in the NCR is not enough, honestly, considering that the price of goods increases. So I hope that the P100 wage increase will be passed.) The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on Monday announced that the NCR Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) issued Wage Order No. 26, which grants a P50 wage hike. This means that at least 1.2 million minimum wage earners in the NCR are set to receive higher salaries next month. Senator Robin Padilla, on the other hand, filed a bill that aims to provide a P150 minimum wage increase for employees and workers in the private sector. Senator Imee Marcos also filed the National Minimum Wage Act on Tuesday. To recall, in the 19th Congress, the proposed legislated minimum wage hike, which was pegged at P200 at the House of Representatives and P100 in the Senate, did not pass into law because the two chambers failed to reconcile them on time. President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. will study if a legislated wage hike would result in layoffs, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro said Tuesday. ''Muli, pag-aaralan ito kung kakayanin ba talaga, kasi kung magdudulot naman ito ng lay-off dahil hindi kakayanin nung karamihan maliliit na mga negosyante, mas marami pong mahihirapang mga manggagawa dahil baka mawalan sila ng trabaho,'' Castro said at a briefing.
