Dramatic comeback earns Armada Women draw in home opener
The Girls in Blue fell behind early, allowing three goals in a five-minute span in the match against the two-time defending conference champions, the West Florida Flames. They would finally get on the board in the 61st minute when Sarah Brunner coolly stepped around the West Florida goalkeeper and slotted it home. That momentum would be short-lived with the Flames answering just five minutes later.

The outcome looked decided late in the match with West Florida up 4-1 in the 85th minute when Jacksonville started its comeback. Liz Anne Fogarty scored for the second time in as many matches to make it 4-2, but that scoreline wouldn't last for long. Just three minutes later, Talitha Hines scored to make it 4-3 in the 89th minute. The Armada had a number of chances in stoppage time to even the score before a late corner set up the dramatic finish. Initially cleared, the ball fell to Jianna Ramirez, who sent it back towards the net in search of a teammate. Instead, it went over the goalkeeper's head, off the post, and into the back of the net.
That proved to be the final action in an amazing 4-4 finish between two top 25 nationally ranked teams and the expected frontrunners in the WPSL's Sunshine Conference this summer.

The Armada Women return to action next weekend with a road trip to face AGC Football, while Nathaniel Glover Community Field and Stadium will play host to the Men's U-23 team Saturday night at 7 pm against Miami Dutch Lions FC. You can watch that matchup live on the Action Sports Jax 24/7 network.

Through the 2024-25 season, the Los Angeles Lakers have had a total of 506 players suit up for them, going back to their days in Minneapolis. Some were forgettable, some were serviceable, some were good and a select few were flat-out legendary. As the Lakers approach their 80th season of existence (they were founded back in 1946 as the Detroit Gems in the National Basketball League), LeBron Wire is taking a look at each player who has worn their jersey, whether it has been a purple and gold one or the ones they donned back in the Midwest during their early years. We now take a look at Anthony Miller, a power forward who suited up for the Lakers in the 1990s. Miller grew up in Benton Harbor, a small town in southwest Michigan, and played three seasons of college basketball at Michigan State University. The Golden State Warriors took him in the second round of the 1994 NBA Draft, and he was subsequently traded to the Lakers. He played two seasons with the Purple and Gold and averaged 3.1 points and 2.4 rebounds in 8.9 minutes a game. The 6-foot-9 big man was nicknamed "Pig" because his facial features resembled those of that specific mammal. After leaving the Lakers, Miller spent six more seasons in the NBA. He also spent time with the Yakima Sun Kings of the Continental Basketball Association and won league championships there in 2003 and 2006. West Indies hold their nerves to beat Pakistan in T20 thriller
LAUDERHILL, Fla. (AP) — Jason Holder took four wickets and then smashed a boundary off the final ball of the game to lift West Indies to a thrilling two-wicket victory over Pakistan on Saturday and level the three-match Twenty20 cricket international series. The veteran allrounder bowled an inspired spell to take 4-19 off four overs, as Pakistan struggled to 133 for nine after it won the toss and batted in Florida. The West Indies reply also stumbled as Pakistan's spinners kept scoring difficult but late cameos by Gudakesh Motie and Romario Shepherd kept West Indies just about in the contest before Holder's heroics off Pakistan talisman Shahid Shah Afridi's final delivery clinched it. It is the first T20 victory for West Indies in seven matches, a span that includes a heavy 5-0 series defeat to Australia, on top of a test series sweep last month. 'Been a tough couple of weeks for us,' captain Shai Hope said. 'We always try to get better, the guys have put in a lot of hard work. 'Hopefully today is the turnaround we are looking for.' Earlier, Hasan Nawaz's 40 from 23 balls and captain Salman Agha's 38 from 33 deliveries led Pakistan from a precarious 53-4 in the 10th over, but 133 looked a vulnerable target at the innings break. Fresh from taking three wickets in Pakistan's 14-run win in the opening game at the same venue on Thursday, Mohammad Nawaz took another three Saturday, returning 3-14 from his four overs. Like Thursday's game, West Indies found scoring more than five-an-over difficult on the spin-friendly pitch and lost regular wickets. When Roston Chase was teased into a big shot by Saim Ayub, West Indies had sunk to 70-5 in the 14th over and looking at a steep mountain to climb. West Indies rally Motie got the innings moving with his quickfire 28 from 20 balls before Shepherd chipped in with 15 from 11 balls, including taking 10 runs off Hasan Ali in the second-to-last over to give West Indies a glimpse. Needing eight runs from the final over, Afridi removed Shepherd off the second ball, with Holder and new batter Shamar Joseph only able to score singles off the next three balls. Afridi then bowled a wide to leave West Indies needing three runs from the final ball. Holder then found the gap at backward square to score the boundary they needed and end their six T20 match losing streak. 'We've had a fair bit of criticism which is warranted,' player-of-the-match Holder said. 'We haven't done justice to our potential. 'We can be a lot better, consistency has definitely plagued us.' Aaron Civale stars as the White Sox beat the Angels 1-0 to surpass 2024 win total
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Aaron Civale pitched one-hit ball into the seventh inning, and the Chicago White Sox beat the Los Angeles Angels 1-0 on Saturday night to surpass their win total from last season. Chicago improved to 42-69 with its 10th win in 14 games since the All-Star break. It finished with a 41-121 record in 2024, breaking the modern major league record for most losses in a season. The White Sox scored their only run on Kyle Teel's RBI single in the second against Kyle Hendricks (6-8). Teel drove in Luis Robert Jr., who reached on a leadoff single. Civale (3-6) struck out eight in 6 1/3 innings. He is 2-0 in his last three starts, allowing an unearned run and seven hits in 17 1/3 innings. The Angels got their only hit when Zach Neto beat out a slow roller down the third base line leading off the fourth. It was the team's third consecutive loss. Brandon Eisert retired each of his five batters, and Jordan Leasure finished the one-hitter for his third save in seven opportunities. Brooks Baldwin had two of Chicago's six hits. The White Sox played without infielder Miguel Vargas, who was scratched because of a left oblique strain. Key moment Nolan Schanuel walked after Neto's hit. But Civale retired the next three batters.
