Instant Reactions: Spartans end Oregon's tourney run in Indy
Michigan State came into the Big Ten tournament as the regular season champions and the favorite to win this tourney in Indianapolis. The Spartans showed why as they ended Oregon's eight-game winning streak with a 74-64 win in the quarterfinals.
Oregon is now 24-9 on the season and will find out where it is placed and seeded in the NCAA tournament on Sunday. Michigan State will play in the Big Ten semifinals against either Wisconsin or UCLA.
Just like in the first meeting between these two teams a month ago, it was a hard-fought battle, but Michigan State had too much firepower for the Ducks to handle. Nine different Spartans scored.
Oregon vs Michigan State Keys to the Game
The Ducks got off to a slow start in this one as they watched the Spartans jump on top to an 8-0 lead early. Oregon got its stuff together, however, on both ends of the floor and briefly took a 19-18 lead midway through the first half.
It was a back-and-forth affair for much of the first half, but Michigan State went on an 11-2 run before halftime and took a 42-32 lead into the break.
The Spartans played a tight man-to-man defense, not allowing much penetration from the Oregon guards. Jackson Shelstad and TJ Bamba had a tough time getting into the paint and for the few times they did, the Spartans surrounded them.
Michigan State did have had time guarding Nate Bittle as the Duck center was the only consistent threat offensively for Oregon.
But it was the rebounding, or the lack of rebounding to be more exact, that hurt the Ducks, especially in the half. The Spartans had seven offensive boards that led to 13 second chance points and that was the difference right there.
Down by double digits isn't new territory for this Duck team as they've had the capability of rallying from such deficits and they came out of the halftime break focused. They took advantage of some turnovers and sliced that deficit to just one at 44-43 with 15:36 remaining.
Michigan State was able to use another 11-2 run to build that lead back up and the Ducks never really were able to cut into that scoreboard much after that.
Oregon vs Michigan State Players of the Game
Nate Bittle: 22 points, 11 rebounds
TJ Bamba: 11 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists
Jackson Shelstad: 8 points
Jase Richardson (MSU): 17 points
Oregon vs Michigan State Notable Stats
The Ducks shot 47 percent from the field on 25-of-53 shooting. Michigan State was nearly equal with 25-of-54 from the field.
It was the lack of threes that really hurt the Ducks. Oregon was just 4-of-19 from long range, while the Spartans were 7-of-15 from three-point land.
Michigan State dominated the glass for most of the game, holding a 36-29 advantage, including 10 offensive boards to the Ducks' six.
The Ducks turned the ball over 15 times and against an efficient team like the Spartans, that just can't happen. Couple that with the 16 second chance points, it was just too much for Oregon to overcome.
What's Next for the Oregon Ducks
Selection Sunday — Mar. 16th
NCAA Tournament First Round — Mar. 20th-21st
Oregon will fly back to Eugene and see where they land in the NCAA tournament. With their nine Quad-1 wins and 24-9 overall mark, it's thought that the Ducks should be a 5 or 6 seed. The only question is whether or not the committee keeps Oregon on the West Coast. Seattle, San Francisco or even Denver would be a favorite place for the team and their fans to go.

Nebraska's Matt Rhule drops ‘dynamic duo' declaration on Dylan Raiola, Dana Holgorsen
The post Nebraska's Matt Rhule drops 'dynamic duo' declaration on Dylan Raiola, Dana Holgorsen appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Matt Rhule era hasn't quite kicked off just yet at Nebraska football, but the Cornhuskers are hoping that this is the year where they break out as contenders in the Big Ten. Rhule has overseen a number of incredible turnarounds in his third seasons at Temple and Baylor, and he plans on doing the same in Year 3 in Lincoln. Advertisement If that is going to be the case, there are going to have to be some changes and some major improvements from this Nebraska team. The Cornhuskers struggled mightily on offense last season with true freshman quarterback Dylan Raiola, causing them to bring in renowned offensive mind Dana Holgorsen midseason. Despite the duo's struggles last season, Rhule believes that the pair is going to lead one of the best offenses in the Big Ten at Nebraska next season, according to On3 Sports. 'His body looks great,' Rhule said of Raiola. 'And he and Dana [Holgorsen], I think are going to make a dynamic duo. I think we have a chance to be really special on offense.' Raiola had an up-and-down freshman season, but he showed flashes of potential greatness in the future at times. He has strong pocket presence and feel for the game, but inconsistency in accuracy and decision making hurt him at times. Still, he was able to throw for 2,819 yards and 13 touchdowns as a true freshman. Advertisement Despite the highs and lows, Rhule has been impressed with Raiola heading into Year 2 at Nebraska and is expecting big things out of his young quarterback. 'To me, it's not about his highs being any higher. It's about his lows not being so low,' Rhule said of the Nebraska quarterback. 'It's the same for our whole team. What I've loved about Dylan is the consistency he's shown and bought into. He's the same guy every day. He's holding people accountable, starting with himself.' The Big Ten is one of the most loaded conferences in college football and that should be no different next season. Nebraska football will have to be one of the best teams in the nation on both sides of the ball in order to compete, and Rhule is planning on Raiola and Holgorsen lifting the Cornhuskers' offense to that level. Nebraska gets recruiting win over Ole Miss with 2026 prospect
The post Nebraska gets recruiting win over Ole Miss with 2026 prospect appeared first on ClutchPoints. Nebraska football claimed a rare win over a Southeastern Conference foe Monday. More so on the college football recruiting trail. The Cornhuskers beat out Ole Miss for a talented 2026 lineman. Advertisement The Big Ten university nabbed 6-foot-5, 310-pound lineman Hayden Ainsworth. Hayes Fawcett of On3 confirmed the Biloxi, Mississippi native was courted by Lane Kiffin and the Rebels. North Carolina State missed the cut as well. 'God is truly great! GBR I'm home 1000%!!!' Ainsworth shared in announcing his verbal commitment to Nebraska. Head coach Matt Rhule and his coaching staff secure a massive recruiting win here. It's rare Nebraska dips into Southeastern Conference territory to grab recruits. Past Nebraska teams prioritize the Midwest region. Rhule's 2025 recruiting class even featured no one hailing from Mississippi. He only landed prospects from Florida (wide receiver Cortez Mills), plus two talents from Missouri and one from Kentucky down in SEC country. But Rhule and the 'Huskers gain a huge tackle to build around moving forward. This commitment also makes up for Nebraska losing four players to the transfer portal one month ago. How Nebraska looks recruiting wise compared to Ole Miss, others Dylan Widger-Imagn Images Many 'Go Big Red' fans have risen the expectations of Nebraska now. Rhule enters a pivotal season three in Lincoln. Advertisement The Cornhuskers haven't scaled past seven victories since the 2016 season under former head coach Mike Riley. Rhule did end Nebraska's lengthy bowl drought during 2024. Expectations are higher than ever under Rhule. Cornhusker fans expect Rhule and his team to compete again for a bowl bid, while raising the victory totals higher. And it all starts with who Nebraska pursues in recruiting and in the college football transfer portal. Dylan Raiola making a return fuels the hype for 2025. Nebraska fielded a top 20 recruiting class for 2025 — the highest under Rhule. The Cornhuskers sit at 64th right now for the 2026 rankings — though. Ole Miss is higher at No. 49. Nebraska's 2026 class even sits dead last among Big Ten teams per 247Sports. Nebraska is predicted to go 7-5 for this coming season. But now the Ainsworth commitment should fuel more optimism for 'GBR.' Alabama loses 4-star ATH race to surprise Big Ten challenger
The post Alabama loses 4-star ATH race to surprise Big Ten challenger appeared first on ClutchPoints. Alabama football lost out on landing a marquee four-star offensive weapon to the Big Ten Monday. Ohio State, Michigan, or Penn State would be the victors here in any other college football recruiting period. But instead a surprise Big Ten challenger beat out 'Bama. Advertisement Big 6-foot-4, 225-pound talent Roman Voss chose Minnesota over Alabama. Hayes Fawcett of On3 confirmed the Crimson Tide lost out on landing the offensive star. He becomes a brand-new recruiting loss for Tide head coach Kalen DeBoer and his coaching staff. But he rises as a major recruiting win for Golden Gophers head coach P.J. Fleck for this reason: Voss is the No. 1 prospect in the state of Minnesota per On3. He stars for Jackson County Central Senior High School. He's also the state's top talent per 247Sports. Fleck lands a pivotal recruiting win here for his Golden Gophers team. The combination of assistant coaches Eric Koehler and Greg Harbaugh Jr. completes the recruitment of Voss. But they have collected the former against some Big Ten competition. Advertisement Voss to Minnesota rises as a brand new loss. Especially considering how rare it is for the Golden Gophers to beat Alabama for a four-star talent. Although Alabama delivered luck against another Big Ten opponent. DeBoer and Alabama managed to flip four-star Illinois commit Javari Barnett Monday. The move adds a needed running back of the future in Tuscaloosa. Barnett previously chose the Fighting Illini back in April. But 'Bama raided another Big Ten school's 2026 recruiting class on Monday as well. Alabama grabbed former Rutgers safety commit Rihyael Kelley. That's not all. Michigan lost its grip on four-star defensive lineman JJ Finch to the Crimson Tide. That move arrived Sunday. Advertisement 'Bama has began to climb into the top 30 in the national recruiting rankings. They now sit at 28th with 10 verbal commitments. Half chose the Tide during the month of June.
