IND vs ENG Test: 'I'll be disappointed...' – Ravi Shastri makes bold prediction about Shubman Gill

India's Shubman Gill, Shardul Thakur and Nitish Kumar Reddy during a nets session at Headingly, Leeds, England, Wednesday June 18, 2025. (Danny Lawson/PA via AP) Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has made a big prediction for India's new Test captain Shubman Gill . Shastri said it would be a surprise if Gill does not go places in a few years. 'I'll be disappointed if Gill doesn't go places. Languid, lazy elegance, and he's got a regal element of being regal out there when he's batting,' Shastri told Wisden. 'If he can learn with exposure and adapt to conditions, I think that's the one name I can see. 15:33 WV Raman backs Shubman Gill to fire in England: 'He needs the right support' 'He's matured a lot. The way he handles the media, the way he talks at press conferences, at tosses—he's matured a lot. 'Let him be there for three years. Don't chop and change irrespective of what happens in the series. Stick with him for three years, and I think he will deliver for you,' he added. Gill scored a sublime century on his captaincy debut for India in Headingley. Gill joined the elite list of Indians which includes Sunil Gavaskar, Virat Kohli, Vijay Hazare, and Dilip Vengsarkar to score a hundred on Test captaincy debut. Gill is the 23rd player to score a century in a debut innings as captain and the fourth-youngest among them, behind Herbie Taylor, Alastair Cook, and Steven Smith. Prasidh Krishna Press Conference: On Learning, Experience & the Road Ahead India's right-arm seamer Prasidh Krishna has also shared his thoughts on the newly appointed Test skipper, saying the young middle-order batter has created a 'very good atmosphere' in the dressing room. 'I think he did a pretty good job. All of us saw how he rotated the bowlers, made sure everybody had enough breaks, brought in people at the right times, and saw opportunities to bring in the right kind of bowlers. All of that was great, and knowing him, he set a very good atmosphere around. He's been speaking to all of us. We always go in with a plan, and the communication is happening there.' Enzo Fernández's Chelsea salary secured as club earns £9.6m from Club World Cup victory over Benfica

Chelsea earns £9.6m in Club World Cup win, helping cover Enzo Fernández 's salary Chelsea advanced to the quarterfinals of the FIFA Club World Cup with a 4-1 victory over Benfica , on June 29, earning an additional £9.6 million in prize money. The revenue arrives at a pivotal moment for the club as it navigates wage commitments, including midfielder Enzo Fernández's high-value salary package. Manager Enzo Maresca's side emerged from a challenging fixture that included a two-hour delay due to adverse weather conditions. Following a goalless first half, Reece James opened the scoring with a free kick before Benfica responded in stoppage time with an Ángel Di María penalty. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Perdagangkan CFD Emas dengan Broker Tepercaya IC Markets Mendaftar Undo Also read: João Félix transfer news: Benfica eye return of Chelsea forward after loan spell at AC Milan amid Chelsea Chelsea regained the advantage in extra time, as Christopher Nkunku scored from close range. Live Events Financial windfall reinforces Chelsea's investment in Enzo Fernández Before the victory over Benfica, Chelsea had already accumulated £29.5 million through Club World Cup progression and group-stage performance. The latest win brings their total tournament earnings to over £39 million, according to FIFA's official figures. This additional income supports the club's financial structure, including the wages of top-tier players like Enzo Fernández. The Argentine international, who joined Chelsea in a £106.8 million transfer from Benfica in January 2023, remains one of the highest earners at Stamford Bridge. His salary reportedly exceeds £300,000 per week, a significant long-term commitment for ownership under Todd Boehly . While Fernández has shown moments of quality during his time in West London, Chelsea's inconsistent domestic form has placed added pressure on the midfield and technical staff. The Club World Cup provides both a financial cushion and a platform to recalibrate ahead of a congested fixture schedule.
