Mumbai receives heavy rainfall, IMD predicts possibility of occasional light spells of rain
The India Meterological Department IMD earlier today predicted a partly cloudy sky with the possibility of occasional light spells of rain in the city and suburbs for today.
The IMD said that maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 33 degrees Celsius and 26 degrees Celsius.
Earlier, on May 28, Mumbai city received heavy rainfall.
The IMD said that quantitatively, the southwest monsoon seasonal rainfall over the country as a whole is likely to be 106 percent of the Long Period Average (LPA) with a model error of +-4 percent, indicating that above normal rainfall is most likely over the country as a whole during the monsoon season (June to September), 2025.
'The southwest monsoon seasonal (June to September, 2025) rainfall is most likely to be above normal over Central India and South Peninsular India (>106% of LPA), normal over Northwest India (92-108% of LPA) and below normal over Northeast India (94% of LPA),' the IMD said in a press release.
The southwest monsoon seasonal rainfall over the Monsoon Core Zone (MCZ) consisting of most of the rainfed agriculture areas in the country is most likely to be above normal (>106% of LPA).
During June to September 2025, normal to above normal rainfall is very likely over most parts of the country except some areas of Northwest and East India, and many areas of Northeast India where below normal rainfall is very likely.
Earlier, the national capital on Sunday witnessed a spell of rain, accompanied by strong winds over the southern parts of Delhi.
The rains are due to an east-southeastward-moving cloud cluster, according to the Meteorological Department.
The spell of rain offered a much-needed respite from the heat, as the national capital recorded maximum temperatures of more than 39 C earlier in the morning. According to IMD, Safdarjung area recorded a maximum temperature of 39.7 degrees Celsius, Ayanagar 39.5 degrees Celsius, Lodhi Road 39.4 degrees Celsius and Palam recorded 39.1 degrees Celsius.
The IMD has issued warnings of thunderstorms, lightning and squall for the next two days, on June 2-3, in the national capital. (ANI)

Monsoon Havoc in Himachal: 98 dead, 57 rain-related, 41 in road accident
Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], July 14 (ANI): Himachal Pradesh continues to face a grim monsoon season, with the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) confirming a total of 98 fatalities between June 20 and July 13, 2025, across the state. Of these, 57 deaths have been caused by rain-related disasters like landslides, flash floods, and cloudbursts, while 41 people have lost their lives in road accidents, as per the latest situation report issued at 10:00 AM on Monday. In addition to the human toll, the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) reported widespread damage to essential public utilities, 208 roads remain blocked, including one national highway (NH-21 from Mandi to Kullu). And 139 Distribution Transformers (DTRs) have been disrupted and 745 water supply schemes are currently affected due to heavy rains and related damage. As per the Cumulative Loss Report released by the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), among the rain-related fatalities, 15 people died due to cloudbursts, 9 by drowning, 8 in flash floods, 4 due to snake bites, 1 each from a landslide and fire, and 19 others due to electrocution, falls, or other reasons. No deaths were reported due to lightning. The worst-affected district is Mandi, which alone accounts for 21 of these rain-related deaths, along with 27 missing persons and extensive damage to property. Road accident fatalities were highest in Kullu, which reported 7 deaths, followed by Chamba with 6, and Shimla and Solan with 4 each. Other districts such as Mandi, Kangra, Bilaspur, Kinnaur, and Una also reported casualties. The report further states that 178 people have been injured during this period, while 34 individuals remain missing. The heavy rains and related disasters have also taken a toll on livestock, with 22,454 animal deaths recorded. Property damage includes 668 houses (fully and partially), 788 cowsheds, and 224 shops and factories. The total estimated monetary loss stands at Rs 770 crore (Rs 77,096.37 lakh). The SDMA and district administrations are actively engaged in relief and clearance operations, but continued rainfall poses challenges to accessibility and safety. Authorities have urged residents and travelers to remain alert, avoid unnecessary travel to high-risk areas, and follow official advisories. 'The monsoon continues to present a major challenge to the state's disaster management machinery. Our teams are working 24/7 to restore normalcy and minimize further loss,' said a senior SDMA official. With over 31 flash floods, 22 cloudbursts, and 18 landslides reported in just 24 days, officials have urged the public to avoid vulnerable zones, stay updated with weather advisories, and contact SEOC helpline 1070 for emergencies. Delhi Airport issues travel advisory amid rains, urged fliers to use metro to avoid potential delays

A fresh spell of rains occured in the national capital on Monday morning with the India Meteorological Department forecast of moderate to heavy rainfall in the entire Delhi and NCR on July 14. 'As per the Indian Meteorological Department's forecast, Delhi is experiencing inclement weather conditions. Our on-ground teams are working diligently with all stakeholders to ensure your journey remains hassle-free. Passengers are advised to consider alternative modes of transport, including Delhi Metro, to reach the airport and avoid potential delays,' the DIAL said in the travel advisory. Delhi, on Sunday, also witnessed heavy rainfall leading to waterlogging and traffic congestion in many parts of the national capital. A traffic jam was witnessed at Rajiv Chowk as vehicular movement slowed down, following heavy rainfall. Delhi has experienced incessant rainfall since Wednesday, causing waterlogging in several areas, including Bindapur in Uttam Nagar, where roads are submerged under water. Traffic also came to a standstill in many parts of the national capital following the heavy rainfall. (ANI)

20 per cent less rain this monsoon till now in Telangana
HYDERABAD: In contrast to the earlier prediction of the IMD that the state would experience excess rainfall, the rainfall has been on the lower side in the state since the beginning of the Southwest monsoon season this year. Although the southwest monsoon had entered the state in the last week of May, almost two weeks ahead of the expected date, the rainfall in the state has been less than expected and predicted. As per the Telangana Development Planning Society report, the state has recorded a cumulative rainfall of 175 mm against the normal rainfall of 219.3 mm, with a deviation of -20% between June 1 and July 13. It is to be noted that the rainfall deviation last year in the month of June was 34% and July was 10%, against the deviation of 20% in both June and July this year, resulting in deficient rainfall across the state. As many as 20 districts recorded deficient rainfall, with 322 mandals recording deficient rain, 232 mandals with normal rainfall, 29 mandals with excess rain and only five mandals recorded large excess rainfall since June 1. Adilabad district recorded the highest cumulative rainfall of 382.7 mm with 24 rainy days, whereas Kumaram Bheem had 25 rainy days, the highest in the state. Medchal-Malkajgiri was the most rainfall deficient district in the state with an actual rainfall of merely 74 mm against normal rainfall of 173.4 mm with a -57% deviation. Hyderabad stood as the second most rain deficient district with 83.6 mm of rainfall against the normal of 174 mm, with a 52% deviation. Both Medchal-Malkajgiri and Hyderabad have had seven rainy days in the season, the lowest in the state in this monsoon season. The long range forecast by the IMD has predicted that the state will experience normal and above normal rainfall in July. However, more rains are likely to be experienced in the last week of July.
