AICC meeting with MLAs is not about leadership change: DKS
Speaking to reporters at the KPCC office, he said, 'The meeting is to discuss party organisation and receive MLA's pleas. There has been no discussion about change of CM or expansion of the Cabinet. The Congress party has changed the district and block level leaders across the country and this meeting is in that backdrop.'
'AICC President has declared this year as the year of organisation and has asked us to empower district party presidents. Rahul Gandhi and AICC General Secretaries held a meeting of district presidents in Delhi,' he added.
'Randeep Singh Surjewala is here to receive pleas from MLAs and also give guidance on party organisation. He is trying to bring in discipline in the party amidst public statements by some of the MLAs. Neither the Cabinet expansion or the leadership change was discussed. We are not in a hurry for that and our only focus is 2028,' he said. Asked about Iqbal Hussain's statement that DK Shivakumar would become the CM, he said, 'I will serve him a notice. No one should make public statements on this. Siddaramaiah is the CM and we all should strengthen his hand.'
Asked about B R Patil expressing dissatisfaction over grants, he said, 'The state budget has allocated Rs 1 lakh crore for development. Rs 54,000 crore is ear-marked for guarantee schemes. Rs 19,000 crore is spent on providing electricity to farmers. Isn't this development?'
Asked about Malur MLA Nanjegowda's statement that he was promised to be made accommodated in KMF, he said, 'Political developments are different and cooperative sector is different. I will not comment on that now.'

New Delhi, July 6 (UNI) Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will inaugurate the Controllers' Conference 2025 tomorrow, hosted by Defence Accounts Department (DAD). A flagship forum for policy dialogue, strategic review, and institutional innovation, the Controllers' Conference brings together top leadership from DAD, civil services, academia, think tanks, and stakeholders across the defence and finance sectors. It serves as a vital platform for evaluating challenges, initiating reform, and advancing the role of financial governance in defence preparedness, a Defence Ministry statement said. The theme of this year's conference, 'Transforming Financial Advice, Payment, Audit and Accounting through Defence Finance and Economics,' reflects a paradigm shift within the department repositioning DAD from a finance and accounts body to a future-ready institution focused on Defence Finance and Economics. This transformation, guided by the strategic vision articulated by the Defence Minister on October 1, last year, is internally driven, inclusive, and aligned with emerging national security imperatives. The transition is anchored in DAD's new mission statement and motto 'Alert, Agile, Adaptive' which will be formally released during the event. The conference from July 7 to 9, will feature eight high-level business sessions (Manan Satras), covering areas such as budget and accounts reform, internal audit restructuring, collaborative research, pricing innovation, and capacity building. These sessions will explore the evolving role of Integrated Financial Advisors (IFAs) in balancing fiscal prudence with strategic support for a competitive and self-reliant defence industry. Managing a defence budget of Rs 26.8 lakh crore, including Rs 1.7 lakh crore dedicated to pensions, DAD plays a pivotal role in payroll, pension disbursement, audit, procurement pricing, and strategic financial advice. Over the past year, the department has made significant strides in digital transformation. Since the last Controllers' Conference, DAD has conducted 206 outreach programmes and established over 200 service centres across India strengthening last-mile delivery and stakeholder engagement. Training and upskilling remain central to the transformation, with institutions like NADFM Pune and CENTRAD Delhi driving officer education in defence economics, data analytics, and digital resource management. DAD's audit functions are also evolving into advanced Management Information Systems (MIS) that provide early risk indicators, performance benchmarks, and decision-support frameworks. Aligned with the Defence Ministry's declaration of 2025 as the Year of Reform, the conference is expected to yield actionable outcomes that will fortify India's defence financial architecture—driven by Atmanirbhar Bharat, and committed to maximum governance with minimum government. The deliberations will lay a robust fiscal foundation to strengthen national defence capabilities and ensure that financial systems are agile, responsive, and strategically aligned with India's long-term security goals. Embrace transparency, tech and member-centric approach: Amit Shah urges cooperative sector
Union Minister of Cooperation and Home Amit Shah on Sunday called upon the cooperative sector to follow three principles — transparency, acceptance of technology and prioritising a member's interest — to make the cooperative movement last. Shah made these remarks during an event to celebrate the fourth foundation day of the Ministry of Cooperation at Amul Dairy in Anand district. During the programme, Shah also launched several projects, including a cooperative of salt producers of Kutch district. Shah said, 'Today, all the cooperative leaders are present. It is my strong insistence to all of you that in the current Year of Cooperation, we should strongly follow three things on ground; transparency, acceptance of technology and to bring the member in core focus.' 'Until and unless there is no transparency, the cooperative movement cannot last long. In many countries, the movement has finished and when the reasons behind the same were studied, (it was found that) lack of transparency damaged the feeling of cooperation,' Shah asserted. He said, 'Wherever, technology has not been accepted, the cooperative movement hasn't survived competition. Even in the cooperatives, where a member's interest is not given supreme priority, (it) too gets finished.' Shah asked all the leaders to practice the three principles on ground and make it a 'work culture'. Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Union Government had on July 6, 2021 formed the Ministry of Cooperation and Shah was appointed its first minister. The Union Minister said that the 'feeling of cooperation has been prevalent in the country since the Vedic times'. And PM Modi, he added, 'gave it a legal status'. The minister said that four years ago, Modi laid the foundation of the Ministry of Cooperation with the mantra of 'Prosperity through Cooperation,' giving a new life to the cooperative system. The Cooperation Minister said that under PM Modi's leadership, the ministry has taken 60 initiatives. And all the initiatives are based on five Ps; 'People', 'PACS' (primary agriculture cooperative societies), 'Platform' (digital and national), 'Policy' and 'Prosperity'. Shah said, 'I am speaking from the land of Amul. At least 36 lakh women of Gujarat and 20 lakh (other) women of the country toil daily and collect milk. The annual turnover of the milk cooperative Amul will reach Rs 1 lakh crore next year, up from Rs 80,000 crore. And its profit will go to the bank accounts of these 56 lakh women.' During the occasion, a number of projects were launched such as Sardar Patel Dairy Federation Limited (SPCDF), a cooperative of salt producers of Kutch and several projects of Amul like a mozzarella cheese manufacturing facility, an ultra modern cheese warehouse and expansion of Amul chocolate plant Mogar. SPCDF is a dairy cooperative of Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) registered under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act. It aims to bring together the village-level dairy cooperatives outside Gujarat under a unified federation, expanding the cooperative model nationally. The salt producers' cooperative has been formed by Sarhad Dairy in association with the Amul federation. Speaking on the new salt cooperative launched in Kutch district, Shah said, 'In coming days, I am confident that like Amul, it will be a strong cooperative model for our salt producing workers.' Shah also congratulated Sarhad Dairy Chairman Valamji Humbal for taking the initiative of setting up the salt cooperative. Shah also paid tributes to Syama Prasad Mookerjee on the occasion of his birth anniversary stating that Kashmir would never have become an integral part of India without Mookerjee. 'Mookerjee sacrificed his life for Kashmir, raising the slogan 'Ek desh mein do Vidhan, do Pradhan, aur Do Nishan nahi chalenge' (There can't be two Constitutions, two flags and two leaders in the same country),' he said. The Union Home Affairs Minister said the entire credit goes to Mookerjee and Swami Pranavananda for West Bengal becoming a part of India. 'Mookerjee (who was the then industry minister) resigned from Jawaharlal Nehru's Cabinet in protest against the policy of appeasement. The party, Jan Sangha, which he started with 10 members, has today become the world's largest political party, as the BJP, with a membership of 12 crore people,' Shah said.

Now, he's taking on his most ambitious project yet: blowing up America's entrenched two-party system. On Sunday, the world's richest man unveiled the launch of the 'America Party' a self-funded political force he claims will challenge what he describes as a corrupt and bankrupt "uniparty" dominated by both Democrats and Republicans. The move formalises weeks of growing hostility between Musk and Trump, transforming a simmering feud into full-blown political warfare. ' Libertarian Party: Musk's cautionary tale As Musk builds the America Party from scratch, many experts point to the Libertarian Party as a cautionary tale. It remains the most consistently successful third party in modern US politics yet its influence remains marginal. Founded in 1971, the Libertarian Party has built robust ballot access, often appearing in all 50 states. It achieved its best-ever presidential performance in 2016, when Gary Johnson won 3.3% of the national vote over 4.4 million ballots. However, that momentum has yet to translate into broader national relevance. The party has found some success in local elections, winning hundreds of municipal offices and occasionally a state legislative seat. But it has never sent a member to Congress elected purely as a Libertarian. Figures like Justin Amash switched affiliation while in office but did not win re-election under the party banner. In short, even with decades of organising, broad ideological appeal, and consistent ballot access, the Libertarian Party has struggled to gain serious political traction. Musk may have resources far beyond any Libertarian candidate in history, but the same systemic barriers legal, financial, and cultural could confine the America Party to the same fate. Third-party struggles CNN highlighted how entrenched the two-party system has become, noting that even well-funded independents like Robert F. Kennedy Jr. or popular outliers like Lisa Murkowski often struggle to survive politically. 'You're roadkill in the middle,' Murkowski told The Assignment podcast. Furthermore, to qualify as a party in California, for instance, a new political group must either register 75,000 voters or gather over 1 million petition signatures. And to be nationally recognised, each state branch must request an advisory opinion from the Federal Election Commission, a time-consuming and expensive process. Despite this, Musk's immense personal wealth could theoretically change the game. Musk spent $277 million in the 2024 cycle, mostly through America PAC, and could do so again. However, even with endless money, Kappel warned: 'The hurdles for creating a new party and getting it on the ballot are extremely high… It's a multi-year project and will cost hundreds of millions of dollars.' Parties that rose, ruled — and vanished Musk's America Party may seem like a moonshot in today's entrenched two-party system, but American history is filled with once-powerful parties that vanished — and others that emerged to take their place. In the early days of the republic, the Federalist Party dominated under Alexander Hamilton, only to fade after the War of 1812. It was replaced by the Whigs, who briefly rose to prominence in the mid-19th century before collapsing over divisions on slavery. Out of the Whigs' ashes came the Republican Party — a fringe movement that, within a few years, swept Abraham Lincoln into the presidency. These historical shifts show that the American party system is not as fixed as it may seem. But the key ingredient for transformation wasn't just money or media power; it was a moment of crisis, a vacuum in political leadership, and deep national realignment. America Party's 2026 plan: Targeted disruption Musk proposed focusing on just a few vulnerable Senate and House races. 'One way to execute on this would be to laser-focus on just 2 or 3 Senate seats and 8 to 10 House districts,' he wrote. 'Crack the uniparty system through extremely concentrated force at a precise location on the battlefield.' Still, legal and structural challenges remain enormous. Musk has yet to register the party with the FEC and will need a legal framework to coordinate donations, meet ballot requirements, and recruit candidates. Former DOGE aide James Fishback has even launched a rival super PAC to counter Musk's influence. Called FSD PAC (Full Support for Donald), it aims to raise $1 million to back Trump-aligned candidates and oppose Musk-backed challengers. For now, Musk's America Party is more of a declaration than institution. But if his wealth, frustration, and ambition hold firm, it could reshape the GOP or become the most serious third-party movement America has seen in decades.
