There are hundreds of air conditioner models to choose from, so if you're trying to figure out where to start, we answer a few of the most common questions shoppers ask.
Air conditioners' cooling capacity is measured in BTUs, with higher BTU ratings indicating a more powerful unit. If you have a large room, upwards of 300 square feet, look for higher BTU ratings, while smaller rooms can handle lower capacity ACs. Most ACs state the size room they're able to cool.
Yes, there are definitely energy-efficient air conditioner models that take less energy to cool your home. Many ACs also have eco modes that shut the AC off and on when you're not home, when you're sleeping or when it gets cool enough in the room.
With proper maintenance, most air conditioners can last for years. Make sure to take window units out and store them in dry places. Covers or keeping the original boxes to store your ACs in can help components stay clean and safe.

Apple Reportedly Working on a ChatGPT-Like Search Experience

Apple is internally working on a "ChatGPT-like search experience" to instantly generate answers for users, according to a report from Bloomberg on Sunday. The Answers, Knowledge and Information team, or AKI, is a team within Apple looking to make internal AI products for its devices. The company is reportedly building an "answer engine" -- an AI-powered service that pulls from information online to answer general queries. It's also possible that a separate app might be developed. This AI search could power Siri, Spotlight and Safari. A representative for Apple didn't immediately respond to a request for comment. With companies like Google, Microsoft, OpenAI and Elon Musk's xAI all investing billions in AI development, Apple has notably been absent from the race. Instead of rushing to build AI models that could power the next generation of Siri, Apple opted to partner with OpenAI and leverage its technology. With the launch of the iPhone 16, Apple introduced Apple Intelligence, AI on the iPhone that could assist in text generation, photo editing and summarization. The implementation, however, felt half-baked to many, and the rollout was slow. Apple's place in the AI race Reports surfaced earlier this year that Apple was looking to purchase Perplexity, an AI company that's taking on Google with an AI-powered search engine. Adding Perplexity to Apple's portfolio would certainly help propel the company in the AI race. It would also lessen its reliance on Google. Currently, Apple has a lucrative $20 billion per year deal with Google to allow it to be the default search engine on Apple devices. That's also why Apple hasn't built its own competing search engine -- although, Apple argues that even if the deal didn't exist, we can't assume it'd have made a competing search engine. That deal is now on shaky ground after the Department of Justice's antitrust division sued Google and won, declaring the company is maintaining an illegal monopoly in online search. As a judge weighs remedies in this case, Apple has been barred from participating in the case, meaning Apple could lose $12.5 billion in annual revenue if the DOJ forces how Google makes these deals. Creating a new AI-powered search engine within Apple might unwind the strands between Google and the iPhone maker, but could lead to more competition in the online search and AI markets.

Pixel 10 tease — Google is having a blast poking fun at Apple's Siri failures

Google will officially announce the Pixel 10 series at the end of August during its next Made by Google event. That hasn't stopped the Mountain View company from teasing its flagship phone line as a mind-boggling number of leaks continue to pour out. On Monday (August 4), Google posted a teaser ad on its YouTube channel that takes digs at Apple over its ongoing struggle to release an updated AI-powered version of Siri. The video is also set to an instrumental version of "The Next Episode" by Dr. Dre, another poke at Apple since the company owns Beats by Dr. Dre. The ad references how Apple announced several Apple Intelligence features and Siri upgrades during WWDC 2024. The rollout of Apple Intelligence has been slow and, in some cases, delayed until 2026. As Google implies, many of its announced AI capabilities are already available in its Gemini AI platform. Meanwhile, regular image leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer (OnLeaks on X) teamed up with Android Headlines to share new renders of the Pixel 10 from just about every angle. The leaks show off the phone in the rumored "Frost" colorway kind of a silvery-white. For the most part, the Pixel 10 resembles last year's Google Pixel 9. You'll notice that the camera array is slightly different, largely thanks to the addition of a third camera, making the glass a bit bigger. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. It should feature a 48MP main sensor, a 12MP ultrawide and a 10.8MP telephoto sensor, the same as the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. It may be hard to tell from the renders, but Google is reportedly keeping the matte finish on the sides and back of the phone, the same as last year's base phone. The Pro models are allegedly sticking to glossy. The phone should have a 6.3-inch OLED display plus the Tensor G5 processor, a 3nm processor made by TSMC. Again, Google is set to announce the Pixel 10 series, where we expect to see the base model, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL Pixel 10 Pro Fold, as well as the Pixel Watch 4. The Pixel 10 is rumored to start at $799 for the 128GB version, with the 256GB variant selling for $899. New Google Pixel 10 Teaser Not So Subtly Jabs Apple For Siri Delay

A new teaser for Google's upcoming Pixel 10 phone series is less than subtle in taking a dig at competitor Apple for delaying Siri AI upgrades for the iPhone 16. 'If you buy a phone because of a new feature that's coming soon but it's coming soon for a full year, you could change your definition of 'soon,' or you could just change your phone,' a male voice intones in the ad, posted Monday on YouTube and across social media. As a shiny Pixel phone rotates on screen, the words 'Ask more of your phone' appear — it's all set to an instrumental version of Dr. Dre's 'The Next Episode.' At last June's WWDC, Apple announced an enhanced Siri as part of its Apple Intelligence suite of tools that leverage AI for higher productivity and creativity. The enhanced Siri, part of the iOS 18 reveal, is designed to take action within and across your apps and use its knowledge of your emails, texts, photos and other information to assist in a more personalized way. While that Siri was originally expected in April, Apple announced in March that the feature would not arrive until later. 'It's going to take us longer than we thought to deliver on these features and we anticipate rolling them out in the coming year,' read a statement from Apple. Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the new Google ad, which is titled 'Soon' and lasts 30 seconds. But amused fans of both Android and iOS had plenty to say. 'Daaaaang taking shots at Apple,' Facebook user Ruben Moreno wrote. Wrote Facebook user Ferdaus Hasan Emon, 'Savage.' Facebook user Arafat Hossain meanwhile, referenced Google's ironic use of a Dr. Dre song in the ad — Apple acquired Beats by Dr. Dre more than a decade ago. 'You troll yourself by music,' Hossain wrote. In the lead-up to the Google Pixel 10 launch at the Aug. 20 Made By Google event, the search giant has been busy trying to draw new customers into the Pixel ecosystem — and make sure existing users stay loyal to their Pixels. In the last couple of weeks, the company has announced discounts on the Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel 9. Earlier, it offered a free year of Google AI Pro to Pixel 9 Pro owners.
