Shah attended the event of Pune Gujarati Bandhu Samaj and inaugurated the Jairaj Sports and Convention centre in Kondhwa. Lauding the contribution of the Gujarati community to the development of the state and country, Shinde said, "Maharashtra and Gujarat have always shown the path of development to the country. The business community's contribution to Maharashtra's development is immense, and we will ensure they do not face any issues while carrying out their businesses in the state.
" The Sena neta then raised the slogan.
The opposition slammed Shinde, alleging he had made the statement to please Shah and "insult" Maharashtra

Dy CMs Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar accompanied Union home minister Amit Shah at the event where Shinde gave the 'Jai Gujarat' slogan. Shah, in his speech, said, "Wherever Gujaratis have gone in the world, they ensure not to get involved in any controversy. They adopt the culture of the place and become an integral part of society."
The opposition criticised Shinde, alleging he wanted to please Shah and "insult" Maharashtra. Shinde said he uttered 'Jai Gujarat' because people from the Gujarati community were present at the event. "After my speech, I said 'Jai Hind, Jai Maharashtra, Jai Gujarat'. Jai Hind is the pride of our country. I said 'Jai Maharashtra' because we are proud of Maharashtra and 'Jai Gujarat' because the Gujarati community, together, had built a sports complex there," he said.
Shinde showed reporters a video of Uddhav Thackeray saying 'Jai Gujarat' at a rally and referred to a poster of Aaditya Thackeray during the election in Worli saying 'Kem Cho Worli.' He read out another line in Gujarati, 'Jalebi aur fafda, Uddhav Thackeray aapda' which, he said, was on UBT Sena's website.
CM Devendra Fadnavis said, "Just because Shinde said Jai Gujarat, it doesn't mean he loves Gujarat more than Maharashtra.
Such parochial thinking doesn't behove the Marathi manoos." He said when a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji was unveiled at Chikodi in Karnataka, Sharad Pawar had said 'Jai Maharashtra, Jai Karnataka'. "Does it mean Pawar loves Karnataka more and Maharashtra less?" Fadnavis asked.
But Ajit Pawar, who was with Shinde at the event, said he did not hear the comment. "I do not know about the issue. I attended two programmes of Shah and left Pune.
Till the time I was there at the event, I do not remember anything of this sort happening there," Pawar told reporters in Kolhapur later in the day.
Shinde said, "Those who criticise us should first look within themselves... Pakistani flags were seen during LS polls, where did the Marathi love go then? Marathi is our identity and Hindutva is our soul. We have worked to grant Marathi the status of a classical language. No compromise with the Marathi language."

The celebration, although branded as apolitical, carries significant political undertones. Both parties have instructed their cadres not to display flags, banners, or party symbols. Still, the event is being closely watched, as both the Sena (UBT) and MNS are struggling to regain electoral ground after poor performances in the 2024 state assembly elections. The Sena (UBT) won 20 seats, while the MNS failed to secure any. Protests, violence, and victory The celebration follows a series of protests led by both parties opposing the state government's April 16 decision to make Hindi compulsory for classes 1 to 5 in Marathi and English medium schools. The backlash led to an amended order on June 17, which made Hindi optional, and the complete withdrawal of the earlier orders on June 29. The same day, Sena (UBT) and MNS leaders burned copies of the government order and announced a protest march. Claiming moral victory after the government's rollback, they decided to convert the protest into a celebration instead. However, the lead-up to the rally has not been without controversy. MNS workers were recently seen assaulting a street vendor for not speaking Marathi, while two people were publicly made to apologise in the presence of Sena (UBT) leader Rajan Vichare, PTI reported. Allies absent, but others join in Although the Congress party supports the anti-Hindi imposition stand, it will not participate in the event. State Congress chief Harshwardhan Sapkal confirmed their absence. The CM has suggested that the recent heart attack deaths in Hassan district may be linked to the vaccination drive. He also claimed the vaccines were 'hastily' approved. Taking a dig at Siddaramaiah, the BJP MP said that the Karnataka government has been speaking about tough legislation, including a seven-year jail term and fine, against the promotion and spread of fake news. 'At the rate at which Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has been speaking, I think someone will register the first complaint against him for spreading #fakenews on #Covid vaccines. The Union government has already clarified on this issue,' he said in a post on 'X'. According to him, the Congress' effort is to demoralise the scientific community, which saved millions of lives during the pandemic. 'I hope someone in the Congress cautions him (Siddaramaiah). Perhaps there is nobody left to caution him because nobody in his own High Command or locally think his government will survive for long. There is no vaccine against dissident activities,' Siroya said in the post.

The Government of India does not take any position or speak on matters concerning beliefs and practices of faith and religion. The government has always upheld freedom of religion for all in India and will continue to do so," MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal told reporters at a media briefing in New Delhi. The current Dalai Lama recently said that his successor would be chosen by the India-based Gaden Phodrang Trust — a non-profit organisation he set up — and not by any other authority. This statement was seen as a message to China.
