Blackpink exceeds 1b views with ‘Pink Venom' music video
Blackpink performed in Paris over the weekend for their Deadline world tour.
South Korean multinational entertainment agency, YG Entertainment announced on Aug 4 that Blackpink's video for 'Pink Venom' has reached 1 billion views on YouTube, becoming the group's ninth music video to do so.
The video reached the milestone in about three years and set a new record for female artists, generating over 90 million plays within 24 hours of its release.
'Pink Venom' was a pre-release track from the group's second album, 'Born Pink.' It topped the iTunes Top Songs chart in 81 regions, and claimed the 22nd spot on both Billboard's Hot 100 and the UK's Official Singles Top 100. The hip-hop tune racked up 100 million Spotify streams in 17 days, as did its most recent single, 'Jump,' last week.
Blackpink performed in Paris over the weekend for their world tour, 'Deadline' and will visit Milan and Barcelona, Spain, before wrapping up the tour's European leg in London. THE KOREA HERALD/ASIA NEWS NETWORK

British pop star Jessie J is facing another health scare less than two months after undergoing surgery for breast cancer. The 37-year-old revealed on social media in June that she was diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer and went for a procedure to treat the disease. But in a post titled 'How I spent the last 24 hours' on Instagram Stories on Aug 3, she revealed she returned to the same hospital ward six weeks post-surgery. She wrote the admission was 'not expected or planned', and she had and still has symptoms that point towards a blood clot in the lung. Clarifying that it is not a blood clot, the Flashlight (2015) singer shared a photo from her hospital bed with an IV canula in her arm. 'They ran a lot of tests, which ended up showing I have an infection (still trying to figure out what) and a little fluid (in) my lungs,' she said. 'Finding it hard to breathe in, but I discharged myself last night (I hate being in hospital) and will continue the investigation as an outpatient.' Jessie J, whose full name is Jessica Cornish, previously disclosed on social media in July 2024 she was diagnosed with obsessive-compulsive disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. And having to change the plans for my career for this year has been frustrating after working so hard to get to the point and excited to do it all. But it's life. I know that. 'And don't get me wrong, getting the all clear was and is incredible, but that result didn't speed up or make the recovery from the surgery any easier physically,' she said. Jessie J wrote a third post on her health scare, saying that it was a reminder to herself to slow down even though she felt like she was at a 'tortoise' pace right now. 'This isn't a speedy recovery. And it isn't meant to be,' she wrote. 'That slow pace has been a hard reality to accept. I love moving and working and being up and active but I can't be right now, and that's what it is. 'And I am finding the strength in knowing that all can be adjusted to align with a slower pace and the support of my very small inner circle.'

US celebrity and influencer Kim Kardashian's multibillion-dollar company Skims recently rolled out a US$48 (S$61.80) piece of headgear that it claims will sculpt the face – scoop up the cheeks, neck and chin and hold them in place – as you sleep. It bears a close resemblance to a post-surgery compression garment, with its chin wrap and Velcro closures. Reactions to this 'shapewear' for the face have been swift, sharp and sweeping, so much so that award-winning actor Anthony Hopkins – who played prolific serial killer Hannibal Lecter in the movie The Silence Of The Lambs – has joined in on the fun. Many have compared the face wrap to the muzzle-like, brownish mask strapped around the head of Dr Lecter in a scene from the movie, in which a senator questions him about her missing daughter. 'These face wraps do not deliver lasting contouring or skin-tightening results,' she said. 'At best, they can reduce fluid retention short term. At worst, overuse may lead to skin irritation, breakouts or circulation issues if worn too tightly or for prolonged periods.' Casual observers say the product is contributing to 'bad self-esteem among young people'. It adds to the many questionable beauty trends that have had people scraping, pulling and pinching at their faces or taping over their lips at night just so they can feel good when they wake up in the morning, they say. ‘I have never stopped missing you': Actress Sora Ma holds memorial service for late husband

SINGAPORE – Actress Sora Ma wrote a sentimental post on social media for her husband, as she held a memorial service for him one year after his death. She married the Singaporean businessman in 2021 and they held their wedding the following year. Ma, 41, gave birth to their son Skye in August 2024 and disclosed in December that her husband had died suddenly in June . He was in his late 40s. The Malaysia-born actress became a Singaporean in January. In a lengthy post on Instagram Stories on Aug 1, Ma wrote that due to her husband's sudden passing, she did not have time to notify many friends then . She therefore held a memorial service on the first anniversary of his death, and attached a black-and-white photo of the event. 'In the past year, even though you are no longer with us, I still feel that you are with me and our child, learning and growing together,' she wrote in Chinese. 'We (our friends and I) never shy away from anything related to you. Instead, we prefer to talk openly about your kindness to everyone, as well as the warmth and influence you brought to everyone . This is our way of remembering, mourning and healing.' Asked by a friend how she managed to get through the difficult time, she said she and her late husband loved each other without regrets. 'When you were alive, we never hesitated to express our love,' she wrote. 'We always gave each other the deepest care and companionship until the very end.' She added: 'I have never stopped missing you in every festival and every special moment.' She said she would raise their child with the same thoughtful love her husband had shown her. 'I often tell my friends that the love you had given me over the past 11 years is more than enough for me to raise Skye well,' she wrote. Ma noted that many people who have benefited from her husband's kindness came for his memorial service. 'I thought you were good and gentle enough, but after hearing everyone share their stories and watching your videos, I realised you were so much better than we could have imagined. I'm so proud of you,' she wrote. 'The good deeds you did in your life, the light you radiated – all of them deserve to be remembered. This world is truly a better place because of you. Please continue to be brave and kind in the other world. We will always love you.' Ma recently held a celebration for her son's first birthday, inviting her celebrity pals such as Zheng Geping, Hong Huifang, Chen Xiuhuan and Apple Hong. Ma posted on Aug 2 several photos with her son from the past year on social media, with the caption: 'Month of August, month of Leo Baby.' 'One year ago, he changed my life forever,' she wrote in English, using the hashtag #SkyeIsOne. 'From sleepless nights to heart-melting cuddles, this first year of motherhood has been the fastest, slowest, most beautiful ride.' She added: 'Thank you, baby, for coming into my life, for pulling me out from the darkest days, and leading me into the warmest sunlight I've ever known.
