MEC says they had been informed that dismembered body parts of some victims were still missing.
The truck and bus drivers survived and were also taken to hospitals.
EFF said the deceased lost their lives following a show of support for the revolution they belonged to.
The EFF has confirmed that the bus that killed 12 people in a tragic accident in KwaZulu-Natal on Tuesday morning was carrying its members.
The deadly accident which according to the KwaZulu-Natal Transport and Human Settlements left ten other passengers seriously injured and 22 slightly injured - happened just after midnight, when the bus collided head-on with a truck on the R34 near Vryheid.
The party said it was saddened by the tragic passing of those who lost their lives in the devastating accident.
EFF said in a statement:
The EFF has confirmed that the transportation was taking members home from our June 16 Rally in Umlazi, KwaZulu-Natal. The EFF sends it deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of all those who have lost their lives.

These fighters, the party said, lost their lives following a show of support for the revolution they belonged to, and they must be remembered as heroes to whom we owe a great debt.
The party said:
These were committed Fighters, who had attended the rally to honour the courage of the youth of 1976 and to continue the struggle for economic freedom. They died in the line of duty, and their lives will never be forgotten… We send our heartfelt condolences to the families and pray for healing to those injured. We will continue to honour the memory of the fallen with action and commitment to the struggle they believed in.
Many more have been injured and are receiving medical attention, the party said, and that the process of identifying the deceased was ongoing.
The party said it was working with relevant authorities to ensure families are informed and supported.
KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport and Human Settlements, Siboniso Duma, said he would get an updated report from the Road Traffic Inspectorate as well as the SA Police Service.
He said his department had been informed that dismembered body parts of some victims were still missing and that the number of fatalities would either decrease or increase
Duma added that some victims were taken to local hospitals and that they were making all efforts to reach out to family members.
The truck and bus drivers survived and were also taken to hospitals.

Family holds balloon release for brother and sister killed in Detroit vehicle crash
Family members of a brother and sister who were killed in a crash earlier this week came together on Friday to remember the duo as they come to terms with what happened. Less than 72 hours ago, Catone and Joshaundra Scott were killed when the vehicle they were in crashed into a furniture building in the early morning hours of July 30. Police believe the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed. A fourth person in the vehicle was listed in critical condition at an area hospital. "I sat at the edge of my bed in disbelief. I had to hear it over and over again, and even when I still heard it, I still didn't believe it," said their cousin, Angel Brinson. Family members say it hasn't hit them that the siblings are gone, especially since Catone Scott, a father of five, was released from prison hours before the crash. "I (had) seen them that same day, like 5 o'clock, coming from Woodward and Manchester, buying his (Catone Scott) outfits," said Kevina Scott, a cousin. The family says it has been a rough few years as they've lost multiple family members. Two weeks ago, they buried an aunt. "It's no breathing in between. It's like we trying to figure out why we getting hit so hard," Kevina Scott said. The family says the siblings were full of life and were close. They say that while Catone Scott was in prison, Joshaundra Scott was the one who stepped in to help his children. As they honor the two people, they seek respect from the community. They also have advice for Metro Detroit residents. "Stop speeding, it's not worth it. You can get your life snatched away just like that," said Brinson.

Hiker dead after falling into waterfall near Squamish, B.C.
SQUAMISH — Police say a hiker has died after falling into a waterfall near Squamish, B.C. RCMP in the community north of Vancouver say they received a call Thursday evening about a hiker who had fallen into Crooked Falls in the Squamish Valley. They say crews from Squamish Search and Rescue responded and found the person, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The Mounties say rescue crews returned to recover the hiker's body on Friday. They say challenging terrain and fading daylight meant recovery hadn't been possible the night before. Police say there is no indication of criminality in the death, which is under investigation by the BC Coroners Service. This report by The Canadian Press was first published Aug. 1, 2025. Boy, 11, thought ‘he was going to die' after being knocked down in hit and run
A young boy who suffered two broken hips in a hit-and-run crash while riding an e-scooter has said: "I thought I was going to die." Bradley Hooper, 11, was riding his cousin's e-scooter when he was hit by a black Vauxhall coming from Sullivan Road into Montague Avenue, Sholing. His mum Hollie Hooper, 30, was told by a witness he went "down like a ragdoll' in the incident on Wednesday just after 7.20pm. Speaking while still in hospital, Bradley said the people in the car 'drove off and left me'. He said: 'I thought I was going to die and thought: 'I love my family, and my mum is my angel'. 'I have scary dreams of them coming to get me and running me over again." Bradley added: 'Thank you to everyone who cares for me and loves me.' Devastated mum-of-four Hollie said Bradley is waiting to see if he needs surgery. She said he is worried about returning home to Sholing in case the drive comes back. Some of the injuries sustained by Bradley Hooper (Image: Hollie Hooper) She said: 'I want to get justice for my son and find out who did this. 'Bradley went flying off the scooter and was screaming in pain. He moved out of the road and onto the pavement where he collapsed. It happened so fast.' Hollie was out shopping at the time and first heard about the crash when her nephew and brother called her. 'I rushed there as soon as I could when they told me and the police were on the scene straight away', she said. 'The driver nearly killed Bradley and I am disgusted and mortified.' In a plea to the public, she said: 'Please come forward. If you are a parent, how would you feel if this was your child? 'It is horrific that someone could leave a child for dead – they left before realising Bradley was alive. 'I want to thank the Sholing and Thornhill community and everyone who has helped us so far.' Hampshire Constabulary confirmed an investigation into the incident is underway. A spokesperson said: 'We were called at 7.21pm on July 30 with reports of a car colliding with a pedestrian on Montague Avenue. 'The pedestrian, an 11-year-old boy, sustained fractures to his hips. 'The car involved did not remain at the scene. 'Enquiries remain ongoing and anyone with information is encouraged to report this directly to police on 101, quoting 44250342256. You can also submit information to us online.'
