Muscat: The Hatta Land Port connecting the UAE and the Sultanate of Oman, and the Port of Sohar are the main gateways for the entry of goods and cargo to the Sultanate of Oman.
The value of imports through Hatta Land Port in the fourth quarter of 2024 was 524 million, accounting for 52 percent of the total value of imports through land ports.
The value of imports through Sohar Port during the same period was RO2,089 million, contributing to 70 percent of the total value of imports through seaports.
It may be noted that major non-oil Omani exports are received by the UAE, Saudi Arabia, India, South Korea, and the United States, while major countries for re-exports are the UAE, Iran, China, and the United States.
The non-Omani imports are mostly from the UAE, China, Kuwait, India, and Saudi Arabia.
The Sultanate of Oman shares a direct land border only with Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

DMW shuts down Manila-based recruitment agency and travel consultancy over illegal hiring for Poland

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has shut down two firms in Manila—Reiven Air Travel Tours & Consultancy and Reliable Recruitment Corporation—for allegedly engaging in illegal recruitment of Filipinos for jobs in Poland. Reiven Air, a non-DMW licensed travel consultancy, partnered with Reliable, a licensed recruitment agency with no job orders for Poland. Their tie-up allegedly created the false impression of a legal recruitment operation. DMW Undersecretary Bernard Olalia, who led the operation, explained that the scheme—known as the 'kabit system'—involves unlicensed firms using licensed agencies as fronts. Applicants were lured with promises of jobs like fruit pickers and factory workers, with salaries of up to ₱90,000, in exchange for a ₱70,000 one-time, non-refundable fee. The closure operation, done in coordination with the Manila Police District, also led to the arrest of suspected recruiters. Both firms will face legal consequences, including the revocation of Reliable's license and inclusion of staff in the DMW's Derogatory List, barring them from future recruitment activities. This marks the 16th closure by DMW this year under the directive of President Marcos Jr., who called for stronger action against illegal recruitment to protect OFWs.

Emirates Launches Daily Airbus A350 Flights to Muscat Ahead of Schedule

Emirates has officially commenced daily Airbus A350 services to Muscat International Airport, marking a major upgrade to its Dubai–Muscat route and reinforcing the airline's commitment to the Omani market. Originally planned for 1 July, the deployment was brought forward by a week. The A350 now operates flight EK 866, departing Dubai at 2:15 am and arriving in Muscat at 3:30 am. The return flight, EK 867, leaves Muscat at 4:40 am and lands in Dubai by 5:55 am—ideal for passengers connecting to onward flights across Europe, the Americas, Africa, and Asia. The three-class aircraft accommodates 312 passengers, featuring 32 lie-flat seats in Business Class, 21 seats in Premium Economy, and 259 in Economy. Designed for enhanced comfort on short and medium-haul routes, the A350 boasts wider aisles, higher ceilings, upgraded lighting, and faster Wi-Fi. All cabins are equipped with Emirates' latest in-flight entertainment system and improved seat ergonomics. Muscat joins a select group of regional cities—including Kuwait, Dammam, and Amman—now served by the A350, as Emirates expands its next-generation fleet. Seven A350s have entered service to date, with the aircraft expected to serve 17 destinations by year-end. To meet peak summer demand, Emirates has also added two extra weekly flights between Dubai and Muscat, operating on Thursdays and Saturdays. News Source: Dubai Media Office

UAE non-oil sector grows steadily, regional tensions weigh on demand

ABU DHABI - The UAE's non-oil private sector grew steadily in June even as regional tensions weighed on demand, and firms ramped up output to tackle backlogs, a survey showed on Thursday. The seasonally adjusted S&P Global UAE Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) edged up to 53.5 in June from 53.3 in May, signalling continued growth in the sector, but new orders increased at their slowest pace in nearly four years. The subindex for new orders fell to 54.5 in June from 56.2 in May, and was the lowest reading since September 2021. The slowdown was attributed to tensions between Israel and Iran, which dampened client demand. David Owen, senior economist at S&P Global Market Intelligence said the impact of the conflict between Israel and Iran was mostly felt on the demand side, with some slowdown in orders. "However, with firms instead able to turn their attention to addressing the substantial level of outstanding impact on overall business conditions was negligible," Owen said. Output growth accelerated as firms sought to reduce backlogs. Supply chain challenges persisted, with delivery times improving at the slowest rate in 14 months, and input costs rose at the slowest pace in nearly two years. UAE non-oil firms remained relatively subdued in their business outlook, the survey showed, even though the level of business confidence rose to its highest since November. Dubai's headline PMI dropped to its lowest level in nearly four years in June to 51.8 from 52.9 the previous month, driven by a sharp slowdown in sales growth amid competitive pressures and weaker tourism. Despite this, business activity rose sharply, and workforce numbers increased for the third consecutive month.
