FRISCO - Well, it looks to be almost that time of year again.

While there are several franchises who have their rookies coming in early and the veterans coming in later, the Cowboys - under new management with first-time head coach Brian Schottenheimer - are wanting to have the whole crew together.
One cohesive force as they go to work and start to figure out how to pare down this 90-man roster into who will be on the "final'' 53-man roster in the fall.
As part of the camp, on August 5, a couple of weeks into the annual Cali visit, the Cowboys will officially hold joint practices with the Los Angeles Rams. ... which has become a near-tradition of sorts.
And then come the preseason meetings ... first with the Rams at 6 p.m. Saturday, August 9 at SoFi Stadium. Then in Week 2 back home against the Baltimore Ravens at 6 p.m. CT at AT&T Stadium, and then the exhibition finale at 7 p.m. on Saturday, August 16, AT&T Stadium against the Atlanta Falcons.

One reason to look forward to all of this: "Real football'' will give fans (and media) something tangible to work with as we fight past the rumors and wild claims ... hopefully see the Micah Parsons contract extension get done, and work through the if's of competitive roster-building.
Onward! To July 21!

James Harden Gets a Raise After Agreeing to Two-Year Extension With Clippers

James Harden Gets a Raise After Agreeing to Two-Year Extension With Clippers originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The first domino of the Los Angeles Clippers' offseason has officially fallen. Shortly after the team was eliminated from this year's NBA playoffs, it was reported that their priority was to take care of James Harden's contract situation before making any other big moves. Advertisement Now that is officially out of the way for the Clippers. Los Angeles Clippers guard James HardenGary A. Vasquez-Imagn Images Harden entered the offseason with a player option for the 2025-26 NBA season that would have been worth $36.35 million. According to NBA insider Shams Charania, Harden has decided to decline that player option and agreed to a new deal with the Clippers that will give him a nice raise. The new contract is worth $81.5 million over the next two seasons and carries a player option for the 2026-27 season. If he ends up picking up the player option next year, his contract will line up with Kawhi Leonard's, who is under contract for two more years himself. Advertisement That would keep the team's two biggest stars on the same timeline as the Clippers attempt to keep their contention window open. Harden is coming off of his best season since leaving the Houston Rockets at the 2021 trade deadline. He stepped up on the offensive end for a Clippers team that struggled to score, bringing his scoring average up to 22.8 points per game after only scoring 16.6 per game during the 2023-24 season. He also contributed 8.7 assists and 5.8 rebounds per game while seeing improvements on the defensive side of the ball. Harden's efforts earned him spot in the All-Star game and his first All-NBA honors since the 2019-20 season. Advertisement Now he's secured himself a nice payday to try and lead the Clippers into the Western Conference's upper echelon and the Clippers can shift their focus to building a contending supporting cast around him and Leonard. Insider believes Steelers' T.J. Watt will become highest-paid defender

The Steelers appear to be laser focused on making T.J. Watt the highest-paid defender in the NFL — at least that's what insider Jeremy Fowler believes. On Sunday's episode of ESPN's SportsCenter, Fowler claimed that the Steelers remain optimistic in contract negotiations, while Watt could usurp the title of highest-paid defender — a title Browns DE Myles Garrett holds: "Steelers, I'm sensing are optimistic they can reach a deal with Watt eventually," Fowler said. "My sense is that he will probably be the highest-paid pass-rusher in the league when this is all said and done. He wants to be a Steeler for life, the Steelers want that, he's a legacy-type player. "They believe at 30 years old he still has several good years left. They're just gonna have to come up with a number and a good guarantee structure. He did miss minicamp, so Pittsburgh has a lot of work to do. But typically, Pittsburgh perks up in these things around training camp and late July." Fowler's comments mirror those of insider Jesse Palmer — who predicted last week that Watt could surpass Garrett's $40 million per year. However, insider Ian Rapoport quickly shot down the buzz, claiming he hadn't heard that exact number being discussed. These insights will continue to fluctuate until Watt puts pen to paper — which is hopefully soon, as July's training camp continues to inch closer.
