Michael Madsen's cause of death shared as Reservoir Dogs star's death certificate released
Madsen's manager, Ron Smith, said he died after suffering a cardiac arrest and authorities at the time didn't expect any foul play. Now, new details have come to light about Michael's condition at the time of his death.
The death certificate, held by the LA County Medical Examiner, revealed that his cardiac arrest was caused by cardiomyopathy, coronary artery disease, and chronic alcoholism. It also notes thromboembolic disease, which causes blood clots, obstructing vessels or arteries.
Despite alcoholism contributing, Michael had been sober for several months at the time of his death. He'd spent years in and out of rehab battling his condition, while also struggling with depression, as well as dealing with the aftermath of a broken marriage.
At the time of his death, Smith said: "In the last two years Michael Madsen has been doing some incredible work with independent film including upcoming feature films Resurrection Road, Concessions and Cookbook for Southern Housewives, and was really looking forward to this next chapter in his life.
"Madsen was also preparing to release a new book called Tears For My Father: Outlaw Thoughts and Poems. Michael Madsen was one of Hollywood's most iconic actors, who will be missed by many."
Michael's son, Luke, who he shared with his ex-wife DeAnna, also shared a moving tribute to his late father, while also mentioning his late brother. Luke said: "Some people's heroes wear capes. And fly shooting lasers out of their eyes. Some people's heroes can fight off armies and overcome anything.
"My hero wore a cowboy hat. My hero stood taller and stronger than any man I've ever met. My hero understood me better than anyone. My Hero is the coolest, most badass human being I know. Not only was my hero a famous tough guy movie star, my hero was my father, and he was a damn good one. Love you, Pops. I'll see you again someday. Tell Hudson I said hi."
His actress sibling Virginia, 63, remembered her brother in a touching statement. She said in a statement to Variety: 'My brother Michael has left the stage. He was thunder and velvet. Mischief wrapped in tenderness.
"A poet disguised as an outlaw. A father, a son, a brother — etched in contradiction, tempered by love that left its mark.' We're not mourning a public figure. We're not mourning a myth - but flesh and blood and ferocious heart. Who stormed through life loud, brilliant, and half on fire. Who leaves us echoes - gruff, brilliant, unrepeatable - half legend, half lullaby.
"I'll miss our inside jokes, the sudden laughter, the sound of him. I'll miss the boy he was before the legend; I miss my big brother. Thank you to everyone reaching out with love and memory. In time, we'll share how we plan to celebrate his life - but for now, we stay close, and let the silence say what words can't."
Hudson, Luke's older brother, sadly took his own life aged just 26 in 2022. The US actor carved out a reputation for his frequent collaborations with famed director Quentin Tarantino, featuring in cinematic hits such as The Hateful Eight, Kill Bill: Vol 1 and 2, and Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.
Madsen's memorable portrayal of Mr Blonde in Reservoir Dogs saw him perform an infamous dance to Stealers Wheel's 1972 classic Stuck In The Middle With You, brandishing a razor in a notorious torture sequence.
Boasting a career that spanned over four decades and included more than 300 titles, Madsen's impact on the film industry was significant, his publicist noted.

When Michael Barton, from Harlow, entered a 6p competition to win a Porsche 911 Convertible, his partner wasn't very pleased. And a few nights later she dreamed he'd won a shopping trolley. With a baby on the way, entering a prize draw might have been at the bottom of her priority list, but she soon apologised, because Michael's name was plucked from the draw and the £75,000 car was delivered to his building site as a complete surprise. Michael, from Harlow in Essex, was busy working on a house extension when Katie Knight, a presenter for the prize draw firm BOTB, turned up with the keys. 'I'm absolutely shaking,' said the 39-year-old. 'Nothing like this ever happens to me. It's amazing. It couldn't have come at a better time – we've got a baby due in four weeks. It's a very exciting time for us.' Michael was surprised by Katie Knight, a presenter from BOTB | BOTB The 911, finished in bright red, was an especially sweet win for the Liverpool fan. 'I couldn't have picked a better colour – this is a bit of me!' he said, grinning as he sat inside and revved the engine. 'The whole experience has been surreal. I've seen videos of other winners online and thought I would give it a go. "I'm a hardworking man, and the past few months I've really been hoping something good would happen.' Katie said: 'Michael's reaction was just brilliant – total disbelief and so much excitement. Brooklyn Beckham divides opinion with cooking tip as he rustles up pasta dish on yacht
Brooklyn Beckham posted a video on his Instagram of him preparing a meal on a luxury yacht, and the star used the clip as a tool to help promote his own hot sauce brand Brooklyn Beckham has split opinion with a video in which he cooks a pasta dish - using water from the ocean. Some fans praised the chef, 26, while others blasted him after he uploaded the clip on Instagram. It showed the former model dip a saucepan into the water, before chopping his tomatoes and adding them to an oiled pan in the industrial kitchen on a luxury yacht. He then adds pasta to the pot of water and lathers his signature Cloud 23 hot sauce on the tomatoes, before he presents his meal. But Brooklyn disgusted some viewers by sourcing his water from the ocean. Although it is not clear which ocean, or indeed sea, Brooklyn is in, Instagram users have been quick to claim the water is likely to be polluted. However, others praised Brooklyn for serving what appeared to be a delicious meal. One comment reads: "When you are sat on the toilet for the 4th time in 30 minutes you will realise that the source where you got the water from wasn't the wisest of moves." Another critic said: "That's disgusting using that water." A further comment states: "Obviously, cooking pasta in sea water where there are boats that dump diesel into the sea and abounds is not really the best alternative you could have chosen." Yet, among a string of comments praising Brooklyn's cooking skills, one person posted: "Nice work! I see you're cooking on a yacht too. Nice one!" Another said: "Love your cooking tips with cloud Brooklyn xx." Another social media user shared: "To be fair, Italian cooks on boats also use a splash of sea water for the flavour it imparts to a fish or pasta dish." In 2023, Brooklyn spoke about his admiration of chefs, explaining: "One of the many things I like about chefs is they are so artistic, they are so hardworking, and it's always every day, every minute of every hour trying to master their craft." He also previously told Variety he'd love to open a pub in Los Angeles one day. In this interview, he said: "I would love to have my own pub. I would love to have my own sauces, knives, pots and pans... Not like a chef – I'm always going to be learning about cooking." Brooklyn and wife Nicola Peltz, who wed in April 2022, are in the midst of an escalating rift with his parents David and Victoria Beckham. Last week, it was revealed Brooklyn and Nicola's Instagram accounts no longer follow his younger brothers Cruz, 20, and Romeo, 22, in the latest family drama. Brooklyn and Nicola are, though, still following Victoria, 51 and 50-year-old David on the social media app.

Award-winning Michael Brawley Big Band marks 30th anniversary with series of gigs
It all began when musician Michael Brawley sent out a call to players in the Hamilton Advertiser back in 1995 in the style of First World War minister Lord Kitchener, which read '(Your) Swing Band Needs You' - and the rest, as they say, is history. It's 30 years since Lanarkshire's award-winning Michael Brawley Big Band first took to the stage - and it all began with an ad in the Hamilton Advertiser. And to mark the anniversary milestone, the marvellous musicians have a number of gigs lined up, including at Glasgow Vintage Vehicle Trust Super Sunday Community & Family Day, at Bridgeton Bus Garage, this Sunday, July 27, performing two sets from 12 noon. Hamilton musician Michael Brawley sent out a call to players in the Hamilton Advertiser back in 1995 in the style of First World War minister Lord Kitchener, which read '(Your) Swing Band Needs You' - and the rest, as they say, is history. The band, which performs solely to raise money for well-meaning and worthy causes, has donated more than £60,000 to charity. Michael, 50, said: "Looking back, I'm proud of what the band has achieved. "I was two-and-a-half years into my degree at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland when I came up with the idea. "I'd played in jazz bands at school and knew there were lots of local players whose instruments were lying under their beds. "Eileen Mortlock, principal music teacher at St. John Ogilvie High School in Hamilton, and her husband, musician Ernie Mortlock, were great supporters. "We rehearsed in the school and our first gig was at a Christmas concert." The band went on to win a raft of awards at the National Concert Band Festival, the UK's largest festival for wind and big bands. The players secured a platinum award, two gold awards and a silver award at events in Cardiff at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Michael, who has a distinguished career as a musician and music teacher, still plays with the band on occasion. The group has been run for many years by a committee of players and its current musical director is Duncan Parkinson. Michael said: "Being a musician is part of something that you are. If you have that compulsion, you can't choose not to follow that path. "The band has such a good energy about it, and I'm thrilled that there are players still there who were there at the start. Here's to the next 30 years." The band's schedule in the past year alone has included gigs at the iconic B-listed Kelvingrove Bandstand in Glasgow, Gleddoch Golf & Spa Resort, Hamilton Pride, Glasgow Vintage Vehicle Trust (GVVT) and Coatbridge's Summerlee Museum. As well as the gig at Glasgow Vintage Vehicle Trust Super Sunday Community & Family Day, at Bridgeton Bus Garage this weekend, locally, the band is performing at an event to mark 150 years of Lodge St Bryde in Uddingston on August 22 at 7pm. This is open to all and donations to charity are welcome on the door. And the band returns to GVVT on September 7 for the Blue Lights, Buses and Troops open day, celebrating the services, emergency and military; for more information, visit or the band's Facebook page. *Don't miss the latest headlines from around Lanarkshire.
