Line of Duty star's London-set period drama is streaming on Netflix as new reboot gets update
John Galsworthy's novel series The Forsyte Saga is coming back for a new reboot, which has just received a major update.
The Forsytes, starring Doctor Who's Millie Gibson, hasn't even premiered season 1 yet but has already been renewed for a second season.
Meanwhile, the previous adaptation – starring Line of Duty's Gina McKee – is currently available to stream on Netflix and ITVX now.
Running for two seasons across 2002 and 2003, The Forsyte Saga's cast also includes Homeland's Damian Lewis, Sherlock's Rupert Graves, Bad Boys: Ride or Die's Ioan Gruffudd, and Andor's Ben Miles.
It follows the titular well-off family, with a specific focus on the arrogant Soames, who is in loveless marriage with Irene and views his wife as a possession more than a person.

McGee, who played Jackie Laverty in the first season of Line of Duty, took on the role of Irene in ITV's adaptation – the character being played by Gibson in Channel 5's new reboot.

BBC Apologizes for Accidentally Spoiling ‘Doctor Who' Finale in News Report
The BBC's apology for posting about that shocking Doctor Who finale reveal before the whole world got a chance to watch comes a little too late. For many, the spoiler was prominently featured online as soon as Ncuti Gatwa took his bow and regenerated into the franchise's favorite companion, Rose Tyler, played by Billie Piper. Was she some sort of Rose variant, the role she originated in the series, meant to wrap things up with the David Tennant 14th Doctor running around? We don't yet know. However, her appearance sent the internet buzzing as soon as the finale aired, including a spoiler-filled headline on the BBC itself, which read, 'Ncuti Gatwa regenerates into Billie Piper as he leaves Doctor Who.' A few weeks after the Doctor Who finale, the BBC has addressed its fans who called out the company for the spoilery news story. In a statement the BBC shared, 'Some people contacted us to complain that the headline gave away the ending, spoiling this Doctor Who episode for them. Others requested that the BBC be more conscious of spoilers going forward, particularly in the use of headlines.' The explanation continued, 'BBC journalists are of course entitled to use their judgment to decide which stories to cover and the manner in which they are reported. We also want our headlines to be as informative as possible. Although every story is different, we have discussed your concerns on this occasion with senior editors and we will be mindful of your views for future coverage.' As an American viewer, I can attest that the finale didn't get uploaded onto Disney+ until later than it aired in the UK; that was no surprise since it often felt as if the show was almost hidden among Disney+'s offerings, with inconsistently timed uploads that missed UK scheduling. I stayed up until midnight in my attempt to not get spoiled but eventually gave up waiting—and I was among the fans who encountered the spoiler through an official post before getting a chance to watch the finale. It was a deflating disappointment on brand with how the BBC and Disney's partnership went about handling its 15th Doctor, who deserved so much better. Want more io9 news? David Tennant Says He Had His "Eye On" the Reed Richards Role in FANTASTIC FOUR Before Pedro Pascal Was Cast — GeekTyrant
David Tennant, best known for playing the Doctor on Doctor Who , was hoping to take on another sci-fi role in the upcoming Marvel film, The Fantastic Four: First Steps . The actor wanted to play Reed Richards, aka Mister Fantastic, but that role ultimately went to Pedro Pascal. Tennant opened up about his previous ambitions during a panel conversation at MCM Comic Con in London, where he was asked by a fan if there were any villains or superheroes he would like to portray that he hasn't gotten the chance to yet. Tennant acknowledged that he struck gold with the mind-controlling abusive antagonist Killgrave in Jessica Jones , but he added that there's another MCU role he would have also liked to have landed. 'In terms of superheroes, I don't know, I did slightly have my eye on Reed Richards, and unfortunately, it looks like they've gone in a different direction,' he said tongue-in-cheek, 'Although if it has to be someone, I'm happy for it to be Pedro Pascal, frankly.' As the audience whooped upon the mention of Mister Fantastic himself, Tennant agreed, exclaiming a resounding 'yes!' He continued, 'I would have quite liked to be Reed Richards, I'd quite like to be able to do all that,' reaching out in front of him and making a sound effect to demonstrate the character's elasticity power. 'So I'll stick with that even though it's gone, even though it's gonna be a while before there's another go at that, I think, unfortunately.' He concluded, 'I think Pedro Pascal is great. I'm very, very pleased that he exists.' Aren't we all? Pascal is joined in the film by Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman; Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch; and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing. In the film, 'Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, they must defend Earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner).' Additional roles are being played by Paul Walter Hauser, John Malkovich, and Natasha Lyonne. The Fantastic Four: First Steps hits theaters on July 25, 2025. via: Deadline

First Look at Duncan Jones' Animated ROGUE TROOPER Brings 2000 AD's War-Torn World to Life — GeekTyrant
Director Duncan Jones' animated adaptation of Rogue Trooper has been in the works since 2018, but after years of silence, we finally have something tangible to feast our eyes on, thanks to a new reveal from Empire Magazine. The first official stills are here, and they give us a solid glimpse at the gritty, stylized world Jones has been building, along with our first look at the blue-skinned soldier himself. Aneurin Barnard ( Doctor Who ) leads the charge as the titular Genetic Infantryman, Rogue, a genetically-engineered soldier on a personal mission for revenge. The stills also reveal two of the story's more eccentric villains: Mr. Brass and Mr. Bland, played by What We Do in the Shadows duo Jemaine Clement and Matt Berry. For fans of the original 2000 AD comic, created by Gerry Finley-Day and Watchmen artist Dave Gibbons in 1981, this project has been a long time coming. The story follows Rogue as he hunts down the Traitor General who betrayed his regiment, accompanied by the consciousness of his fallen brothers, who now live on in his equipment. It's a dark, weird, and emotionally charged take on war, sci-fi, and loyalty that feels right at home in Jones' wheelhouse. The voice cast is stacked with recognizable talent. In addition to Barnard, the film features Hayley Atwell ( Captain America ), Jack Lowden ( Slow Horses ), Daryl McCormack ( Good Luck to You, Leo Grande ), Reece Shearsmith ( Inside No. 9 ), Diane Morgan ( Cunk on Earth ), Alice Lowe ( Black Mirror ), Asa Butterfield ( Sex Education ), and Sean Bean ( Game of Thrones ). While the full breakdown of roles hasn't been revealed, we do know Lowden will voice Gunnar, McCormack is Helm, and Shearsmith plays Bagman. These are the voices of Rogue's fallen comrades, who are now embedded into his gun, helmet, and backpack, respectively. It's a setup that gives the story its unique identity and a good dose of dark irony. Jones has been passionate about this project for years, and this first look shows that it's got texture, personality, and a sense of scale that fans of the comics will recognize. And while we don't yet have a release date, these early images suggest we're inching closer to a battlefield worth exploring.
