Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge durability test ends in a surprising result
After the mandatory comparison between the S25 Edge's thin frame and various household objects (plus the less-mandatory spattering the phone with ice cream), Zack's video begins the dissection process with his mineral picks, in order to figure out how scratch-resistant the display is.
The Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 material Samsung uses still scratches at the same Moh hardness levels as other flagship phones with different Gorilla Glass displays — light marks at level 6 and deeper ones at level 7.
The Galaxy S25 Edge also withstands 30 seconds of flame from a lighter. Hopefully, your phone won't be exposed to fire like this, but it's good reassurance to have all the same.
But we were all waiting for one thing in this video: the bend test. It's surprising how many phones fail to survive an attempt to fold it in half, given how thin modern phones can be. I'll admit I was nervous for the Galaxy S25 Edge as Zack prepared to snap the phone like he was breaking off a chunk of chocolate.
However, likely due to the Galaxy S25 Edge's titanium construction, the phone barely even flexed. A small panel gap opened up when bending the phone from the front, but nothing broke, leaving the phone still operable. Although, you'd probably still want to take it in for repairs to ensure the phone remains IP68 water resistant.
So, durability fortunately seems to not be an issue for the Galaxy S25 Edge, especially with the help of the best Galaxy S25 Edge cases for additional peace of mind and defence against scratches. However, it's only one consideration to make when looking at buying Samsung's new thin flagship.

You may well like the look and feel of this light-but-large Galaxy phone, or its big and bright display, or its AI powers. But bear in mind that the small frame has led to a shorter-than-average battery life, one fewer camera than other S25 models and slow charging speeds despite the price of the phone. We also found it to not be offensively loud, even on its highest setting. TP-Link Deco XE75 Wi-Fi 6E mesh system for $250 (29 percent off with code DECOXE75): Our top pick for the best mesh Wi-Fi system, this Deco XE75 three-pack is easy to set up and provides excellent performance with no-frills. You'll be able to see both live feeds in the Ring app, and they can send you motion alerts and let you speak to people on the other end of the camera when you're not at home. Amazon Fire TV Cube for $90 ($50 off): Amazon's most powerful streaming device, the Fire TV Cube can play 4K video with Dolby Vision and HDR10+, plus it supports Wi-Fi 6E and has a built-in Ethernet port for those who want a hardwired connection. Kindle Scribe for $260 ($140 off): The Scribe is one of the best E-Ink tablets you can buy at the moment, and certainly the top pick if you want a writable table that also excels as an ereader. It provides a great reading and writing experience, thanks in part to its ability to access the entire Kindle ebook library, and it has handy Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive and Dropbox integration. Prime Day is Amazon's members-only shopping event, which means you'll have to be a Prime subscriber on Prime Day to take advantage of most of the savings. Amazon still offers a 30-day free trial to new Prime subscribers, so you can start your free trial closer to July and participate in the event. Amazon Prime Day 2025 will be back this year on July 8 through July 11. Amazon Prime Day typically comes around annually in July. In the last few years, Amazon has also had its "Big Deal Days" in October, which is effectively a second Prime Day and the unofficial kickoff to the holiday shopping season. Prime subscribers can go to Amazon's site on Prime Day to see all of the exclusive deals they have access to. Prime subscribers do not have to do anything additional to get Prime Day sales: the discounts you see on product pages will show up in your cart automatically. If you're not a Prime subscriber and you go to Amazon to shop on Prime Day, you'll likely see tons of items on sale but only "with Prime;" those discounts will not be available to those who are not active Prime subscribers. Technically yes, but even if you do not pay for a Prime membership, you should still check out Amazon on Prime Day. While most Prime Day deals will be exclusively available to subscribers, there are always a handful of sales available to all shoppers. Amazon distinguishes between them very clearly: you'll see "Prime exclusive" on product pages near the deal pricing on the discounts that are only available to paying members. Separately, it's very likely that other retailers like Walmart, Target and Best Buy will have their own competing Prime Day sales during that time frame, too. So if you're not keen on shopping at Amazon at all, it's worth checking out other retailers during the week of Prime Day to see if they are matching Prime Day deal prices.

Samsung is about to find out if Ultra is enough
I don't often get asked about the phones I'm testing when I'm out and about, unless it's a folding phone. Then I usually hear some version of the same thing: 'Oh, I thought about getting one of those! But then I just got a [insert slab-style phone name here].' My anecdotal data matches the actual sales figures; there are many more people curious about folding phones than there are buyers of folding phones. Samsung would very much like that to not be the case, and, by all indications, it's about to pull out all the stops at at its Unpacked event on July 9th. But is putting the Ultra name on a folding phone enough? The weak sales are not for lack of trying — Samsung has been trying to sell us on foldables for a good chunk of the last decade, and Google also got in the game a couple of years ago. Motorola has had substantial success selling clamshell-style flip phones; Counterpoint Research found that the brand's foldable market share grew 253 percent year-over-year in 2024. But that's a bigger piece of a very small pie. TrendForce estimated that foldables made up just 1.5 percent of the overall smartphone market in 2024. In the US, Samsung was the earliest and loudest folding phone maker, but a half dozen iterations of folding phones hasn't managed to make a significant dent. It didn't help that Samsung's foldable lineup last year was a barely warmed-over version of the one from a year before. The Z Flip 6 was a spec bump with some software improvements; the Fold 6 trimmed a few millimeters here, added a few there, and laid flatter when you opened it — not exactly gripping stuff. Lucky for us, Samsung seems to have more excitement planned this time around. The company has all but confirmed that we'll get an Ultra-branded Fold for the first time, with a thinner profile to rival the recent efforts from Honor and Oppo. The Z Flip 7 is likely to get a bigger, Razr-style screen that covers most of the front panel, and we might see a cheaper FE version with the old cover screen design. That all seems to address a couple of common complaints about foldables: they're too pricey and come with too many tradeoffs compared to a slab-style phone. I'm not quite sure it'll be enough, though. Foldables remain more susceptible to damage from dust than a standard flagship phone — and repairs can be pricier. Despite saying years ago that it's pursuing full dustproofing, Samsung doesn't seem to have cracked the code on a fully IP68-rated foldable just yet. Taking a chance on an expensive phone that's less durable than your typical $1,000 flagship? That's kind of a big ask, especially with prices on everything else we buy going up, too. It's not all doom and gloom for foldables, however. Analysts are putting a lot of stock in rumors of a folding phone from Apple coming in 2026. An iFold or whatever it might be called could help expand the market, at least in the US, and maybe that rising tide would float Samsung's boat, too. Maybe a couple of new models hitting different price segments is enough to get Samsung's marketshare growing again — a strategy that has worked well for the company in the past. Maybe an Ultra foldable with ultra specs will convince some people who were on the fence about folding phones. Alright, those who own Whirlpool have been long-time sufferers. One of the stocks I first bought in 1983, it's pretty much the same price. LG and Samsung, by the way, are from Korea, and Haier's from China, they bought the GE Appliance business. But now they're facing some big steel tariffs. Suddenly, Whirlpool's in the driver's seat.
