Kevin McNulty was in the car behind his three kids - aged seven, 12 and 13 - when the ride derailed at high speed and careered into the waltzer he was in.
He told how his kids were "very, very lucky" not to have suffered any serious injuries during the dramatic ordeal.
In footage, filmed by one of the youngsters, their terrified screams can be heard as the ride swerves off the rails and ploughs into a nearby speaker.
Mr McNulty shared his experience on social media, writing: "It then smashed about the place crashing into the side off the track, thankfully there was a heavy large speaker that they collided with or they would have been through the whole thing and then the ending would have been a completely different story ( a thought I can't stop thinking about).
"The shows continued to go (not the Waltzers) but place should have been shut down for a full inspection.
"It was like something you see in the movies and my kids are very, very lucky that they managed to get out of this still walking."
GCE said it "sincerely apologises" to the families impacted by the incident and insisted that it is "working tirelessly to assist in the ongoing investigation" into what happened.
Officials have since decided to shut the event down to allow third-party investigators to take a closer look.
In a statement, GCE said: "We are truly sorry for the distress caused by the incident at our event. Public safety at our events has always been, and continues to be, our top priority.
"All rides at our events undergo extensive safety testing in line with government guidelines, including daily safety checks, and are also inspected by an independent third party safety inspection body (the Amusement Device Inspection Procedures Scheme, or Adips).

"This incident is now being investigated by third-party inspection bodies and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
"We have decided to close the event to allow for investigation to take place.
"All tickets purchased for future dates will be refunded automatically through our ticketing agent, Skiddle.
"Once again we are truly sorry for the distress this has caused."
An HSE spokesperson said: "HSE is aware of the incident and is making inquiries."

Teen rapist jailed for seven years after after horrific campaign of abuse

Kyle Jackson, from Paisley, has been described by police as 'a dangerous man" after he carried out horrifying crimes across a number of years. A Scots teenager who carried out a series of serious sexual crimes over a two-year period has been jailed for seven years. Kyle Jackson, 19, from Paisley, was sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow on Wednesday, July 23, after being found guilty of rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault. His campaign of abuse against multiple victims took place between September 2020 and October 2022. Jackson was convicted following a major police investigation and a trial at the High Court in Paisley last month. The court also handed him a non-harassment order, designed to protect his victims from further harm. Detective Sergeant Jonathan Campbell, who led the investigation, described Jackson as 'a dangerous man who carried out these horrifying crimes across a number of years.' He added: 'This outcome was made possible thanks to the victims who came forward and reported him and I commend them for the strength they have shown during the investigation and court proceedings. Jackson had earlier been found guilty of a total of 10 charges following a trial in Paisley including the repeated rape of both teenage victims. The offences occurred between 2020 and 2022 at different locations in the Renfrewshire town. The families of the two rape survivors said in a joint statement: 'They have to live with the trauma of what he has done to them for the rest of their lives. 'The crimes that were committed by Kyle Jackson were downright evil and we now feel justice has been served by the jury finding him guilty of the charges.' Judge Sheena Fraser said she accepted Jackson was of a similar age to the victims, but that each girl had been 'vulnerable'. She told him: 'You took advantage of them. 'I have had the benefit of victim impact statements from each, which outline the harm that you caused them. 'It is clear that you do not take any responsibility for what you have done.' Detective Sergeant Jonathan Campbell, from Police Scotland, said: 'Kyle Jackson is a dangerous man who carried out these horrifying crimes across a number of years, and he will now face the consequences of his despicable actions in prison. Jackson repeatedly preyed on the first girl who was also the victim of his violent temper as he choked her unconscious. The sex attacks included him cutting holes in the tights that she was wearing. The other traumatised girl suffered a similar ordeal at his hands. Jackson raped her despite her desperate pleas for him to stop. Jurors heard that he separately put this girl in a headlock, grabbed her wrists and hands as well as headbutted her. Sick Jackson even took photos of her as she wept. The fiend, also of Paisley, had denied the charges. Paul Nelson KC, defending, said: 'He continues to maintain his innocence. 'The court will sentence on the jury's verdict and not what Mr Jackson protests, one way or another.' He will also be supervised for a further three years on his release. The judge put him on the sex offenders list and banned him from approaching or contacting either victim for an indefinite period.

Ex-Police Scotland chief announces retirement after being cleared in sexual offences probe

Will Kerr worked for Police Scotland before moving on to Devon and Cornwall Police in December 2022. A former top Scots cop who has been suspended from his job for over two years has announced he is retiring. Will Kerr, who was Deputy Chief Constable at Police Scotland, was suspended as chief constable of Devon and Cornwall Police in 2023 after it emerged he was under investigation following allegations of sexual offences. In April this year prosecutors in Northern Ireland said a decision had been taken not to bring charges against him. Kerr was a former assistant chief constable of the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI). He had worked for the PSNI for 27 years, later joining Police Scotland before moving to Devon and Cornwall Police in December 2022. The force's police and crime commissioner, Alison Hernandez, said it had been "mutually agreed" with Mr Kerr for him to retire, which would allow for "new and stable" leadership to be appointed. A misconduct investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) in England continues although this was not related to the criminal allegations investigated in Northern Ireland. In a statement, Kerr said: "Having been cleared in relation to what I believe were malicious criminal allegations in Northern Ireland, I have decided that it's now in the best interests of my family and the force that I retire as chief constable. "After nearly 36 years of public service, this is not the way I would have chosen to retire but the force, and communities across Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, deserve stable leadership in policing. "I remain a strong advocate for effective accountability in policing, but that accountability process must be fair, timely and proportionate. Sadly, like too many other officers, that has not been my experience over the past two years. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! "I continue to wish all of the highly committed officers and staff in Devon and Cornwall Police well and, despite the personal challenges of the past few years, I remain proud of the value of community-focused policing, and a firm supporter of the people within its ranks. I would also like to thank PCC Alison Hernandez for her consistent support over the past two years, and her commitment to fair and proportionate justice." Hernandez added: "Suspension from duty is a neutral act and there is always a presumption of innocence until proved otherwise. "I have now agreed Mr Kerr's departure from the force to allow processes for new and stable leadership to take Devon and Cornwall Police forward as this is now in the best interests of all parties. "Mr Kerr's skills and experience will be a loss to UK policing. I remain frustrated at the amount of time this investigation has taken and the way that cross jurisdictional issues have lengthened the process during separate investigations by the Police Service of Northern Ireland, Police Ombudsman for Northern Ireland and now the IOPC. "His departure does not signal guilt, but instead a deep appreciation of the need for Devon and Cornwall Police to move forward with stable leadership from a substantive chief constable. "James Vaughan will continue as interim chief constable until a new recruitment process is complete. In accordance with police misconduct regulations, the investigations will continue."
