UEFA postpones decision on Crystal Palace's European place
Outgoing Palace shareholder John Textor has an interest in French club Lyon, who qualified for the same competition.
UEFA announced on Monday it needed more time to make a ruling and said Lyon had reached a settlement which would exclude them from European competition next season if a decision to relegate them to the French second tier was upheld.
That relegation is the subject of an appeal by the French club.
Lyon were relegated due to financial difficulties by French football's financial regulator, the DNCG.
Last week it was announced Textor had agreed to sell his shareholding in Palace to New York Jets owner Woody Johnson. It was announced on Monday he had resigned from his leadership positions at Lyon as well.
Whether any of that assists Palace's chances remains to be seen.
Palace's case has been examined under article five of UEFA's club competition regulations, which state that as of March 1 this year, clubs wishing to be eligible for qualification in 2025-26 had to be able to demonstrate that no individual or legal entity had control or influence over more than one club participating in the same competition.
Where two or more clubs fail to meet the criteria, only one can be entered, with Lyon's better league position appearing to put them ahead of Palace.

Lyon said in a statement the settlement agreement they had signed with UEFA's club financial and control body (CFCB) meant the club 'could therefore participate in next season's Europa League, subject to a favourable outcome of the appeal of the DNCG decision'.
That would indicate Lyon's participation hinges on the success of their appeal, but what is unclear is whether UEFA might admit Palace as well if it is satisfied requirements have been met under multi-club ownership rules – or only admit Palace if Lyon's relegation is upheld.
Palace have been contacted for comment.

I used to go to the Champions League nights at Stamford Bridge when I was younger. Stuff like that, it's just really exciting. "I remember watching Juventus when Trevoh Chalobah scored. When we won, obviously, watching it on TV. So just days like that. I think I was on TikTok and a video came up from when Trev scored. And I was like: 'Hopefully one day that could be me.'' Acheampong has been a target for clubs - including Borussia Dortmund - for a loan move for the coming season but the Londoner is focused on staying at Chelsea and the quarter final with Palmeiras on Friday. He added: 'I just focus on my football. Hopefully we win our next game and win the tournament. I'm really enjoying it. It's good to play in nice weather. It's been fun.'

Chelsea dealt blow in pursuit of £43m transfer target
Nottingham Forest appear to have stolen a march on Chelsea in the race to sign Malick Fofana after agreeing a deal with Lyon to sign the winger. Fofana emerged as one of Lyon's brightest young stars following his arrival from Gent in January 2024, making 41 appearances across all competitions with 11 goals and six assists to his name last season. The 20-year-old also caught the eye during Lyon's Europa League campaign, but could be one of many players to leave the club this summer due to their financial troubles. Fofana is likely to command a fee in the region of £43million, with Chelsea one of several top European clubs interested. Manchester United interested in ambitious move for experienced PSG midfielder
Manchester United are interested in Paris Saint-Germain and Spain midfielder Fabian Ruiz, but a successful move could prove very difficult to pull off. The 29-year-old was a big part in PSG's immense season last time round as they completed a treble of the Champions League, Ligue 1 and Coupe de France. The Spaniard made 58 appearances across all competitions, 17 of which came in the successful Champions League campaign. Ruiz started the final against Inter Milan alongside Vitinha and Joao Neves, the midfield trio which was hugely influential over the season under Luis Enrique. After plenty of fine performances it is no surprise that Ruiz has attracted attention and Manchester United are reportedly admirers of the former Napoli man. French publication Foot Mercato report that there is interest from Saudi Arabia, specifically from Al-Nassr, and also from Old Trafford. It is not the first time the Red Devils have been linked with Ruiz, as the English team were named as suitors for him when he made the switch from Napoli to PSG in 2022. A deal to sign Ruiz will be far from easy to secure, though, given the contrasting fortunes of Manchester United and PSG of late. The French champions announced themselves as the best team in Europe last season, with their 5-0 demolition of Inter Milan in the Champions League final leaving little doubt over that. Whereas the Red Devils finished 15th in the Premier League table and their defeat to Tottenham in the Europa League final meant they missed their final chance to play Champions League football – or European football of any brand – next season. PSG also do not want to let Ruiz go, with the Spaniard an important part of Enrique's plans, as he was throughout the 2024-25 season. The manager said of Ruiz earlier this year: 'I'm very happy with what he brings on and off the pitch. He can still improve, like everyone else. He always plays hard, he's always ready to play a minute or 90, he's very important for us, I'm very happy with his performances. 'He's sometimes been criticized, but he's one of my best midfielders. He knows how to play around his teammates. He can make assists, play between the lines, play without the ball, create chances, he has a good shot. 'We mustn't forget that he was voted the best player at Euro 2024.' The midfielder is under contract in Paris until 2027 and an extension is certainly a possibility if PSG want to guarantee that he will not be tempted away. While not in the same class as Ruiz, Leicester City's Wilfred Ndidi is reportedly a name on their radar as he is available for just £9m due to a release clause in his Foxes contract. Goalkeeper Andre Onana's future is also uncertain and a replacement could be brought in, while other arrivals may depend on departures as the likes of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Antony are on the transfer list but agreeing deals for the forwards, who are on huge contracts, is not easy.
