Chelsea starlet Acheampong hoping Blues 'uncle' can help Champions League dream
Josh Acheampong grew up listening to the Champions League anthem - and now cannot wait to run out to the music himself.
Acheampong, 19, joined Chelsea as an eight-year-old and went to big European games at Stamford Bridge as a kid when he could only dream of making the first team. Chelsea defender Acheampong has already played in the Club World Cup and is relishing the experience of playing in the United States with his own 'uncle' looking out for him.
Acheampong revealed teammate Tosin Adarabioyo looks after the youngsters coming through which has earned him a friendly nickname in the dressing room.
England youth international Acheampong said: 'Tosin is the oldest in the team. He gives me advice if I need to ask him any questions. He'll get me in the gym and stuff like that, so he's good. He's known as Uncle Tosin.
'He gives advice like to stay focused. Always, every day, try your best, work your hardest, do extras. Obviously, there's tough days. Training might be tough, you might play a bad game, but you've got to try and stay focused.
'Not a lot of people can say they've come to the US to play football. All my school friends and stuff like that. Whenever I show them videos and stuff, they're all really excited for me.
'I was thinking about playing in the Champions League the other day, to be fair. I used to go to the Champions League nights at Stamford Bridge when I was younger. Stuff like that, it's just really exciting.
"I remember watching Juventus when Trevoh Chalobah scored. When we won, obviously, watching it on TV. So just days like that. I think I was on TikTok and a video came up from when Trev scored. And I was like: 'Hopefully one day that could be me.''
Acheampong has been a target for clubs - including Borussia Dortmund - for a loan move for the coming season but the Londoner is focused on staying at Chelsea and the quarter final with Palmeiras on Friday.
He added: 'I just focus on my football. Hopefully we win our next game and win the tournament. I'm really enjoying it. It's good to play in nice weather. It's been fun.'

Real Madrid beat Juventus 1-0 in the Club World Cup on Tuesday night in Miami, with Los Blancos booking a place in the quarter-finals of the competition. The match started slowly at the Hard Rock Stadium with both sides trading blows in the first half, but it sprung into life when Gonzalo Garcia headed in from Trent Alexander-Arnold's cross. Madrid dominated from there as Juventus slowly faded, with the Italians simply unable to put together any spell of sustained attacking pressure as Madrid closed the game out well. And it was a composed display from Xabi Alonso's side, who have now booked a quarter-final tie against either Borussia Dortmund or Monterrey. Real Madrid Thibaut Courtois, 6 Had little to do but was fine when called upon. He'll face tougher tests in the upcoming rounds. Antonio Rudiger, 6 Was solid overall and did enough to put off Kolo Muani with that early chance. Aurelien Tchouameni, 7 Marshalled the Madrid defence well and was solid throughout. Dean Huijsen, 7 Defended well when needed as was solid in possession too. Had little to do in truth. Substitutes Kylian Mbappe, 6 – Was central to the Madrid attacking effort after coming on, and was a real threat. Luka Modric, 6 – showed flashes of his brilliance even in a tiny 10-minute cameo. Daniele Rugani, 6 Was solid enough in parts and wasn't at fault for the goal, though wilted under the sustained Madrid pressure later on. Lloyd Kelly, 6 As with the rest of the back three, was solid in the first half but wilted a little in the early period of the second. Came off injured. Alberto Costa, 6 Managed to keep Vini Jr fairly quiet and didn't wilt when Mbappe came on, though didn't offer enough going forward. Manuel Locatelli, 6 Was never able to stamp his authority on the midfield but showed a good passing range. Kephren Thuram, 6 Was excellent in possession at times but was mostly unable to contest the physical midfield battle with Madrid. Andrea Cambiaso, Offered a wide threat and helped keep the width for his side, though couldn't find that final bit of quality in attacking areas. Francisco Conceicao, 5 Fired a header straight at Courtois early on. Was threatening at time but too often guilty of not making enough of his possession, and was hooked before the hour mark. Kenan Yildiz, 7 Was influential throughout and posed a constant threat to the Madrid defence, with most of Juve's attacking play going though him. Randal Kolo Muani, 6 Was a constant threat too but missed a golden chance to make it 1-0 early on, and faded as the game went on. Substitutes Nico Gonzalez, 6 – Was industrious when he came on, trying to make things happen, but could do little to help a limp Juve attack. Rodgers on excitement of new Celtic signings this season
After a productive summer break, Rodgers is now focused on preparing his squad both physically and mentally for the upcoming challenges. Rodgers told the club media: "I ate well, drank well, exercised, and spent time with family. "But obviously, happy to be back again and getting ready." The return to Lennoxtown invigorates him: "When you drive up the hill and you smell the grass again, then it excites you for the season ahead." A high tempo is crucial this summer, especially for key players involved in international duties. Rodgers said: "We have to manage that, of course, so that they get enough rest and recovery. "Every player's program is adapted to ensure that they get enough rest, but also to bring them back and get them up to speed physically." The importance of this pre-season is amplified by the looming two-legged Champions League play-off, the first time Celtic have had to qualify for the tournament proper since 2021. Rodgers said: "Pre-season always is a tense, difficult period when you're one of the big clubs, because they are never pre-season friendlies, I always call them tests. "But then you add into that the qualification for the Champions League, you're trying to get to the end point that little bit quicker." The return of Kieran Tierney after his spell at Arsenal is one of the summer's standout moves. Rodgers believes it's a move as much about identity and culture as it is about footballing quality. He said: "The players that have come through the system here are so important. "The affinity they have with the club, they understand the values of Celtic. "For me, they should always be at the heart of the club." Rodgers is also keen to see the impact of new signings, Swedish forward Benjamin Nygren and 19-year-old striker Callum Osmand from Fulham's academy. He said: "Benjamin's a guy who has really developed from being a really talented young player. "He's got real good physicality as well. "So I'm really looking forward to seeing him adapt to how we play." On Osmand, he said: "He wants to be part of a first-team setup where he can come and grow and develop. "He's got bags of pace, scores goals, and was really coveted by a number of teams. "We're delighted to get Callum up here. "We see him as a really exciting young talent." Rodgers also paid tribute to Scott Bain and Greg Taylor, who have moved on. He said of Bain: "Bainy maybe didn't play the number of games as a goalkeeper that he maybe would have liked. "But he was always very loyal and always very supportive of the goalkeepers that were in front of him." On Taylor, whose move to Greek side PAOK was confirmed on Tuesday, he said: "I've made it clear all the way along I'd love to have kept Greg. "He was a brilliant servant, a brilliant player for the club, but also a really good guy off the pitch." Rodgers confirmed that more signings are likely before the season begins. He said: "We're not needing a major overhaul of the squad, but freshness is so important. "We've done some really good business up until now. "I see us doing more, and to get us set up for what will hopefully be a really exciting season."
