Court extends Majithia's judicial custody till Aug 14

Chandigarh: A Mohali local court on Saturday extended the judicial custody of former Akali minister Bikram Singh Majithia by 14 days until Aug 14. The court also directed police to produce him again before the court through video conferencing after the expiry of his judicial custody. Majithia appeared before the court via video conferencing. The court also deferred the hearing on Majithia's jail barrack change application till Aug 5. Majithia's lawyer raised concerns about his security in jail, telling the court that the leader was kept with an accused who was sentenced to death for killing three youths, one of whom was a girl. Additionally, another accused was booked under Pocso Act. Further arguments on his regular bail application were to be heard on Aug 4 and then on Aug 6. Majithia moved an application requesting that his barrack in the jail be changed. His lawyers argued that as an MLA and a former minister, he should be given special facilities of the orange category according to jail rules and should be kept separate from other prisoners. Majithia was arrested from his house in Amritsar in a disproportionate assets case, registered against him at the Mohali Vigilance Bureau headquarters on June 25. The next day, vigilance sleuths produced Majithia in Mohali court, and the court sent him to a 7-day police remand. In a joint action by the SIT and Punjab vigilance department against Majithia, raids were conducted at several of his hideouts in Chandigarh-Delhi. Later, the court sent Majithia to judicial custody. Tamil Nadu Pastor Who Used Home Church As Cover To Sexually Abuse Minor Schoolgirls Held

Last Updated: Victor Kamaraj, a 54-year-old preacher, was arrested for sexually assaulting over ten female students in Thiruvallur. Evidence from his phone led to his arrest under the POCSO Act In a disturbing development, a 54-year-old self-proclaimed religious preacher, identified as Victor Kamaraj, has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting over ten female students near Sengunram in Tamil Nadu's Thiruvallur district. The arrest comes amidst a troubling increase in sexual assault incidents reported in the region. Kamaraj, who operated a church from his home, reportedly took advantage of a tuition program run by his wife, an Anganwadi centre employee. It was during these evening classes for schoolgirls that the alleged assaults occurred. Parents of the victims filed a complaint, prompting a police investigation. Sources indicate that a crucial piece of evidence emerged from Kamaraj's cell phone, which reportedly contained information confirming the sexual harassment of the students. Following this discovery, police swiftly arrested Kamaraj under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. He was subsequently produced in court and is currently lodged in Puzhal jail. This arrest is the latest in a series of alarming incidents of sexual assault in the Thiruvallur area. Just recently, an Assamese youth was apprehended in a separate case involving the kidnapping and sexual assault of a girl in a neighbouring village. Adding to these concerns, another harrowing incident unfolded mere days later in the Kanakamma Chathiram area, where expansion work for the Chennai-Tirupathi National Highway is underway. A 17-year-old girl walking by was allegedly abducted and subjected to an attempted rape by a young man, reportedly working on the highway project. Her screams alerted local villagers, who bravely intervened. The assailant attempted to flee but was chased down, apprehended by the villagers, and then handed over to the police. HC upholds charges against suspended Delhi govt official Khakha

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court has reportedly refused to quash the charges framed against suspended Delhi government official Premoday Khakha, who allegedly raped a minor girl several times. The High Court also upheld the charges of causing the minor girl's miscarriage and the disappearance of evidence framed against the official's wife, Seema Rani. It further refused to set aside the charge against his two children and wife under Section 21 of the POCSO Act for failure to report the offence despite having knowledge. 'This court is of the considered opinion that there is no perversity or legal infirmity in the order passed by the sessions court framing charges against petitioner Premoday Khakha for offences under Sections 376(2)(f), 376(3), 323, and 354 of the IPC, and Sections 6 and 8 of the POCSO Act,' Justice Swarana Kana Sharma said in the judgment passed on July 15 and made available on July 28.
