Oman, UK review bilateral relations
The Omani side was headed by Shaikh Khalifa bin Ali al Harthy, Under-Secretary of the Foreign Ministry for Political Affairs, while the British side was headed by Hamish Falconer, Minister of State for the Middle East.
During the meeting, the two sides reviewed aspects of bilateral relations and explored means of boosting them to achieve desired objectives.
Both sides discussed areas of joint cooperation in the cultural, tourism, educational, vocational training, environmental and renewable energy fields. They also exchanged views on regional and international developments.
The meeting was attended by Munthir bin Mahfoudh al Manthiri, Head of the Europe Department at the Foreign Ministry, Abdullah bin Hamad al Riyami, Head of the Cultural Cooperation Department at the Foreign Ministry, Dr Liane Saunders, Ambassador of the United Kingdom to the Sultanate of Oman and several representatives of concerned government units. — ONA

MUSCAT: The Oman REFCO Esports Championship concluded on August 1, bringing together over 400 participants in the largest esports event of its kind in Oman. The championship featured competitions in FIFA 25, Tekken and Assetto Corsa, with each category drawing large crowds, fierce competition and enthusiastic support. Beyond the games, the participants engaged in motivational workshops designed to deepen their understanding of the global esports industry, potential career paths and digital entrepreneurship. OIA discusses investment cooperation in Mongolia
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia – Abdulsalam al Murshidi, President of Oman Investment Authority (OIA), met Gombojav Zandanshatar, Prime Minister of Mongolia, in Ulaanbaatar on Monday to discuss avenues of bilateral cooperation in investment and economic sectors. Zandanshatar welcomed strengthening ties with Oman, expressing his government's interest in building a partnership based on mutual benefits. He highlighted Mongolia's openness to facilitating investment opportunities in key priority sectors. Murshidi emphasised the importance of advancing bilateral cooperation, particularly in investment and other fields of shared interest. The Omani delegation held a series of official meetings with several senior Mongolian officials, including Gongor Damdinnyam, Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources; Idesh Batkhuu, Secretary-General of Ministry of Economy and Development; Bataa Ganbold, Advisor and Head of Office of Deputy Prime Minister; V Enkhbaatar, Director General of Investment and Trade Agency; and Munkhtur Togooch, Advisor to Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industries. Discussions centred on identifying opportunities in mining, energy, agriculture and food production. The meetings also explored ways to boost trade exchange, establish joint projects and create a supportive environment for long-term investment. Both sides committed to intensifying technical dialogue in the coming phase, with the aim of laying the groundwork for executive frameworks to guide bilateral cooperation. Oman Air plans city check-in service to drop off luggage before travel
Muscat: Imagine arriving at Muscat International Airport relaxed, knowing your luggage has already been checked in with Oman Air. No more last-minute bag counts or long airport queues. Oman's national carrier is planning to introduce its first-ever city check-in centre in Muscat, allowing passengers to drop off their bags and check in ahead of their flight. The new service would enable travellers to skip airport check-in lines and head straight to immigration, streamlining the pre-flight process. Speaking to Times of Oman, CEO of Oman Air, Con Korfiatis, said, 'We are actually looking to trial that, to see how it goes. We are not sure whether it will work here because it doesn't work everywhere. Some of the city offices tend to work where people travel long distances to the airport. And people may want to take trains and not be carrying five big luggages on trains. We don't really have a lot of that dynamic here. It's a small city. But having said that, we haven't decided finally, but we are looking to trial it and see how it goes. And if it works and there's big demand for it, then we can invest more in it.' He also said, 'We will give it a shot and see what it looks like.' When asked about the timeline of introduction of this service, he said, 'Hopefully before the end of the year.' Recently, Oman Air has introduced a convenient city check-in service for its guests traveling from Salalah, aimed at easing travel during the busy khareef season. Launched in partnership with Transom Handling, the 'Maraheb' service allows passengers to complete travel procedures ahead of time at Salalah Gardens Mall, avoiding airport queues and ensuring a smoother, more relaxed travel experience. This initiative reflects Oman Air's commitment to enhancing guest comfort and operational efficiency, particularly during the khareef season when travel demand to and from Salalah peaks.
