Turkey, Egypt Collaborate on Gaza Aid Initiative
By Ahmad El-Assasy
Turkey is diligently preparing its humanitarian aid in the Egyptian city of El-Arish, anticipating the resumption of assistance entry into Gaza, highlighted during a recent visit by the Turkish Ambassador to Cairo, Salih Mutlu Şen. Ambassador Şen inspected preparations at Sheikh Zuweid Hospital and the El-Arish port, demonstrating Turkey's commitment to aiding Gaza's recovery and reconstruction.
In a Ramadan iftar speech at the National Exhibition Hall in the Presidential Complex in Ankara, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced that Turkey had mobilized all its resources to stop bloodshed and had sent approximately 100,000 tons of humanitarian aid to Gaza. This announcement underlines Turkey's ongoing commitment to Gaza amidst recent conflicts.
Ambassador Şen's visit to El-Arish, a key logistical base for aid efforts, included inspecting Turkish relief materials and meeting with port authorities and local hospital staff. The Sheikh Zuweid Hospital, located close to the Rafah border, plays a critical role in treating patients from Gaza, equipped with top-notch facilities for kidney dialysis among other services.
Ambassador Şen distributed Eid gifts and expressed his wishes for a speedy recovery to the Egyptian patients undergoing treatment at the hospital's dialysis center. He emphasized the importance of kidney dialysis and transplantation, given his personal connections to kidney disease, thus supporting the Turkish Organ Transplant Foundation's close cooperation with Egypt.
In discussions with Sheikh Zuweid Hospital's chief physician, the ambassador learned about the services provided to Gaza's patients and inspected a field hospital established by the Egyptian Army with financial contributions from Turkey, dedicated solely to Gaza's patients.
Moreover, Ambassador Şen reviewed other medical and logistical supplies, including generators and ambulances, stored in regional warehouses ready to be dispatched to Gaza. He expressed gratitude to the North Sinai Governorate, the Egyptian Red Crescent, and the El-Arish port authorities for their support.
During his visit, Ambassador Şen was accompanied by officials from Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority and the Turkish Red Crescent, signifying a robust Turkish-Egyptian collaboration in addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Sponsored by Egypt Armed Forces.. genome study on rare kidney disease makes headlines
In a significant milestone for the advancement of diagnostic and precision medicine, and genome research, a study sponsored by the Egyptian Armed Forces Medical Research and Regenerative Medicine Centre was published in Human Genetics, one of the world's leading genetics journals, published by Springer International. The study, which is the first comprehensive Egyptian research in the field of genomics, focuses on a rare kidney disease that can lead to kidney failure. According to the Armed Forces spokesperson, this is a landmark scientific breakthrough. This pioneering research, he said, is the first of its kind in Egypt, and the second globally, to sequence a complete human genome related to immune disorders. The study, which was conducted entirely in Egypt, was led by the Centre's scientific team in collaboration with Cairo University, using state-of-the-art biotechnology and artificial intelligence tools. The Medical Research and Regenerative Medicine Center affiliated to the Armed forces has spearheaded the Egyptian and Ancient Egyptian Reference Genome Project, an ambitious national and regional initiative that reflects Egypt's growing leadership in this critical scientific field. Worth noting is that the Centre is home to Egypt's most advanced genome laboratory, and houses the largest automated biobank in Egypt and Africa—placing it among the world's foremost institutions in genomic medicine. These achievements have led to the publication of numerous studies in prestigious scientific journals, underscoring the scale and impact of Egypt's evolving research infrastructure. Statue for Sir Magdi Yacoub
'I love Egypt and I love my work. I also love art and culture. I believe that medicine and culture are what give value to life.' The words were said by world renown Egyptian British heart surgeon Sir Magdi Yacoub during a celebration held in Cairo in his honour by the Ministry of Culture. Hosted at the Small Theatre of the Cairo Opera House, the event was held to commemorate Sir Magdi's humanitarian and scientific career, and announce the details of a project for a statue of him. The celebration was attended by Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population; Ahmed Fouad Hano, Minister of Culture; Adel al-Naggar, Governor of Giza; sculptor Essam Darwish, the statue's designer; high ranking officials from the Ministry of Culture; and a host of public figures and national icons. 'I am grateful to my beloved country, Egypt, and to everyone who contributed to this project, which I see not only as a tribute to me personally, but also as a recognition of the value of science and humanitarian work in general,' Sir Magdi said, showing his deep appreciation for this national recognition. He then elaborated on the significance of culture to the growth of peoples. 'The civilisation and growth of peoples depend primarily on culture, which includes honouring community service, science and scientific research, as well as art, because science and health are incomplete without art. Culture, with all its elements, is what gives life its true meaning.' He stressed his deep belief in the value of culture and the arts as pillars of human development, just as science and health are foundations for advancing societies. Sir Magdi said he hoped that this honour would work as a source of inspiration for every young Egyptian who aspires to leave a mark, serving humanity. For his part, Minister of Culture Dr Hano talked about what he saw as God's greatest blessings to Egypt which is 'the men who have devoted their lives to serving humanity, not only with their knowledge, but also with their hearts, and with the hope they have instilled in the lives of others. Foremost among them is Sir Magdi Yacoub, a devoted son of Egypt, who was not just a gifted physician and world-class surgeon, but a humane person in every sense of the word. He believed that medicine is not just a profession, but a message of mercy and love, and that healing comes not from knowledge alone, but also from the heart. 'We are happy to announce the project to build a statue that embodies this inspiring journey, to serve as a symbol of the values embodied by the 'King of Hearts', [a title that Egyptians have fondly bestowed on Sir Magdi] and a renewed message of inspiration for generations.' The statue of Sir Magdi has been designed by Egyptian sculptor Essam Darwish; it is part of a broader project sponsored by the Ministry of Culture to honour Egyptian icons who left a profound impact on people's hearts and contributed to building the nation. 'Young people need true role models to inspire them and guide them towards the values upon which nations are built,' the Minister of Culture stressed. 'We are thus keen to embody these figures in our cultural arenas and institutions, so that they remain present in society's memory and a living witness to what dedication and hard work can achieve.' Dr Hano concluded by extending his gratitude and appreciation to Dr Abdel-Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population; Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development; Dr Naggar, Governor of Giza, for their sincere support and cooperation in bringing this project to fruition. He also specifically thanked Sir Magdi Yacoub for the knowledge and good he has provided—and continues to provide—to the people. Dr Abdel-Ghaffar, said that Sir Magdi is a global Egyptian figure and a symbol of dedication and humanity. The projects and services he provides, especially in southern Egypt, reflect a true love for his country and its people. He also makes great efforts to support and train young doctors, ensuring the continuation of his noble career, Dr Abdel-Ghaffar said. Mohamed Abu Saada, Chairman of the National Organisation of Urban Harmony reviewed the project's details, the statue's location, and its symbolic significance. He explained that the statue will stand in Kit Kat Square in the populous Giza district of Imbaba, near the Heart [cardiac] Institute busted by thousands of patients daily, giving the statue a symbolic significance linked to Sir Magdi's life work. Artist and sculptor Essam Darwish, beaming with pride, explained that the statue will be made of bronze, 6 meters tall, and will stand on an 8-meter-high pedestal. It is expected to be completed in eight months. According to Dr Naggar, Giza Governor, the Ministry of Culture will assume the technical aspect and provide full supervision of the implementation of the statue, while the governorate of Giza will provide the necessary funding and prepare the site to host the artwork. He said the governorate planned to implement, in cooperation with the National Authority for Urban Harmony, a comprehensive development project in the area, including upgraded sidewalks, vegetation, and traffic routes. A few days ago, on 18 June, the city of Aswan which is home to the famous Magdi Yacoub Heart Center, presented Sir Magdi with the key of Aswan, in recognition of his outstanding medical and humanitarian contributions. Egypt Delivers Medical Aid to Gabonese Ministry of Health in Support of Bilateral Health Cooperation
Taarek Refaat In a renewed gesture of African solidarity and health diplomacy, Egypt's Ambassador to Gabon, Reham Hussein Ammar, officially handed over a consignment of Egyptian medical aid to Gabon's Minister of Health, as part of Cairo's ongoing support for the Egypt-Gabon Joint Hospital in the capital, Libreville. The aid package, which includes essential pharmaceuticals, was provided by the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD) — an initiative under Egypt's Ministry of Foreign Affairs aimed at strengthening cooperation with African nations through development-focused support. Speaking during the handover ceremony, the Gabonese Minister of Health expressed deep gratitude to the Egyptian government and people for their continued commitment to improving public health services in Gabon. The Minister highlighted Egypt's role not only in providing medical supplies but also in offering scholarships and professional training programs across several sectors, which he described as critical to Gabon's human capacity development. He also voiced hope for the swift arrival of additional Egyptian doctors to serve at the Egypt-Gabon hospital, and expressed interest in expanded future cooperation, saying the medical aid is 'a promising sign of deeper engagement.' In her remarks, Ambassador Ammar reaffirmed Egypt's strategic vision for reinforcing ties with African nations, particularly in vital sectors like health. She emphasized that the donation symbolizes Egypt's 'long-standing commitment to revitalizing African partnerships, with health care as a cornerstone of that mission.' 'The Government of Egypt attaches great importance to sharing its pharmaceutical capabilities and medical expertise with sisterly African nations, including the Gabonese Republic,' she said. The Egypt-Gabon Joint Hospital, established in 2009 in Libreville, stands as one of Egypt's flagship development projects in Central Africa. Staffed by Egyptian medical professionals and equipped with Egyptian-supplied technologies, the hospital treats thousands of patients annually and has become a regional hub for multi-specialty care, attracting patients from across Gabon and neighboring provinces. Egyptian officials say the hospital exemplifies African-led cooperation and sustainable development, aligning with broader continental goals under the African Union's Agenda 2063. This latest shipment of medical supplies reflects Egypt's intent to scale up its presence and positive impact in Africa through practical, people-centered initiatives — particularly in health care, where access and equity remain key challenges across the continent. read more CBE: Deposits in Local Currency Hit EGP 5.25 Trillion Morocco Plans to Spend $1 Billion to Mitigate Drought Effect Gov't Approves Final Version of State Ownership Policy Document Egypt's Economy Expected to Grow 5% by the end of 2022/23- Minister Qatar Agrees to Supply Germany with LNG for 15 Years Business Oil Prices Descend amid Anticipation of Additional US Strategic Petroleum Reserves Business Suez Canal Records $704 Million, Historically Highest Monthly Revenue Business Egypt's Stock Exchange Earns EGP 4.9 Billion on Tuesday Business Wheat delivery season commences on April 15 News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean
