Four found scaling garbage heaps to trespass Shree Jagannath temple in Puri, inquiry ordered
SJTA chief administrator has formed a committee headed by the administrator to inquire into the matter, Puri District Collector Chanchal Rana told reporters after a video of four people scaling the garbage heap near the 'Meghnada Pacheri' went viral in social media.
PTI could not independently verify the authenticity of the video.
"Admitting that there was a lapse", Rana said that the committee will probe into the alleged breach of security. "Trespassers are being identified and accountability will be fixed in this incident. Subsequent action will also be taken," the collector said.
Stating that the district administration has taken the matter "seriously", the collector said that the CCTV footage will be verified and the persons involved in such activities to be identified.
It was seen in the video that four unidentified men gained unauthorized access into the shrine by scaling the outer perimeter wall, using a large pile of garbage accumulated near the wall as support.
The incident took place on Tuesday despite elaborate security arrangements in place during and after the annual Rath Yatra and Niladri Bije rituals.
Biswanath Khuntia, a servitor said that he has witnessed many people scaling the garbage heap and entering into the temple premises. "The number of people illegally entering into the temples is not four, it should be hundreds," Khuntia said.
The devotees expressed concern over the incident and raised questions on the utility of the AI-enabled cameras for the security of the 12th-century shrine, which is under the scanner of mischief mongers.
In the post-Pahalgam terror attack, the intelligence agencies had warned the Odisha Police regarding the Puri temple remaining on the radar of terrorist outfits, an official said.
Former member of the Temple Managing Committee and renowned sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik said: "It is surprising that despite the huge deployment of security forces during Rath Yatra, no one spotted them climbing the wall and entering the premises. This is a clear case of lapse on the part of the security agencies."

Odisha official booked for cruelty towards wife, newborn
Agency: PTI Bhubaneswar, Jul 31 (PTI) An Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) officer was booked for allegedly subjecting his wife to neglect, torture and mental harassment, police said on Thursday. The OAS officer has been booked under Section 85 (cruelty), 351 (2) (criminal intimidation) and 3(5) (criminal act by several persons with common intention) of BNS, the police said. Based on a written complaint of the wife, who is an engineer in the state government, the police also booked the OAS officer under the Dowry Prohibition Act. As per the complaint, the woman got married to the officer on February 21 last year, and the couple was blessed with a baby boy on May 7 this year. The officer allegedly abandoned his wife and the newborn at the hospital just four days after the birth of the child, the complaint stated, adding she has been staying at her father's house since then. 'He (husband) was at the hospital for three days after my delivery. However, he abandoned me and my child in the hospital on May 10 without any information. Since then, he has not met me or enquired about the child's health condition," she told reporters near Mahila police station here on Thursday. She further alleged that her husband also did not answer her phone calls and text messages. 'We, both mother and child, were subjected to cruelty. I hope that justice will be provided to us," she said. The woman alleged that her husband abandoned them at the instruction of his mother and sister. 'I have tried several times to resolve the matter, but he did not cooperate," the woman said, adding that she had to take the support of the law to give justice to the newborn baby. The officer concerned, however, refused to comment on the allegations. PTI AAM AAM ACD view comments First Published: July 31, 2025, 20:45 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Kejriwal lauds 'honest' AAP regime, says previous governments 'ruined' Punjab
Arvind Kejriwal (PTI image) Accusing the previous governments of "ruining" Punjab, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday said an "honest" regime led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is on the contrary working for the welfare of people. He lauded his party's government for acting tough against drug smugglers and bringing an "education revolution" in the state. Kejriwal was addressing a gathering on the occasion of the martyrdom day of legendary freedom fighter Udham Singh. The AAP chief earlier along with Mann paid tributes at the Shaheed Udham Singh memorial here. Kejriwal also blamed the previous governments for the problem of drug menace in the state. Taking potshots at the Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and BJP, he alleged, "The way their (previous) governments destroyed Punjab, government schools and hospitals, there was corruption everywhere, they looted money." "Punjab's situation has started improving in the last three years," said Kejriwal while referring to the AAP government's tenure in the state. On the state government's anti-drug drive, Kejriwal said the drug smugglers are being arrested and put behind bars. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Brother Donates Kidney To Save Sister's Life. One Year Later, He Says, I Wish I Never Did It, When This Happens Daily Sport X Undo The backbone of drug supply networks has been broken and the manner in which this anti-drug campaign has been launched finds no parallel in contemporary Indian history, he added. Without naming anyone, the AAP chief said the most notorious and feared drug lord has been put behind bars by the state government. Kejriwal further said exemplary action will be taken against such people, who ruined the future of our coming generations, adding none of them will be spared for such heinous crimes. The former Delhi chief minister said Punjab has seen "revolutionary" changes in every sector under the AAP regime. "Today, an education revolution is going on in Punjab. Good results (of government schools) are coming. The children of poor families are now joining IITs and they are becoming engineers, doctors and advocates. People of Punjab never expected such a government," he added. Asserting canal water is now reaching the tail end of villages, the AAP national convener said, "During previous governments, farmers had to wake up in the night to switch on their motors (to irrigate their crops)." "But today, farmers are getting eight hours of electricity supply during the day time and it is happening for the first time," he added. Kejriwal said the work on construction of 20,000 km of rural roads in the state will start from September. Escalating his attack on the previous governments, Kejriwal said that they used to claim lack of funds for carrying out development works. "We never said there are no funds. It is the same money, same budget, same officers but those who run the governments have changed. It is the AAP government, which is an honest government. We are doing all your works," he added. Addressing the gathering after laying the foundation stone of projects worth around Rs 85 crore to give facelift to Shaheed Udham Singh Wala town, the AAP leader said that the legendary freedom fighter made a supreme sacrifice for the sake of the country's freedom. India's freedom struggle saw countless sacrifices for the sake of the country to carve out an egalitarian society to ensure welfare of the weaker and underprivileged sections, he added. Kejriwal, however, said it is unfortunate that even after 75 years of freedom none of their aspirations have been fulfilled as those in power misused their authority to plunder wealth. Speaking at the event, Mann said it is the state government's duty to pay tributes to such legendary martyrs, who laid down their lives for the sake of the country. The chief minister said that naming airports, universities and other institutions in the name of these iconic martyrs is important to perpetuate their glorious legacy. Mann said the AAP is making tireless efforts to realize the dreams of the legendary martyrs, adding it is a matter of immense pride and satisfaction that this government is making concerted efforts in this regard. The state government has been making efforts to ensure comprehensive development of the state and prosperity of its people, he added. The chief minister also spoke about the 'Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna', which will provide cashless medical treatment up to Rs 10 lakh for every resident family in Punjab. Punjab is the first state in the country to offer such comprehensive healthcare coverage, which will significantly ease the financial burden on the public while ensuring quality health services. He said that 55,000 government jobs have been given so far to the state's youth, Aam Aadmi clinics have been opened to impart quality health services to people, schools have been renovated across the state and canal water is reaching the tail end to benefit farmers.

Who is Rinku Singh Rahi? SDM who performed sit-ups in front of UP lawyers transferred
Two days after a video emerged on social media showing an IAS officer doing sit-ups in front of lawyers in Puwaiyan tehsil of Shahjahanpur district in Uttar Pradesh, the state government on Thursday transferred the officer to the Revenue Council in Lucknow. The act performed by 2022-batch IAS officer Rinku Singh Rahi was seen as a violation of the All India Services Conduct Rules as well as 'unbecoming of an officer - an inappropriate act that was not in accordance with the post', said a report by Hindustan Times quoting a senior UP government officer. Shahjahanpur District Magistrate Dharmendra Pratap Singh told PTI that Rahi, who was posted to Puwaiyan tehsil only on Tuesday, has now been relieved of the post. Rinku Singh Rahi took charge as Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Powayan tehsil in Shahjahanpur on July 28. The next day, during an inspection of the tehsil premises, Rahi noticed garbage strewn across the compound, filthy toilets, and a clerk of an advocate urinating in the open. Furious over this, the SDM made the clerk perform sit-ups on the spot as punishment, a move that irked lawyers. After the incident, lawyers staged a protest near the tehsil office against Rahi's actions. Later, during an interaction, the lawyers expressed their grievances about the appalling condition of toilets and the lack of proper sanitation facilities. While acknowledging their concerns, the SDM publicly admitted the lack of cleanliness at Puwaiyan tehsil premises and performed five sit-ups holding his ears in front of the lawyers. According to the HT report, Rahi confirmed his transfer and said: 'Maintaining sanitation is not directly the SDM's responsibility. It was only my first day after joining. I wanted to send a message to the society that when something goes wrong, an officer must show accountability. Transfer is part of the system. I will serve with full commitment wherever the government sends me.' He told PTI that the idea was to encourage better public behaviour. "When I saw people urinating near the toilets, I asked them to use the facilities. When they refused, I made them do sit-ups. Similarly, I saw some school children wandering the premises, and their parents were made to do sit-ups as a deterrent," Rahi said.
