Four found scaling garbage heaps to trespass Shree Jagannath temple in Puri, inquiry ordered
SJTA chief administrator has formed a committee headed by the administrator to inquire into the matter, Puri District Collector Chanchal Rana told reporters after a video of four people scaling the garbage heap near the 'Meghnada Pacheri' went viral in social media.
PTI could not independently verify the authenticity of the video.
"Admitting that there was a lapse", Rana said that the committee will probe into the alleged breach of security. "Trespassers are being identified and accountability will be fixed in this incident. Subsequent action will also be taken," the collector said.
Stating that the district administration has taken the matter "seriously", the collector said that the CCTV footage will be verified and the persons involved in such activities to be identified.
It was seen in the video that four unidentified men gained unauthorized access into the shrine by scaling the outer perimeter wall, using a large pile of garbage accumulated near the wall as support.
The incident took place on Tuesday despite elaborate security arrangements in place during and after the annual Rath Yatra and Niladri Bije rituals.
Biswanath Khuntia, a servitor said that he has witnessed many people scaling the garbage heap and entering into the temple premises. "The number of people illegally entering into the temples is not four, it should be hundreds," Khuntia said.
The devotees expressed concern over the incident and raised questions on the utility of the AI-enabled cameras for the security of the 12th-century shrine, which is under the scanner of mischief mongers.
In the post-Pahalgam terror attack, the intelligence agencies had warned the Odisha Police regarding the Puri temple remaining on the radar of terrorist outfits, an official said.
Former member of the Temple Managing Committee and renowned sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik said: "It is surprising that despite the huge deployment of security forces during Rath Yatra, no one spotted them climbing the wall and entering the premises. This is a clear case of lapse on the part of the security agencies."

Odisha official booked for cruelty towards wife, newborn
Agency: PTI Bhubaneswar, Jul 31 (PTI) An Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) officer was booked for allegedly subjecting his wife to neglect, torture and mental harassment, police said on Thursday. The OAS officer has been booked under Section 85 (cruelty), 351 (2) (criminal intimidation) and 3(5) (criminal act by several persons with common intention) of BNS, the police said. Based on a written complaint of the wife, who is an engineer in the state government, the police also booked the OAS officer under the Dowry Prohibition Act. As per the complaint, the woman got married to the officer on February 21 last year, and the couple was blessed with a baby boy on May 7 this year. The officer allegedly abandoned his wife and the newborn at the hospital just four days after the birth of the child, the complaint stated, adding she has been staying at her father's house since then. 'He (husband) was at the hospital for three days after my delivery. However, he abandoned me and my child in the hospital on May 10 without any information. Since then, he has not met me or enquired about the child's health condition," she told reporters near Mahila police station here on Thursday. She further alleged that her husband also did not answer her phone calls and text messages. 'We, both mother and child, were subjected to cruelty. I hope that justice will be provided to us," she said. The woman alleged that her husband abandoned them at the instruction of his mother and sister. 'I have tried several times to resolve the matter, but he did not cooperate," the woman said, adding that she had to take the support of the law to give justice to the newborn baby. Two days after a video emerged on social media showing an IAS officer doing sit-ups in front of lawyers in Puwaiyan tehsil of Shahjahanpur district in Uttar Pradesh, the state government on Thursday transferred the officer to the Revenue Council in Lucknow. The act performed by 2022-batch IAS officer Rinku Singh Rahi was seen as a violation of the All India Services Conduct Rules as well as 'unbecoming of an officer - an inappropriate act that was not in accordance with the post', said a report by Hindustan Times quoting a senior UP government officer. Shahjahanpur District Magistrate Dharmendra Pratap Singh told PTI that Rahi, who was posted to Puwaiyan tehsil only on Tuesday, has now been relieved of the post. Rinku Singh Rahi took charge as Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Powayan tehsil in Shahjahanpur on July 28. The next day, during an inspection of the tehsil premises, Rahi noticed garbage strewn across the compound, filthy toilets, and a clerk of an advocate urinating in the open. Furious over this, the SDM made the clerk perform sit-ups on the spot as punishment, a move that irked lawyers. After the incident, lawyers staged a protest near the tehsil office against Rahi's actions. Later, during an interaction, the lawyers expressed their grievances about the appalling condition of toilets and the lack of proper sanitation facilities. While acknowledging their concerns, the SDM publicly admitted the lack of cleanliness at Puwaiyan tehsil premises and performed five sit-ups holding his ears in front of the lawyers. According to the HT report, Rahi confirmed his transfer and said: 'Maintaining sanitation is not directly the SDM's responsibility. It was only my first day after joining. I wanted to send a message to the society that when something goes wrong, an officer must show accountability. Transfer is part of the system. I will serve with full commitment wherever the government sends me.' He told PTI that the idea was to encourage better public behaviour. "When I saw people urinating near the toilets, I asked them to use the facilities. When they refused, I made them do sit-ups. Similarly, I saw some school children wandering the premises, and their parents were made to do sit-ups as a deterrent," Rahi said.
